View Full Version : RX8/BS withdrawals...
mwood 04-24-2008, 07:39 PM Looking at the line up for BS at this weekend's NorCal divisional, I'm seriously bumming that I jumped out of the RX8 so early this year...between ULLLLLOSE, TeamRX8, BryanH, Rob Luis and others, BS looks like one of the funnest classes...to make matters worse, we haven't run the XP car since SD Tour and I've gotten zero seat time to figure out how to drive the car or development time to get the race suspension, aero and other tweaks installed and dialed in...:banghead:
TeamRX8 04-24-2008, 07:41 PM Bill Schenker was looking for a codriver in his CSP Miata
otherwise, help is on the way ...
Hey, at least you have something to drive.
TeamRX8 04-24-2008, 07:47 PM Hey, at least you have something to drive.
occasionally between repairs anyways .... :uhh:
ULLLOSE 04-24-2008, 07:54 PM Hey, at least you have something to drive.
What is stopping you from running the 8?
What is stopping you from running the 8?
Nothing much, except tires. Just let me make my excuse and move on. :)
Here's the other car:

Not exactly...our car is at least a runner...:squint:
Sean's Elise should be killer, when completed, Jason.
Bill and I emailed back and forth on his CSP car, but the only way I was going to jump in that ride was if Glenn, who owns the XP car, couldn't get it back together...I'm not going to hang him and bail out at the last moment, he needs me to warm his tires...fortunately, with 320rwhp and 275 section A6's, getting them warm isn't too hard :)
Actaeon 04-27-2008, 11:15 PM Too bad you missed out.
It was a lot of fun, even though I got my butt handed to me.
Nice meeting of all you at the Divisional.
I was in the black RX-8 with too many options from the factory.
Jonathan
GlenAnderson 04-28-2008, 10:46 AM Congrats to all the divisonal Trophy Winners
Matt F in 4th
TeamRX8 in 3rd
ULLLOSE in 2nd
and BryanH in 1st (only non RX8 in trophies)
mwood 04-28-2008, 11:40 AM Bryan was on fire...day one's course definitely favored the MR2, in my opinion, but even so, he just drove the wheels off of the car all weekend.
Given how well the event came off, I wouldn't be surprised to see this divisional become an annual thing with an entry cut off enforced!

:yesnod: Bryan was super fast both days... Seems to have found a new setup that brought the car to life, just wonder how much faster it could have gone without the "active" camber adjustment. :icon_no2:
Matt really surprised me on day one when he was just a few tenths off of me, but he seemed to crack under the pressure on Sun and get sloppy. Good quick group of Bstockers to play with up there.
DKNV was also really quick all weekend.... Should be a great show in BSL at natls this year.
The course was great. However, I don't think I will be back unless something is done about that surface. I guess the good news is that I now have some experience to apply when we take our project rally car out for the first time.
tomsn16 04-28-2008, 12:37 PM Are results posted anywhere yet?
ULLLOSE 04-28-2008, 01:15 PM Are results posted anywhere yet?
Not yet... It was something like Bryan .5 ahead of me, and TRX8 1.6 behind me in 3rd. Results should be up on the SFR page shortly.

Yeah, they should be...there was a small mix up and the wrong file was sent to the Webmaster. Results should def. be up pretty soon.

Maybe I'm blind, but either I don't see it, or its not there right now?

Thanks Jason.
I think I figured out the problem.
My computer saved a cached version of the old page with no results, thus I had the pre-results page. Clearing the cache in my web browsers have resolved it.

LOL, next time bring decent tires rather than 120 run drifting rocks :lol2:
While everyone else complained about sliding around, we seemed to have the opposite problem. Our car felt solid even on the first run, but for me the rear seemed to pick up more grip with every run and throw off the balance. We still have some more work to do ... :dunno:

I would love to use that excuse, but they were not that old. they were used at the SD tour and ET Pro with two drivers. I don't think new tires would have been enough to catch him on sat. :icon_no2:

What was the surface like - high grip/low grip? Open or tight course?

RallyCross. The locals call it Gravel Gate Field for good reason. While they did do a good job of blowing the course off, the aggregate is in such bad shape your tires just sit on the tips of rocks that protrude out of it. To get an idea, picture the condition of the north course at Forbes, but in asphalt. Then you have a horse track on one side and the San Francisco bay on the other, lots of opportunities for wind to blow junk on the lot. This made HPT look, and feel, like concrete.
The course was a great mix, both low and high speed turns (mostly low on sat then faster on sun), some fast transitions, great design, would have been super fast on a sticky surface.
This is now #1 on my list of bad lots (due to surface), Tucson use to be #1. If they get it worked out and repave the lot, it could be a really nice location.
BryanH 04-29-2008, 02:57 AM Did I mention I had half a tank of gas in the car? ;) Filled it up Friday night like an idiot. . .
It was great to run with you all. I'm not used to such a big competitive class at these events. Looking through the results, third through sixth were very close!
I'm sure I'll return to form at El Toro, trailing you-know-who. :)

I guess with those lot conditions, mid-engined & awd cars would have a noticeable advantage in being able to put the power down 'better'. Not to take anything away from Bryan - his top time on Saturday was a notch above everyone else in the class.
FWIW, this past weekend I did a local event on a gravel covered lot and had a bear of a time in the RX-8. Couldn't put the power down coming out of the slower corners - and lost to a friend of mine (who drives another RX-8) by 3/100ths of a second. Fun times at the RallyX!!!

Every time he has brought out the MR2t he has been fast, but typically I can count on him to cone away those runs.... He really let me down this time.
BryanH 04-29-2008, 02:40 PM Finally came to the realization it's better to get those cones out of the way early. ;)
I think Saturday did favor my car and I should have been faster (I figured 52s were possible after my messy first run, but my camber bolts had other ideas). Sunday's course I think was a wash with the higher speed stuff allowing the RX-8s to get into the meat of their powerband.

yeah, I was on the rev limiter hard in 2nd coming into the finish slalom on Sunday even with the taller tires, if the car wasn't understeering badly exiting the turn that led into this section I probably could have justified going to 3rd gear

actully he did cone away those runs, both his coned 1st runs were his fastest raw time for each day ...
BryanH 04-30-2008, 01:11 AM ... the nice thing this time was that I didn't waste the entire first day chasing a huge setup deficiency. The past couple years at El Toro I had to go for broke on Sunday morning.
Pictures from the Divisional are here:

A few shots of BS snuck in there, too... [page 12ish]

Those are some great pictures Bryan. Thanks for taking them and getting them posted.
