As a lot of you know this year's RX7 will be the last (at least for the current generation) in Japan. I have heard they have a 2 seat and a 2X2 version.

I was wondering if anyone out there has the specifications (i.e. power, torque - curves would be even better, height, length, wheelbase, weight, trunk space) and photos on BOTH version of Japanese RX7?

Thanks!

The 2 seat & 2+2 specs are the same in the their respective trim levels. The FD was designed to be a 2+2 w/ a 2 seater option but in the North American market Mazda renforced the chassis to meet w/ crash testing guidlines and did not put the back seats in.

2002 Models are:
Spirit R Type A: WT=2800lb, 277HP@6500, 231Ftp@5000 5MT

So the body dimensions (i.e. length, width, wheelbase, etc.) were the same? Was the trunk smaller on the 2X2 version or was there sufficient space between the front seats and the trunk to place a back seat? Do you know the weights of the 2 models? I would assume the back seats would add approximately 70 lbs. Would have it been feasible (taking into account costs) to make the 2X2 design with US safety standards?

Yes the dimensions are the same. The Type B & C are the 2+2 models. The back seats are a direct fit replacment for the storage bins just like in the FC.

I believe the last unit off the line was built in early August 2002. There was a moment of rare silence on the RX7forum when FD owners contemplated what it really meant.

How much does the RX-7 cost?

new RX-7's earlier this year were somewhere around 3 million yen, and up...
check the Mazda japan website for more accurate numbers...

i dunno where you're from, but no matter, the real price is never a simple conversion of the numbers with the exchange rate (except by extreme fluke), so that number is good only as a very rough estimate...

i believe that Mazda only exported 7's to RHD countries after '95, and i don't know when they stopped shipping them out of Japan (if they ever did, or what...)

They stopped shipping them out of Japan when they made the major revision in '99.

Also, I got a DVD for X-mas that has footage of a Titanium Silver Spirit R driving around. Sweet merciful crap, that thing is sexy. Truly the ultimate RX-7.
