Picked the little baby up yesterday morning, and to say it's a beautiful thing is somewhat of an understatement!

The lines, the curves THAT BLOODY ENGINE NOISE!!!! Ahhhh, I can't wait to go for another spin (excuse the pun).

By the way, am I the only one who is really, REALLY struggiling to keep that keen, eager little engine below 4500revs. It just wants to go and go and go, etc.

Hope everyone is having as much fun as I am, and to those who haven't got theirs yet............................................... .................................... It totally, absolutley and utterly worth every second of waiting!!!!!

Why keep it below 4500rpm.

I have problems keeping it under 9000rpm!

Mixed driving for me, 4000 - 8000, just not constantly thrashing it at the moment.

Seems to be OK, the handbook doesn't say you can't!

Oilman, the only thing in that novel that they call the handbook about running in, is it says that you shouldn't "race the engine". When I picked the car up, the dealer wittered something about keeping it below 5000 revs, but then in the next breath said that Japanese cars don't actually need running-in.

Perhaps we should start a post about running-in like the yanks did?

Pillman, it's the best car I've ever driven.
Type R - Cheap, fast but suspension back-jarringly hard.

S2000 - quick, fantastic engine(not as good as ours though) but £27K and no where near worth the extra.

BMW330ci - very "nice", but again far from value for money.

A car I would have liked to test drive but haven't is the 350z, but after reading all the reviews (the fantastic engine, the cheap and rattiling interior) I stiil feel that the RX8 is the bussiness:)

Just to confirm for any panickers amongst us, the RX-8 manual refers to the fact that no specific running in is required. However there are some recomendations so to speak.

I know its a totally different beast, but the jap comment could be true. When I picked up my last Celica, I asked about running it in and he said "go easy on the brakes, but as for the engine, we've found they perform better in the long run if they get opened up from the beginning - may get worse fuel consumption later though" - however, don't all go blaming me if this isn't true ;-)

I have decided to keep revs down for first 600 miles under about 5000. I have already done 450 miles so should get to 600 in next couple of days. I did however pull 6000 once when i forgot what gear I was in and put my foot down and it did start to sound nice. So I should find out what music there is at 9000 soon enough.
