Not particularly relevant to anything, but I ran across this article and thought some might find it of interest.

A Saturn got the same treatment, right in front of my house, about two weeks ago and today is the opening day for firearm deer season in Michigan. Just have to watch for the giant rats, constantly, and remember... worrying is like paying interest on a debt you may never owe.

I found it interesting that the aluminum hood came out unscathed!

One advantage for us is that we can swerve a little wider than most cars on the road without going out of control.

Hit two large dogs in my firebird once.
A women was parked in the other lane, saying "SHOOO", and blocking the only way I could avoid them...
They both ran away yelping, and this b!@#$ starts yelling at me!!!! By the time I get done with her, she is weeping "its all my fault"....never did find the dogs...car smelled like dog for weeks.

I was in the car as a little kid when my mom hit a friggin bull (black bull, nightime highway) in a 1978 Licoln continental (I think) station wagon.

Lemme tell ya, my skinny little ass flew from the cargo area in the back (had 2 little foldup seats in the middle) to the front seat. Broke my arm while doing it too. Entire front end of the car was smashed in, although amazingly the engine actually ran after that for another 2 miles (just enough to get to a gas station). Not much left of the bull intact either. Car was a totaled. We just abandoned it after taking off the tags since it woudla cost more to get it back home than the rear end woulda been worth at the junker.

After that if I even see a hint of an animal on the side of the road I slow down. Had an almost hit with a friggin horse one time, but sicne I am all paranoid of animals now I actually avoided that one.

Never hit an animal myself since I've been driving (well, except for something like 15 pigeons, but the dumb %^(*& wont get out of the frigging way!)

if a damn dear ran at me and made me kill it that peice of shit would be hanging in my garage getting skinned and ready to be eaten by me and a few friends that night.

I don't know, some of the moose I've seen around here are tall enough that the RX-8 might just be able to pass right under it...Provided that you aim between the front and hind legs of course. ;)

deer suck... i've heard stories of their "meatball on toothpicks" build causing some incredible injuries to people driving trucks through logging roads (my dad's a geologist, used to have to do a lot of surveying in the bush)

You really need to be real careful at dawn, dusk and nightime in deer habitat (swampy and grassy/mixed woodland areas are a major area where they reside).

For some reason, 2:00pm on Easter Sunday when it's clear and sunny, and you're surrounded by hills and open farmland also attracts them.

yup...I hit a cow...a friggin COW...In college back in 1996. My girlfriend at the time was visiting and her car broke down...so being here in Auburn, AL..you know COW COUNTRY...we were supposed to meet her father half way to Anniston in Roanoke about 40 miles north of Auburn...add snowing...add about 22 degree temp, add some drizzle just to make things more worse...and then 10:30pm at night...ok...some of you may know from previous posts of mine, my Integra was tuned and I did race it legally...92 GSR with a 96 GSR engine swap, ported and TD05 added along with 45 NOS shot + blahblah irrelevance...anyway, not 15 minutes outside Auburn on the rural country ass Hwy 431 couldn't see shit out and decided we should call her dad and say we will have to meet tomorrow cause weather was getting worse...i slowed to 35 to turn around in the next drive way and then all off a sudden BAM!...GD F&%^#@* BLACK COW in the middle of the road rolls over the damn hood into the windshield!!!

The front roof line of course caved in , girlfriend is shitting her pants it's F^&#*#$ raining in my car and snowing...water everywhere...COW jumps off the car walks around to my passenger door and KICKS THE FUC&ING! DOOR IN!!...runs off down the road and I cant find out who's it is...needless to say there were 3 different cow pasture owners around that area and of course neither admitted one of theirs getting out...so damage report....bye bye TD05 piping...crunched...anodized valve cover - scratched to hell and back...header was gone...midpipe crunch...engine mounts bent...and a partridge in a pear tree...anyway...MORAL: girlfriends piece of shit 76 Datsun 210 breaks down and she has class the next morning 90 minutes away...and forcast calls for mid teens and snow...STAY THE HELL AT HOME!

I'm sorry, I found some of these stories rather amusing. I hope all parties involved, other than the four-legged creatures that caused the disturbances, and the vehicles, are ok though.

I've had a couple close calls, but no major contact. Clipped a bambi in the hind quarters with my VW 412 wagon many years ago, (neither body in motion was deflected from its intended path) and once decided to slow down on the interstate in my mighty '91 Festiva to convince the nagging tailgating Escort to pass me. (yes, I was in the right lane)

Before I lost sight of his taillights ahead of me, I saw a large cloud of flying fur, and a deer flipping through the air. As I passed, the driver was just pulling off onto the shoulder, car dented and driver shaken, but ok.

Damn, I won't be amused if it ever happens to me!

I heard you can lose points on your driving test
if you stopped for a crossing dog or cat.

In my area, we have MILLIONS of squirrels running everywhere.
Freaking, they run right in front of your car
and then hesitate to look around at what's going on
like they can't decide whether to move 10 feet left or 10 feet to the right to avoid your car
and before you know it
dinner's on the road!
Almost everyday, I see a dead squirrel or two on the main road
and more in residential.
And for some good-luck reason, for four years I haven't ran over a single one yet.

Although there are huge dogs and coyotes running all over the Hwy 95...

You can never be too careful...

Many years ago, just married and no money, we borrowed my dad's Ford pickup/camper to go to Canada. On the way up, just outside Mt. Ranier at dusk I slammed into a doe. She was frozen in the lights just like they say, and I was frozen from driving non-stop for 12 hours that day. I looked in my side mirror and she was an x-deer. Next morning I got out to inspect the front of the truck - absolutely nothing. Nada. Not even a spec of fur. Good thing, too, because I didn't feel like explaining any dents to my dad when we got home. I don't think they make trucks like that anymore.
