So we are sick of walking 1/4 mile to use the apartments crappy washers and dryers, and are shopping for something used but reliable. I'm looking on craigslist and I dont know where to start. Every set I see is either for like $600 or $150. Well hell for $600 I might as well go $100 more and get an entry level Whirlpool with a warranty. $150 would be nice but I don't want it breaking down on me in a month either. Help me guys I don't know crap about appliances. What am I looking for?

Now that you've decided, don't get in a big hurry to buy. Just check out ads around the complex etc. ---people are always upgrading to new without good reason and the old set is virtually worthless. Seen it a thousand times!

I found this. I looked at lowes and sears but they want 200.00 more for the same thing. I've worked with HHGregg when I bought my LG set....AWESOME customer service, respectful delivery personell and were in and out in 20 minutes!

They should have no problem fitting in a standard 8 foot ceiling space in an apartment as well.
Appliances are an investment, like a fridge or a car honestly. My old set was 15 years old, ran like a top w/ no problems, but my mom needed a set for my grandmother's house, so I bought new and donated the old ones.
cheap washers/dryers are easy to fix, anyone can take them apart and fix them. So buy a cheap set.....................

Cheap sets usualy last the longest. They don't have as much that can go wrong with them.
^ I would love one of those all-in-one washer/dryer. But not after they have been out longer, so most of the bugs have been worked out.

Avoid White-Westinghouse, and Fridgidaire. Go name brand.
Last time I shopped, Sears Kenmore topped the Consumer Report ratings, and they were not too pricey.
Oh, and our $299 base model Kenmore washer washes clothes just as good as the $999 LG chromey hi-tech washers with a bunch more bells and whistles.

Go to a Sears Outlet (scratch & dent). You get brand new stuff for a lot cheaper. I just bought my lawn tractor there..it is selling at the regular Sears stores for $1750, and I got it for $850. Brand new, never even had gas put in it. Great prices on the stuff they have there. That's where we got our fridge, too.

I'd say don't go cheap. Don't go expensive either, both imply that you are buying new. Check craigslist or the classifieds. It'll save a couple hundred bucks.
