View Full Version : Car I couldnt identify
8 Maniac 03-26-2008, 07:39 PM As the title says, there was a car I saw the other day with some friends which we just could not identify. Unfortunately we didnt have time to get a picture. It looked to have a somewhat similar shape to the mercedes slk coupe but a bit more curved (profile in the back). As far as I/we could tell, it was a little different. It had some symbol on the front and back but the mercedes badge is rather distinguishable and did not appear to be that. Unfortunately it was yesterday and at the moment that's all I can think of to describe it... any ideas would be great! (and no, I made sure it wasn't the illusive MS8)
ShAdOwFoX 03-26-2008, 07:59 PM it could be just an slk and somewhat decided to put up a custom badge or something
said7 03-26-2008, 11:23 PM Maseratti?
8 Maniac 03-27-2008, 01:00 AM it seemed a bit shorter in the front though. And the front nose was definitely different... could have been a body kit (I dont believe so seeing as it was an older lady driving, but I could be wrong). It just looked similar in shape to an slk, but to me, looked a decent amount different. Just remembered that there were fender vents on the sides... decently larger than those on our 8s. Almost sure it was not a mercedes.

imtooparanoid 03-27-2008, 02:53 AM Could it have been a Fisker?

dshiznit1489 03-27-2008, 03:31 AM The new Jaguar XK?
passtheapathy 03-27-2008, 03:46 AM Some kind of Maserati, I'd guess.
JRichter 03-27-2008, 09:55 AM Crossfire?
Easy_E1 03-27-2008, 09:58 AM Pinto?
alnielsen 03-27-2008, 10:06 AM Yugo?
8 Maniac 03-27-2008, 12:08 PM was a nicer looking car.... so obviously not a pinto, pacer, ect. Still had larger fender vents than any of the cars listed so far and as I said, the front seemed shorter than the slk, and shorter than most the more reasonable guesses so far. Wasnt a crossfire... it actually looked decent.
Feras 03-27-2008, 12:10 PM was it an MG i forget the name of their most recent small convertible but i know it looks kinda like what you are describing

No MG's in Texas yet, unless someone brought it here.
the new one is the TF
JTtheDude 03-27-2008, 12:28 PM How big was the car in size? something that could seat 4 people? Was it a Lotus?
JRichter 03-27-2008, 01:38 PM Did it still have a rear deck/trunk or was it more hatch-like?
Wheel style? Mesh or spoke?
Dual exhaust tips or single?
Color?
How did it differ from this:

Jethro Tull 03-27-2008, 03:37 PM was a nicer looking car.... so obviously not a pinto, pacer, ect..
It could have been a custom body job on a common car...

NSX? It has a short front and a back that looks like someone chopped it lol
New or old Viper or Viper Venom with a kit?
8 Maniac 03-27-2008, 03:47 PM As I said, it was basically 5-10 seconds that I was able to see it so I wasnt really able to get all the details. if it was a body job, it was one of the finest I've seen. The front nose looked more open than the one posted by JR. The thing I noticed most was the over all profile and the rather large vents on the side. I know for sure it wasnt a viper or nsx. It had a more rounded shape, and I dont really remember any sharp lines.
small edit: though it was only a short time I saw it, if I were to see it again or see a picture, I would definitely recognize it.
bsteimel 03-27-2008, 03:49 PM coupe or convertible?
There is a new Mercedes SLR roadster the exhaust tips are in front of the driver door, check that out. or
Look at the new jaguar coupe like the above person said. Maybe the new alfa romeo thats coming stateside, but i didn't think it was here yet.
bsteimel 03-27-2008, 04:12 PM Look through here and see if you recognize any of the car badges http://img148.imageshack.us/img148/165/autologosqn8.jpg
or just search logs on google image search

Josche 03-27-2008, 04:31 PM Maybe it was a Qvale Mangusta. I've seen a couple and it always throws me for a loop because they're so strange looking.

ding ding ding! we have a winner it seems. I thought it was a bit more rounded in the back, but it's hard to miss those vents. The front is pretty much as I remember, so I'm pretty much sure that's what it is! thanks!

I'm not too convinced you were trying... at least not trying hard...
All this fuss over what car it was, and it's not even that great of a car...
Didnt mean to make it sound like some awesome car... it looked nice, was clean and looked interesting.. that paired with my inability to identify it drove me to figure out what the hell it was... I can usually at least identify the logo, so this one was a bit of a surprise! Thanks for all the ideas guys.

What does Josche get for winning? :)
alnielsen 03-28-2008, 10:02 AM What does Josche get for winning? :)A hearty pat on the back, the warm thrill of victory and the short term feeling of superiority.
