I tried replacing my defective 6cd changer with a new one last night.
Here's where I get stuck?

First:
I pulled out the cd player and radio attached to each other.

Next:
I tried to unscrew the original cdplayer unit from the frame which looks attached to the radio player unit at the bottom.

Now should I detach the audio cable in the back first or is there be a better method?

Everything else was easy up to this point but now I'm lost what should I do next?

It's been years since i've done it.. but if i remember i used a little coin to kind of pry them apart and find a screw i had missed.. it's kinda tricky how they fit together.. but keep trying and you'll get it apart.. :)

and maybe next time you should post a picture of your problem.. not where you are 3 steps ago :)

Thanks anyways!

After that learning experience I said to hell with it and went to a car stereo & repair shop out in Patchogue, Long Island. The owner is named Martin a pretty cool dude and he had one of the techs. change my 6cd changer in 15 minutes for $81.00 bucks (tax included). I couldn't believe it! It takes me more time to use the bathroom jeez...!

By the looks of it it's a really nefty store. I mean he does everything from automatic starters for manuals, custom alarm systems, and more. Next I'm going back to have them install my corksport kit along with dice ipod link.

The car shop was located on:

709 Rt. 112
Patchogue, NY 11772

Uhhh...If you get a Corksport kit you don't get a DICE iPod Link. The DICE kit is for the factory radio. If you get a corksport kit you have to get the iPod adapter for that radio.

And any audio shop that would charge $81 for a 15 minute job should not be recommended. Nobody charges $300 an hour for labor. They saw you...listened to your story...and saw a sucker. I'm sorry dude...but you got ripped off...BIG TIME.

Or he's just trying to shamelessly plug the store he owns/works for. Either way, you definately got ripped off, sorry to say. :(

Ok first of all at a regular Mazda shop charged $190 just to change the damn cd changer. It's $80.00 freakin bucks if thats a bad deal than I would expect you to say I should've settled for the Mazda Shop instead and waited 2 hours...?

Hey where I live nothing is cheap...it's not like I can find somebody to make a cd changer swap for $20.00. I mean a diagnostic check alone from Mazda is $169.00 than they tell you to fix the problem....parts and labor is another $500.00 for something simple like power steering.

Personally...I would have hit up the Regional thread for your area. There are a TON of people in your area that could have helped you out and done it for free. Hell...Circuit City or Best Buy probably would have done it for under $50. Don't take it personally...just learn from it and move on.

Yea I agree with you on that...it's just that circuit city is just notorious for f****ing stuff up. Especially after reading some forums here in the past I wanted to build a relationship with Martin at the Crank in Stereo Shop instead. Thanks for the heads up!
