View Full Version : Mimo USA radiator sold by Mazsport?
Vasichko 05-01-2008, 11:27 AM I was looking on Mazsport's site and saw a Mimo USA radiator for just over $300.
Anyone tried this? Im wondering how it is compared to the Koyo?
http://www.mazsport.net/store/index.php?l=product_detail&p=137
tajabaho1 05-01-2008, 05:58 PM wow, didn't see it until now
300$????
Vasichko 05-01-2008, 06:36 PM Yeah from the pictures the quality of the welds look pretty nice.
I wonder what the dimensions are compared to the Koyo unit.
Maybe Scott will see this and chime in for us...
mysql 05-01-2008, 06:40 PM it says generic image, so the radiator pictured may not be what we get.
if the radiator has a cap on it, then that means we can get rid of our overflow reservoir? I'd love to chuck that ugly bottle out.
mysql 05-01-2008, 06:50 PM Charles, Why does the market only need one choice?
Vasichko 05-01-2008, 07:20 PM I am thinking of being the tester on this one.
nycgps 05-01-2008, 07:41 PM I made a thread in Mazsport area and asked Scott to come :)
tajabaho1 05-01-2008, 07:49 PM well its like 1/2 the price of Ray's
so I don't think its the same quality at all
and I really dont wanna try to test it out
radiator is like life and death for a car you know..........any cay overheating is definitly bad bad bad
and our shittyass temp gauge doesn't help
tajabaho1 05-01-2008, 07:51 PM I can't see it.......but then again I never do
I need spacers though :D
and I don't think thats even the pic of the real stuff on their website
nycgps 05-01-2008, 08:18 PM Dont Worry Ray, your Radiator is still on my *To get list* even I already have Koyo, Just waiting for my budget surplus to come .... hohohohohoho ~~~ no Im not talking about the check from Bush. :)
tajabaho1 05-01-2008, 11:54 PM well see Ray
Mimo can give a shit about us
you, on the other hand, are our ownage supplier of parts so that my car is still f'ing intact
tajabaho1 05-02-2008, 12:05 AM well anyone got 300$ + 5000$ to spare if someshit goes bad?
kersh4w 05-02-2008, 12:18 AM its the vernacular of our generation.

VarneyMazda 05-02-2008, 10:07 AM hmm i might be ordering this to try.
tajabaho1 05-02-2008, 10:49 AM idk, it looks no better than the Koyo Radiator
I still think Ray's is much larger, hence better cooling capacity?
nycgps 05-02-2008, 12:27 PM I was looking up the specs on the Koyo rad for the RX-8, at least as much as they are willing to publish, and I can now brag that the BHR rad is a whopping 1/16" thicker core than the Koyo.:lol2: Core thickness isn't the point, anyway.;)
oooo I know the answer I know the answer !!!!
Damn I have been watching too much Are you smarter than a 5th grader lately ...
Anyway, ITS THE AIRFLOW !!!!
Correct ?
VarneyMazda 05-02-2008, 12:50 PM Ray I'm going to check out hanks rad tommrow when I get back I may be in need of one

I saw rays Rad for the first time in person saturday LOOKED AWESOME SOOO SHINEY.
who cares if it cools or not
xsnipersgox 05-05-2008, 10:02 AM i wonder... why don't we just have a water spraying solution for our radiator? won't be hard to keep a water tank topped off. (or convert the stock windwhield wiper tank for it)
tajabaho1 05-05-2008, 10:26 AM what? who cares if the radiator does 0 cooling, the engine can just heat and die for all I care
as long as it's blingy
thats why I'm doing an aluminum-foilover to my radiator!

this thread is starting to really entertain!
Seriously, I am thinking i need to pay attention to whats going on here... this year will be my first summer in AZ with my 8!
tajabaho1 05-05-2008, 12:47 PM all the rotary people is movin to AZ! they all deserting us (literally) yo!
ps: since this thread has now lost it's purpose
Jedi54 05-05-2008, 12:59 PM so what's the 411 on this rad? Anyone tried it yet??
xsnipersgox 05-05-2008, 01:02 PM ?????
i know that some drifters have these custom made water nozzels attached to their radiators. They press a button and a mist of water will be applied to the radiator, which in turn induce massive cooling.
tajabaho1 05-05-2008, 01:08 PM you should try it Jedi
I'll have fire extinguishers rdy by your side
yale02 05-05-2008, 02:29 PM Yale, you have a STRONG contingent of not only RX-8, but Mazda, owners who will be glad to welcome you into the community. I am moving ther myself soon to open my own shop.
alright! Keep us posted...
I am certainly glad to be here and be more involved in the community.
cavemancan 05-05-2008, 02:50 PM Yep, but I wasn't quizzing anyone so don't expect fame and prizes.:lol2: If you look at the different offerings out there you'll see we all deal with airflow from different perspectives. Mine deals with it at the radiator, itself, while MM, Racing Beat, Mazsport, and maybe others too, all deal with it by turning on the fans sooner. The problem with turning on the fans sooner as an antidote is that those approaches don't improve upon the factory radiator's greatest weakness but only offer a "Band-Aid" solution, especially when in hotter climates or upping the heat potential of your engine. I can tell you that Pettit and MM both had heat issues with their Koyo rads and those issues went away when they swapped their factory rads back in. I may soon send Pettit a rad to play with as a professional courtesy, one vendor to another, but I need to update their fitment for the front-mount turbo kits before I do. Actually, now that I think about it I may have one they could have fun with right now............
You know, it's a good thing I actually read this forum...I don't post much but I try to keep up. It's information like this that would make my decision for me. Until now I actually was leaning towards the Koyo rad.
Band aids are for things that can eventually fix themselves. Great job as always Charles!
tajabaho1 05-05-2008, 02:56 PM Ahh....too broke to get a radiator that does the job. Got it.
NO RAY!! you don't get it do you!! its mad tyte to do those types of stuff, don't you get it by now? its the ownage style + retardedness + bling!! you're simply in the wrong on trying to sell the "good stuff"! you should sell useless JDM intakes and riced out wings
those are the REAL money makers
Jedi54 05-05-2008, 02:58 PM ^^^ yeah, to the honda CIVIC crowd!!! Oh wait, I've seen your car, never mind.
;)

works well at removing heat soak, but usually is used for the intercoolers... nitrous works well too for this
the biggest problem drifters have is running wide open for 45sec, then immediately ideling a few minutes for the next round with no cooldown run (no airflow to remove heat except radiator fans)... then repeating 2 or more times. Heat soak sucks...
BigRed 05-05-2008, 03:08 PM ^^^ yeah, to the honda CIVIC crowd!!! Oh wait, I've seen your car, never mind.

ROFL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
tajabaho1 05-05-2008, 03:12 PM aHHHHH it hurts, it HURTS!!!

LOL
xsnipersgox 05-05-2008, 03:56 PM Ahh....too broke to get a radiator that does the job. Got it.
well, there is a limit to how much cooling one can get from only ambient air flow, the effect of water evaporating takes away tons more heat than just air flowing through it o.O.. plus, if a drifter is properly drifting.. his car is sideways o.O... no airflow from the front of the car :banghead:

Has anyone actually read the description of this product?
"ensuing in better heat debauchery"
???WTF???
yale02 05-12-2008, 09:11 PM wow, it must be a sexy one... or perhaps its a watery orgy for the engine!
MazdaManiac 05-12-2008, 09:22 PM Poor Chinese-to-English translation software?
Last I checked, Scott and Betsey spoke pretty good English.
paulmasoner 05-12-2008, 09:23 PM wow, it must be a sexy one... or perhaps its a watery orgy for the engine!

I wash my car more often than I should and I use this on the MS tips.
nycgps 05-12-2008, 10:30 PM Everybody chip in ! I'll collect the funds, get the rad, take at least 50 pictures, then I will sell it back out on ebay and refund everybody who chipped in :)
Anybody ? :)
tajabaho1 05-12-2008, 10:48 PM you fail at life
MazdaManiac 05-12-2008, 11:13 PM Who says anybody from Mazsport wrote the text? When we have wholesale arrangements our wholesalers have links to promotional materials that we can use to cut and paste when we create our webpages. My guess is that MIMO prepared that text. One thing if for sure; I write all the text for BHR's stuff and there is a website out there that has pix and text. I just haven't used it yet.
So, is it too much to ask a vendor to proof-read something before they cut-n-paste it to their WEB page?
Take a look at my AP page. I removed all of the claims that I feel are misleading in the original Cobb marketing stuff.
olddragger 05-27-2008, 11:43 AM Ray --shame--shame---:)
If we can get a radiator that can truely handle the requirements of keeping this engine cool under load then THAT is the time to invest into a cooler thermostant. AND WE DO NOT HAVE ONE!!!! We want a 180F thermostat, We want a 180F thermostat!!! Waaa, waaa, waaaa!
By the way that is full open at 180F.
