i recently installed the sp2 exhaust, and im trying to fit the stock catback in my storage. im trying to separate the catback pipe from the cannisters, but no luck. it seems as though they are held together by a U shaped metal screw. i was able to take the U shaped screw off, but the pipes are still connected.
anyone succeed in separating this?
Thanks!

No, and I had only 5K on the exhaust. Had to saw it off. It rusts on real quick.

It's crimped after they're joined. They aren't meant to come apart unfortunately.

Metal saw and pair of gogles - works wonders.

I just recently did it by spraying WD40 into the joint and having a friend help twist and pull it off. It was on really tight but it did eventually separate.
Good luck!

Mazda specifically says never take it apart because it will never seal again per Mazmart's comments, if you do then a new pipe is required

i had to do the same thing when i installed my borla... i just took a plasma cutter and cut that off... which is always fun to do.

well cutting it defeats the purpose of separating them, since the main reason why im trying to fit it in my storage is to be able to use one day if i ever needed to.

Any shop can weld them back together.
