^depends on what you want. sound/looks or speed? also, if you get a removable setup you get the best of both worlds :)

^Very true, But in my opinion, i think the stock system is loud enough. And since he's 16, he should worry about driving his car and paying attention, not blasting his music, which will distract him.

yeah how about you put that money into some driving classes? i mean your young and your chances of getting in an accident cause of inexperience is a lot higher than most people with rx8s. oh and first get an rx8 then see what you really want.

^Before you go posting other questions like, Which intake should i get? or... Does an exhaust really make you go faster? you need to search. All of the questions have been answered, so just read the stickies, and learn everything you can about the car, before you buy it.

I'm not a big audiophile but more of weight reduction freak. However, I wanted a decent bump on my tunes during long trips.
I found the JVC CS-BB2 (http://mobile.jvc.com/product.jsp?modelId=MODL027709&pathId=66&page=1) to be the perfect compromise.

i agree with you. now days, loud music is the cause a lot of the accidents. people listening to their music and cant hear their surrounding.

dont ever think you are a good driver when you just start driving. and IMO you are not very in to cars, which i think you are not a very good driver. why? the first thing you ask about a rx8 is subs, and sound system. i mean thats the first thing you ask lol. then cold air intake, i mean im sure everyone knows that term now after fast and furious the movie. but its just very childish and a silly comment.

dont have to take it personal, but i dont think rx8 is your type of car.

Your username is exactly right. Trix are for kids. RX-8s are NOT for kids getting their first car. My best friend got his 8 technically at 16 (like a week before his 17th birthday), after he'd been driving an old stick Honda for two years. I got mine at 18.

But seriously, wait a bit and get a beater car with a stick shift to learn on. Make your mistakes on that, and then look into getting an 8.

(the 8 takes away the tear) the rx8 might not be the "fastest" car but its still really quick! and + rwd makes it want to slide (my fave part) but its def not good for your first car. get a beater work and save up some $ then get the 8 when your 18 and your insurace will be cheaper and drop some $ into it. =]

You're 16 years old. You're a bad driver.

Just some stats:

In 2000, 6,495 people between the ages of 15 and 20 were killed in motor vehicle crashes—the leading cause of death for this age group. And although young drivers represent only 6.6% of the nation's licensed drivers, they are involved in 14.8% of fatal crashes. The National Safety Council urges all parents to familiarize themselves with the risks associated with young, inexperienced drivers.
Facts to Know

* Traffic crashes are the number one cause of death among children and young adults.
* More than 3,800 young drivers age 15-20 are killed every year in traffic crashes. More than 326,000 young drivers are injured.
* Young drivers are involved in fatal traffic crashes at over twice the rate as the rest of the population.
* Exceeding the posted speed limit or driving at an unsafe speed is the most common error in fatal accidents.
* About 30% of crashes killing young drivers involve alcohol.
* More than 1,000 young drivers lose their lives every year in crashes because of an impaired driver... be it themselves, or someone else.
* It is illegal in every state for a person under 21 to buy and/or publicly possess alcoholic beverages.
* All states and Washington, D.C. have zero tolerance laws. It is illegal for a minor (under 21) to purchase alcohol, so no amount of alcohol should be allowed in an underage driver.
* Zero tolerance laws are typically set between .00 and .02 per se as opposed to .08 or .10 for drivers 21 and older. Per se means that regardless of outward signs of intoxication, the amount of alcohol detected in the driver determines legal intoxication.

More Facts:

FACT: A teenager is killed in a car crash every 64 1/2 minutes. (NHTSA)
FACT: A teenager is injured in a car crash every 55 seconds (NHTSA)
FACT: Teenagers make up 7% of licensed drivers, but suffer 14% of fatalities and 20% of all reported accidents.
FACT: The driver fatality rate for 16-year-olds is 9 times the rate for drivers 30 to 60 years old.
FACT: 85% of crashes by 16-year-old drivers are attributed to "Driver Error," Not speed. Not drugs. Not alcohol.
FACT: There are approximately 13,000,000 drivers between 16 and 20 years old today (US Census Bureau) That number is expected to grow to over 16,000,000 in just 10 years.
FACT: The cost of police-reported crashes involving teen drivers in 2002 was $40,800,000,000 ($40.8 Billion) (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration)
FACT: There is no in-car driver training in the high school systems in 25 states. There is no driver ed at all in another 7 states.
FACT: In the overwhelming majority of states, a driver's license is issued to a 16-year-old with no official ever having seen the teenager drive a car on the road.
FACT: The average 16-year-old soccer player has had 1,500 hours of coached soccer practice, but only 50 hours of driving experience is required in most states for a driver's license.

Bottom line... planning doesn't make up for experience.

anyway we were all once at your age. i know you might say you have experience in "driving" but you are still in a conditioning period, which means you dont have much experience on the road and THAT is something you cant argue with. most of the car lover all know about driving, and blah blah.

I think everyone should learn how to drive like I did: on a farm tractor, going 8mph for hours in the field.

Then you upgrade at 16 to a Geo Metro governed to 55mph.

I'm not saying I was a good driver when I was young. Removed by 13 years of time and experience I realize I was a horrid driver. As we all were at that age. Of course telling a 16 year old they suck at driving will only cause them to react defensively and proclaim they are great drivers.

Duh you old farts, did you forget that young people know everything and will never get hurt by anything?

I found the Bose system to be lacking in both clarity and guts. I also found an upgraded stereo in my 8 to be an excellent project to consume my free time with.

I believe that anyones first car should be a beater. That way you can have your stupid new driver accidents like "Hitting a concrete piller while reversing out of your parking space" on a car that you don't love passionately and don't want the slightest scratch on. :eyetwitch

About the whole not being able to drive... I'm 22 and I can tell now that I'm a much smarter and better driver than I was, and tell you the truth I was a damn good driver at 16, but I was a bad driver not because of ability but because of the whole mental approach and experience. Sorry I want to fight for you but give yourself 5 years and you'll understand what I'm saying

man, your amp must get hot all covered up like that. Heat=bad for electronics.

I'd get a 4080 box with nothing bigger than a 10" sub. You can still use the pass through and you don't loose much trunk space at all, plus it is easily removable.

Try getting a capacitor or a gel battery. It will alleviate this issue.

You're 16 years old. You're a bad driver.

pretty much.

i think your first mod will be a high performance driving event.

that mods your driving SKILL. because, quite frankly, you have very little. drivers ed is a JOKE. the fact that you bring that up shows your noobiness.

accept that you are NOT a good driver, you just simply dont have the EXPERIENCE.

dont mod the car. mod your skill. take some HPDE or autocross courses.

:squint: I have seen people run laptops under a foot away from stacks of bass bins containing 15" drivers that required about 6 Kilowatts of power, and the laptop suffered no ill effects.

The magnetic forces used to write to hard drives only really work at distances that are less then the thickness of a human hair. There are very specific systems that could blank a drive from a distance, but a sub isn't one of them.

Personally, I ran my car computer in the trunk with my 10" sub for well over a year with absolutely no problems.

Heres my current setup. Not quite finished yet, but have some work in progress photos. I'm pretty much down to installing the front speakers, sorting out interference issues, and getting rid of all those rattles. It's a great project for a lazy Saturday. When all that's done, I'll clean up all my wires.

Thanks for the input. I had the same concern (heat build-up). That's the main reason I chose a class D amp. One of the main advantages of a class D over a class A or B or A/B is the relatively low amount of power loss to heat. Most of the power supplied to the amp is used to generate sound. I've also never experienced any electrical problems; surges, dimming, low voltage even without a capacitor. The down side to a class D amp is a higher level of harmonic distortion compared to A,B,A/B,C, making it less desirable for full range applications, however harmonic distortion is difficult to detect in the lower frequency range, making the D class amp well suited to drive subs. The enemy of low frequency reproduction is a type of distortion call " inter-modular distortion" (IM, sounds like the sub is tearing or farting). IM distortion in this set up is very low to none. The subs I have are mounted in a removable box built to fit under the rear deck and can be removed easily by simply disconnecting the speaker wires. The fit is so tight it requires no fastening and has never moved in spite of some fairly aggressive driving at times.
