This is supposedly their 5W20

Has anyone ever used it or other synthetics?

Pros/Cons

I thought synthetic oil wasn't recommended for the RX-8? As far as I know you should use regular 5W-20 dino oil.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong on this, I don't know if there's actually a reason synthetic oil isn't reccomended for use in the 8.

Redline is good oil.
Give it a shot.
Don't believe the anti-synthetic hype.
Pros--Redline, enough said!
Cons--price, lack of newer API cert(?)--see owners manual

My opinion on API is low so I don't care for SL, SM.....
API, IMO, hangs out with CARB/CAFE......

Synthetics aren't recommended because of the way the rotary libricates the interior of the engine. Since it sprays a tiny bit of oil inside to lube up the rotors and such, if you use synthetic oil, it tends not to combust fully and builds up some crud on the inside of the engine, while natural oil combusts fully with the gas, so no buildup. Or so I've heard... ;)

The synthetic/dino oil topic has been raised 6-7 times since I've been coming to the forum, and there is basically no consensus. Some people swear by one or the other, some epople have horror stories about one or the other.

So use what you like and dont worry about.

I only see the redline 10W30 in their pdf that lists the API on their site.

Your engine requires api service SL , which is not listed in the other oils on redline's website. (Owner's manual, page 8-9 for api reference)

Check for that designation before purchasing and using.

ok, I watched the Mazda Technical Instruction for the mechanics for mazda and it said do not use synthetic. but hey...the oil guys say its ok! Try Royal Purple or AMSoil also and give us the results.

If you're engine goes, is the syn oil company going to offer to replace your engine? What is the big deal? Use what mazda wants you to use. Your car isn't going any faster with syn. No one but yourself will even know (or care) what's in your crankcase. But when youre engine blows, Mazda will!
