thanks 4 the comments all, suprised not many like the middle one, but that's ok. I've actually gotten alot of compliments about it. It looks super clean in person. The middle came from grilleguy.com. He sells them on ebay. You can get them powdercoated black if you want for an additional $7. It cost around $45 as is. The lowers came from rx8strakes.com. Don't remember the price...maybe around $30? You can also get the lower ones from grilleguy.com too but I didn't realize that until after I bought the lower ones. Oh and the rear grilles came from rx8strakes as well. The rotary one I fabricated myself with some extra mesh I had left over from cutting out the foglight openings.

Not to start trouble. Not to type this thinking I need to defend my opinion. The OP did ask for opinions..no? Well, my opinion was that "dark" looked better. I however, don't have my car stock.. Currently I have a MazdaSpeed Bodykit and Wing. Oh, and 18" Aftermarket Rims.... Yada, Yada, Yada... :)

You do have a valid point. Sometimes peoples opinions could be right down harsh. I'm not really about that. I can't stand the drama and you will notice, I stay away from it. Believe me, if I really like something, I'll be the first to comment. I rarely comment if it's something I don't like... The way I see it, if I have nothing positive to say, I won't say it at all.

Tonight, was one of those rare occasions.. ;)

If I painted them all black you woudn't be able to see them....I don't know. I'd have to see it on someone elses car first. The middle makes more sense to have painted black than the rest. What do I know tho...first time doing anything like this. Thanks again everyone for your opinions. I may go with some of your ideas!

I'd be concerned about airflow in the front. These grilles will definitely decrease the amount of air going through. If you took the license plate off, that doesn't matter because the area behind it is covered anyway.

Never really liked the "cheese grater" look myself, but some like bling so to each their own. One thing though, I'm a stickler for consistancy. The circle pattern in one and hexagon pattern in the others really throws it off.

I'd like to see a picture with the front center part in, from a further distance away. Say driveway parking distance away...what is that 10'-15' away.

In the back, I think it would look better without the grill inside of the rotor design, feels as if it takes away from the rotor.

yeah some like that and some don't...I'm planning on painting the rear lower bumper to match the car...not quite sure what to do with that rotary section yet. I thought it would match the front rotary mesh though, so I quickly fabricated it for the rear. As far as the pictures farther away....well I can't cuz I didn't take any pics of it before I took it off and I have to take the front bumper off to reinstall it. It did look better from farther away though.

No, not at all..lol

I know everyone has different taste, therefore you're going to get all sorts of opinions. What I gave you, was my personal opinion. There are lots of ppl that dig my car.. there are also others in this forum that don't quite dig yellow with black.. But hey, it's gotten me.. Car of the Month, 1st Place Rotary Category (including FC and FD), and I've been "invited" to showcase my car in this years HIN.

So, don't listen to anyone but yourself.

If you like it, that's all that matters. In the end, you're the one driving it..not US. ;)

But it's always good to get feedback.. that is why you posted it and asked what we thought, right? hee hee

05rex8
05-07-2008, 07:44 PM
^Yes i did want the feedback. I don't want the look of my car to be overkill. I want something that looks clean and sublte, not huge bodykits or anything. So I do appreciate the criticism as well because it brought me to this conclusion which I like better as well. :)

The big front center one is a little too much for my personal taste, but to each his own.

My first impression honestly was ............CLEAN THOSE FREAKING EXHUAST TIPS!!

Your dirty exhaust tips stand out like a sore thumb now that you have shiny new rear grills.

I'd also say get rid of the aftermarket exhaust tip add ons.......they scream "Aftermarket cheap add-on" and they are way too thin.

Otherwise......yeah, your car does look nice. I think silver is the only color that can really pull off using those silver grills.

^you have no idea what you're talking about. Thats the Agency Power exhaust. Not just aftermarket ricer tips. $700 for the full exhaust plus catless midpipe. They are Titanium and are supposed to look like that with the bluish purple. Also took out the middle grille if you cared to read the whole thread. Check this thread http://www.rx8club.com/showthread.php?t=146127

Ummmmmmmmm.....yes....thank you I did read the whole thread, I am aware he took the middle grill back out.

And like I said, the big front silver grill is a little much for my taste.

Just because I didn't say he did right by replacing it with the black, doesn't mean you should be jumping to assumptions, thank you.

And I don't know about you but if I spent $700 freaking dollars on some exhaust I would not photograph it looking grimey and almost rusty, particularly on the inside, I would have it clean and polished so that bluish/purple can be appreciated, and that the Titanium doesn't look like $6.99 alumininum from Auto Zone.

But that is just me.

Regardless, it doesn't take away from the fact that 05rex8 pulled it off, it looks nice.

I guess you showed me....anywho...I wasn't trying to get comments on the tips. In those particular pictures they happened to be *a little dirty*. After all having a full time job, wife, and kid doesn't exactly give me much time to go polishing my tips every chance I get. If you you heard the sound and saw that exhaust in person, I think the 700 bux is worth it, also since it CAME with the catless midpipe. There are a lot more expensive exhaust out there w/o a midpipe.

Don't want to argue, I'm not going to say anymore. No hard feelings. Thanks for the comments/suggestions. :beerchug:

Whoa......I replied not realizing you were the same one doing the grille work.

I didn't mean to be critical, I understand the time pressures, etc, I was just being honest that after all that time and effort you put into on the back end of your car, the first thing that caught my eye was the exhaust.

Other wise, like I said, good job, it looks great.
