Might I suggest you dump IE and use Opera? I have run it as an aletrnate browser since version 3 way back, and have found myself using it more often than not with IE crapping out every 5 minutes.

Free with banner add, rather cheap registration. Great support. Try it at www.opera.com

I used Opera for a long time but 7.03? was horrible, very unstable. Opera would kill my cable connection!!!! I have no idea how, but I tested it with a few machines on my network. I didn't have any problems on my LAN, but none of my machines could get out if I used Opera intensely, which is usually the case when I surf. I had to reset my cable modem to get the link back up. I could duplicate it easily with Opera, I couldn't with Mozilla or IE. Maybe the newer versions are better, my friends say they are....

I use IE 6, it's free, I block banner ads and popups with free, easy plug ins, works great on every single website i browse EXCEPT rx8club.com images. I refuse to change my browser because one server out of the thousands I visit cannot properly handle images.

Has anyone tried disabling Mickeysloth's JIT compiler, as I mentioned in this post (http://www.rx8club.com/showthread.php?s=&&postid=164982#post164982)?

Hey, I'm just offering an alternative. I've never had trouble with Opera, like the size and speed of it. IE has never impressed me playing catchup to stuff that the few other browsers out there already have. While IE with googlebar is pretty good, I'd rather not have to instal multiple plugins just to get my browser to work properly. I like to keep my machine clean is all :D

Anyway, Opera has more than just working on this one server.

Ever since I applied this registry edit for IE to download 10 images maximum per second, or something like that (From what I remember, limit is 5). I've had problems with the browser not loading most images on any given webpage, the problem is exacerbated if the page is heavily dependent on images.

But I've had IE problems even before that, sometimes when I type in an address, it directly sends me to a webpage I have previously visited within the past hour. This problem seems to go with time it seems. As times pasts, IE eventually craps out, literally. Any address I type in points me to some "Error 404: Page not found" page.

I've been using Mozilla Firebird ever since, and Opera on another computer in the house. Both are good alternatives to IE.

If you use IE then please check out the free Avantbrowser plugin which makes it about 100x better.

Has anyone with problems viewing images noticed it seems to be working ok now? I haven't had any difficulty in maybe the last week or two. Did someone change something on the server? Is anyone still having problems (mainly for users of Internet Explorer.)

I was having problems, then it seemed to be working for a week or so, and now since a few days ago it's back to sucking.

It's quite incredible that this can be the only website in all of internetdom that screws up like this, but in my own experience it's true. I can look at a few threads, and it's fine, then suddenly it won't show graphics, the status bar at the bottom shows it's still trying to load an image, and that IE session will not show graphics again. If you look at the status bar, it seems to be stuck on a banner ad graphic.

I don't know if it's the banners here, or something with the config of the new hardware, or some users with crappy avatars or sig files that are killing it, but it's definitely ONLY this site that has this problem. You'd think that with 80%+ of internet browsers using IE, that the forum management would be interested in solving THEIR problem. It's not OUR problem (the users), it's the problem with the forum hosts' software or hardware.

It's getting to be a real pain in the ass!

Gordon

Thanks, Gordon. That perfectly describes what was happening to me. Maybe I've just been lucky the last few days but I haven't experienced the problem. when I do, I have to shut all browser windows, then restart and I'm fine again. I'll keep an eye out for more problems and report back.

The problem has returned on my laptop, too. Bummer, I thought I'd cured it by disabling the JIT compiler. :(

<< sigh. >>

I wonder what it's like to have to deal with problems like that on a daily basis? Not to mention viruses, security breaches, ad nauseam.

But then again, I use Mac's OS-X Safari browser (at home, anyway). Gorgeous, fast, and (nearly) flawless -- just like our 8s. ;)

Kidding aside, I've also had the "where'd the pitchers go?" problem on my PC at work. Shhh. Don't tell my boss I'm browsing here on the job! Yeah, I know, Big Brother has probably already ratted me out.

I take back my earlier comment; problem is still here.

Have to agree with other IE users - this forum is the only one I've ever browsed that has managed to "kill" my browser every visit. Happens on IE 5.x, and 6.x

Strange stuff.
