Easy_E1 04-03-2008, 09:27 PM So I had to finish off the Red Wheel color scheme, so I did some interior painting.
Let me know what you all think.

I still want to do the silver semi circle around the radio face. Coming soon.

And here is what got it all started.

I've also done the door sill where it has the RX-8 plate. Not to mention the RR red LED footwell lights and map lights are red LED's also front and rear emblems.

the paint came out nice bro!
what paint did you use? it looks good.
Ross_Dawg 04-03-2008, 09:50 PM looks good man, you need some red near the mid vents though... IMO
05TiGr8Lady 04-03-2008, 10:07 PM Nice job! Are you keeping a small amount of chrome? Strakes, front and rear rotary accents?
chrism 04-03-2008, 10:20 PM very different...kudo's for the balls and for pulling it off!
thebiggdaddy 04-03-2008, 10:38 PM not sure about the decals.
yale02 04-03-2008, 10:45 PM E,
looking great man! Its a very unique look that contrasts the Ti grey well. When you do the semi-circle on the radio it will really tie in the bezels with the a/c knobs.
Looks awesome Erik! Like Chris said, it takes some balls to try and pull it off! But, you did it and it came out great! Is that Velocity Red or something else?
Armin
the stig 04-03-2008, 11:23 PM everything looks nice, but i really dont like the red rear emblem...they dont look right.
fahrfegneugen 04-03-2008, 11:23 PM That is really good work, I think it looks great. I especially like what you did with the pieces that run along the center consul on the sides. The silver on mine is getting warn a bit and it is a little scratched.
BigRed 04-03-2008, 11:39 PM I have to do that interior for mine, just in blue.
HockeyRX-8 04-03-2008, 11:43 PM I like it, but my car already has the red and black seats. As chrism said Kudo's for pulling it off!
Easy_E1 04-04-2008, 12:13 AM the paint came out nice bro!
what paint did you use? it looks good.
I used Duplicolor Metalcast http://www.duplicolor.com/products/metalcast.html
Nice job! Are you keeping a small amount of chrome? Strakes, front and rear rotary accents?
Strakes and front accent will remain silver. I have the Mazdaspeed rear.
Thanks for the compliments. :)
very different...kudo's for the balls and for pulling it off!
Thanks Chris.

That is going to be the fun one to do. But I have to do it to fill that gap.
Thanks to everybody else for the compliments. I'm not quite done yet. Oh and I also jut got a rotor shaped oil fill cap. And guess what,, it's red now too.
I figure the last thing under the hood will be an AEM intake. And yes it will be red.
snowflakes 04-04-2008, 12:20 AM looks prettty sweeet! great job dude. especially the rotors on the seat, it really accentuates it~~ +1

said7 04-04-2008, 10:26 AM It looks great but...
I'm gonna chime in here cause i have TONs of experience in the DIY painted interiors.
In order to do this. You need to rough sand the pieces and prime them. If you dont want the paint will start chipping.
Even if you do tho, in several months the paint will chip, fade and scratch and will end up looking horrible. You will ave to repaint em.
If you have the means paint the parts with Eurethane paints (car body paint) This is super resistant to heat, scratches, etc... and clear coat.
Ive painted about 3 interiors and id never paint anything from a can i got at the store.
the_Colombian 04-04-2008, 10:30 AM very nice but the trunk has a bit too much red.
TopGear8 04-04-2008, 02:28 PM That's alot of red, it looks really good!
nuke0907 04-04-2008, 11:49 PM It looks great but...

the metalcast paint does not say to use a primer or sand before using it. it is made to work on shiny chrome-like surfaces. its almost like a candy coat that lets the chrome shine through.
good tips otherwise though.
ROTARY_Eddy 04-05-2008, 12:30 AM hmmm.. I lik some of it, nice work!! Inspired
Jedi54 04-05-2008, 12:56 AM nicely done, not overkill

Easy_E1 04-05-2008, 12:34 PM what exactly was the process for doing this? do the seat accents come out?
The seat accents are just clipped together. They pull apart. The hardest part, which really isn't that bad is the console has to come out and taken apart. The sides have to come off.
The shifter ring comes out. I think it was three screws. That was a tight fitting piece.
And the vent rings. Just pull the vent out and if you look right behind the ring you'll see four little push through clips. All you have to do is gently squeeze them together. And the ring comes right off.
The fan and potentiometer knobs just pull out and and all you have to do is mask the center carefully.
The paint is made to go directly on the the parts surface. No primer. Just make sure it is clean of any wax/oil/grease. The more chrome/reflective the surface the better the paint looks.
They do make a base coat for this paint. But I found it has a very high metallic content. Not as satiny as say the console silver but more like the metallic of car paint. Which takes away from the anodized appearance and makes it more of a candy color like on a car body. Looks just like VR.
It looks great but...

+1 I'm liking it. Definitely unique.
everything looks nice, but i really dont like the red rear emblem...they dont look right.
I would say that it just looks unusual. Not wrong or visually offensive in any way. Nice touches.
nice and easy (<--pun intended)

HAHAHAHHA yes the interior but easy is a swell guy in person even though he goes against my teachings..hahah
07rx8gtblack 04-05-2008, 09:16 PM Nice.
I am thinking about adding some white to my interior. I have the red led interior lights and footwell lights that I feel will compliment the white surface.
Bumble_Bee 04-05-2008, 11:04 PM Likey, Likey!!!
Razz1 04-05-2008, 11:26 PM Its good butt........................................
I don't like the radio knobs and the shifter ring makes it look over done as there isn't a contrast.
The problem is I need to see it in person.
Maybe more photos will help.
I question those two things evaluating photos.
The accent is sharp and you did a good job.
Edit: Oh Ja, if your gonna do that .... What about the door handles?
Does the interior look even and balanced?

Thanks D :) Sometimes one must be a rebel.
I am following one bit of your advice and NOT doing the Lambo doors. Though the wife keeps talking about them every time she sees MM's car. :lol2:

What a critic :lol2: You know you'll see it in September at SevenstockXI. If thats when it is.
What radio knobs? And the last thing is going to be the silver semi circle around the radio, and more than likely the emergency flasher button too.
It was mentioned to do the steering wheel Mazda logo. That one I'm still debating on.
renesis28 03-09-2010, 10:41 PM i know i am commenting on a dead thread, but i was wanting to do this to my car except with the blue, but the blue on the website looks pretty light, do you know if more coats would fix this or not since its just a "transparent" colored coating?
josuar88 03-09-2010, 10:57 PM I want to know where to get the rx8 sticks for the brake calipers?
rodjonathan 03-09-2010, 11:32 PM looking really good bro ...
