Just a quick question has anyone ever removed one of the screens on the mazda cold air intake system and if so did they have any problems?

the screens smooth out the airflow, right? Thus your Mass air flow sensor doesn't freak out...

I would keep the screens in...

^+1... plus I hear that removing a screen doesn't really gain much (not like the intake gains much anyway).

if you remove the screens the car wont run right.. itll kinds feel like you have a mis fire CEL comes on as well.. I removed my intake and when i re installed i left one of those screens unproperly places and the car was freaking out!

Leave them in.. You have 2 screens

I only put the screen closest to the maf in when I installed my MS CAI. Runs fine, idle fluctuates on occasion, but I never tried it with both so I don't know if that CAI makes it do that anyway.

what about the filter sock? is that to be used just to keep the filter clean when you are installing it? or are you suppose to leave it on?

Leave it on... this will help repel dirt and other stuff while driving.
It will also help with SMALL droplets of water... but don't think that you can spray a garden hose at it (like when you're cleaning your car). Your filter will collect the water and after time, the water thats collected will get so bad, when you turn and accelerate quickly, the water will rush up your intake pipe and into the engine (NOT GOOD).
I speak from personal experience. Thats why I just switched out my AEM for the Racing Beat Revi with the ram air duct.

Ok intake wise, im looking to upgrade. Racing Beat has a good intake so I hear, any suggestions would be cool.

Racing Beat is a good intake... especially with the ram air duct addition.
Only "issue" I have with the Racing beat (which I didn't know until I went to install it) is that it requires the use of stock components from the air box (like the grommets, hose clamps, bolt, spacer, and the accordion section).
I installed the AEM intake YEARS ago and couldn't find some of the stock pieces that was thrown in the closet, so that made the install take more than it should... trying to scrounge up everything.
