View Full Version : Performance mods under $200? Nitroblast121 04-22-2008, 06:58 AM hey i just got my 04 manual rx8 and i am new to this forum. I am still in high school, and so my budget is a little tight. what are some good mods to do that are under $200? expo1 04-22-2008, 07:41 AM The way things are going you should save the $200 for gas. Otherwise about the only thing you can do for under $200 that you would notice is front sway bars. Power wise improvements do not come cheap. Spinning Sushi 04-22-2008, 07:43 AM You bought the wrong car if you're looking for performance mods under $200. Spinning Sushi 04-22-2008, 08:06 AM Actually, I retract my last statement. I found a couple mods that are below $200 and are proven to give you gains. Here are four items that should help your RX-8 gain power. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Air-Intake-MPG-Mod-Save-Gas-hp-Mazda-3-6-miata-rx-8-rx8_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ42604QQihZ014QQitem Z330230285947QQrdZ1QQsspagenameZWDVW http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Mazda-RX-7-RX-8-Performance-rx7-rx8-Chip-Module-Mod_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ33597QQihZ018QQitem Z280218519386QQrdZ1QQsspagenameZWDVW http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/REAL-GAS-FUEL-SAVING-PERFORMANCE-CHIP-RX-8-RX8_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ33597QQihZ002QQitem Z120247979857QQrdZ1QQsspagenameZWDVW http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Mazda-RX8-Intake-Supercharger-Turbo-Performance-Chip_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ33741QQihZ023QQite mZ360041259370QQrdZ1QQsspagenameZWD1V imput1234 04-22-2008, 09:25 AM Actually, I retract my last statement. But dude this car is going to bankrupt you on gas. I ususally try to budget myself $300 a month for gas. kersh4w 04-22-2008, 10:35 AM yep, i use ~$300/month for gas. and that was at $3.50/gallon now its closer to $4. :/ savedsol 04-22-2008, 11:55 AM You're in high school. According to recent news articles your education regarding your future and economics/finance is quite lacking. SAVE your $200.00. In 20 years you might wish you had invested that money instead of having bought a sway bar/intake/etc. Don't give in to instant gratification just because cash is in hand. I know my solution is not cool but believe me it's sound. Your generation is inheriting a lot of debt. kersh4w 04-22-2008, 12:05 PM it sucks. 8 years ago i thought i was looking forward to a surplus filled future. no dice now. 3 trillion dollars in debt! anybody have 3T to spare? what could you do with 3 trillion dollars? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lgq5suMXCV8 pdxhak 04-22-2008, 12:05 PM a shift knob is a performance mod like a wing is a performance mod on a civic Well that is why I said it is not a performance mod. kersh4w 04-22-2008, 12:06 PM at least its not a kock-lite. (anybody remember that thread? lolol) markav33 04-22-2008, 05:05 PM dont waste your money on those fake ebay chips there just resistors that do nothing for your car. for 200$ buy a short ram intake it will improve performance and make your car sound badass alz0rz 04-22-2008, 05:09 PM used to fill up every other week on my mx3 ~$100 a month on gas. with this car i'm filling up every week ~$250 a month on gas. you gotta pay to play! staticlag 04-22-2008, 05:12 PM You're in high school. Spinning Sushi 04-22-2008, 05:37 PM dont waste your money on those fake ebay chips there just resistors that do nothing for your car. for 200$ buy a short ram intake it will improve performance and make your car sound badass What are you talking about? Those ebay chips really works! Ask StealthTL, RG zoom44, MazdaManiac, mysql, Jedi, Charles, and Razz! We are all pushing +300whp because of these things! invasion08 04-22-2008, 06:17 PM I would get mazsport cooling fan mod and there ignition wires. Jedi54 04-22-2008, 06:22 PM STOP giving away my secrets!!! :FIREdevil chrism 04-22-2008, 07:01 PM i would get this http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v693/chrismarko2/pie.gif Jedi54 04-22-2008, 07:12 PM ^^ can't believe you left out the famous Chrism McDonalds Pie picture. GOSH!!! maskedferret 04-22-2008, 07:45 PM I can't believe no one has said anything about driving school or autocross or something of the like. The ultimate performance mod is the driving skill mod. Juice 04-22-2008, 09:06 PM For some decent mods for a tiny bit of performance/aesthetics/comfort. These aren't in any particular order, just what came to my mind first. 1. Axial Flow Short Shifter ~250 2. K&N Drop In Filter/remove baffles/1 screen from intake ~50 3. Lowering Springs ~160 for Tein S-Tech (I had them and they were great) 4. A good car wash/polish/wax. Price depends on how far you really want to take it and how bad your paint is. 5. Tint ~100-150 6. Basic maintenance including tranny/diff/engine oils, plugs/wires/coils, coolant, brake fluid flush. Again price will depend on how much needs to be done 7. Racing Beat Ram Air Duct ~135 8. Racing Beat AC/Oil Cooler Protective screens ~100 Keep in mind that none of these mods are major, and are probably only slight improvements or just protective measures that you can make. RedefineRX8 04-22-2008, 10:08 PM You will not gain any significant power NA. Especially for 200 bucks. If you can save up another 150 or so and can deal with not having your car for a week... get the racing beat flash. That is an excellent choice for a small dollar amount. The lowering springs will do nothing but aesthetics without an aftermarket strut to go along with them. Also, the install will make this a much LARGER cost than just the springs themselves. Seriously, after you get the RB flash save your money for one of the following. 1. a lightweight flywheel 2. lightweight rims 3. Mazsport Ignition Solution 4. Mazsport Dual Resonated Midpipe 5. Drop in airfilter (Rmagic, or k&n) 6. An introductory level coilover system or a spring/shock combo (followed of course by a good alignment) A lot of us have wasted money to find out the hard way a lot of mods do little more than use up a lot of money at the end of the day. These are ones I would recommend the most. Razz1 04-23-2008, 12:12 AM For a kid in HS... HPDE or Auto X is the best mod. markav33 04-23-2008, 05:13 AM there is no way those chips work!?? your tellin me those 20 dolar resistors are givin yo as much hp as a housand dolar real performance chip markav33 04-23-2008, 05:20 AM What are you talking about? We are all pushing +300whp because of these things! ok so all of you guys using these ebay chips are swearing by these chips? are you just quoting the 300 horsepower because it says it adds 80 or is this proven to work StealthTL 04-23-2008, 05:36 AM MarkGuy - SE3P is just playin you like a piano, just to watch you react...... For Mr. Nitro, you won't get much bang for your $200, the best I can suggest is a front anti-sway bar, that is do-able for the bucks, and put it on yourself as a good reason to get down and dirty with your '8. ....but I would probably just go buy the polish that smells the best and spend some quality time with the paint! Kind of odd that if people only invest and don't splurge spend then they are only hurting themselves  My generation? I'm but 7-8 years older than you. Investing is spending. Investing is not putting it under a mattress. When you put money in a bank CD they now have more capital to lend to home owners, businesses, etc. When you buy stocks you're putting that money into a corporation so they can use it to grow. But I agree on the two chicks at the same time. Beeotch 04-23-2008, 10:19 AM in highschool u can buy a lot of weed for $200 bux then drive the rx8 doing 40 mph but it will feel like 100 mph. Things i would recomend getting for that price is. Grounding Kit, used midpipe, used intake, brighter HID's, spoiler, eyelids, tints, a lot of cleaning supplies, camera for nice pics of car, steel brake lines, car cover, front or rear strut bar, clear corners, rotary rasp footwell lights, and you gotta have a rotary lanyard and key chain from http://www.rotary13b1.com/keychain4.html .
