View Full Version : Monaro vs. RX-8
rxate-sucks 11-07-2003, 09:05 AM Stats are as follows -
Monaro = 320 bhp/238.7 kW
RX-8 = 250 bhp/ 186 kW :(
Monaro = 200bhp per tonne
RX-8 = 183bhp per tonne :(
Monaro = 340 ft lbs torque
RX-8 = 159 ft lbs torque :(
Monaro = 38 mpg
RX-8 = 23 mpg :(
Monaro = £25,000 (all options)
RX-8 = £26,000 (Hi-power/satnav) :(
So why would you want to choose an RX-8
RobDickinson 11-07-2003, 09:08 AM Because only 1 of those 2 goes round corners...
Edit : and my RX-8 is £22,300.
Leather = £1.5k, satnav = £1.2k, total £2.7k - final price = £25,000 tops.
rxate-sucks 11-07-2003, 09:13 AM Because only 1 of those 2 goes round corners...
Of course a Mazda goes around corners else they would not be able to sell it in the UK. What about my performance specifications, any comment?
RobDickinson 11-07-2003, 09:18 AM Cars arnt the sum of their stats, thats all I'll say.
I'd rather drive a lotus elise with 118bhp or a caterham with 140bhp than any huge barge.
Comparing a large heavy high power car (which in my mind is nowhere near a sports car) to a small, low weight nimble sports car is pointless.
There completly different cars, build for different purposes. Try pushing the holden round a track (any track) for more than a few hotlaps and watch as the brakes melt..
Sexy Rexy 11-07-2003, 09:19 AM The only comment I have is 'GET LOST AND DON'T COME BACK' YOUR VIEWS AND OPINIONS ARE NOT WELCOME HERE. GO AND ANNOY SOME OTHER FORUM - It is not your money that is buying each invidual on this forum their 8, if it was then you can say what you like.
Goose 11-07-2003, 09:22 AM I'd have to say i seriously doubt that a monaro achieves 38mpg combined! An 1800 4 pot would be doing pretty well at that!
There are a hundred reasons why we would choose many cars over that sofa with a motor.
I hate myself for rising to this troll. I thought he had been removed?
Moderator!!!!!!!!!
jimbobjoe 11-07-2003, 09:27 AM Just waiting for the admins
RobDickinson 11-07-2003, 09:27 AM heh my 1.8 focus only gets 35mpg lol
Oh do give up you iritating pr*ck.
Are you posting the same comparions on every other car forum?
You dont like the RX8. You like your car. Great. Now go away.
Sexy Rexy 11-07-2003, 09:33 AM RX8-Sucks,
One last thing, I totally agree with what contingo posted on the other thread about you - You want the car but can not afford it. You have to sit it out watching what may have been:) :) :) :)
Goose 11-07-2003, 09:36 AM i'm summising that he doesn't feel as good about his car anymore, now that all the girls love that new Mazda and think his big 'ol brute is old hat and not sexy.
So he comes here to try to give his life some meaning.
Poor guy.
Maybe if you rear hinge some back doors onto it then the girls will like your OLDen again?
tw@t
0-60 - RX8 - 6.4, Holden Barge - 7.4
Weight. RX8 1350kg, 1640kg.
ploszek 11-07-2003, 09:42 AM Stop feeding the troll!
jimbobjoe 11-07-2003, 09:44 AM If anyone is actually interested, according to Vauxhall the Monaro will start from around £28,500 when it is launched in the spring. And yes it will have the Vauxhall badge on it.
rxate-sucks 11-07-2003, 10:07 AM Some good comments there, especially from jimbobjoe, I admit it's a shame about the Vauxhall badge.
Please stop referring to me as "him", I am female, and work as a Telemetry Analyst for a touring car team, that's why I have a Monaro (and it's an excellent car).
rxate-sucks 11-07-2003, 10:15 AM Some good comments there, nice to be able to discuss and voice an opinion, and listen to other peoples (except for Edo's, who really should have spent more time at school).
morganrogers 11-07-2003, 10:19 AM OK , troll-ette then if it makes you happy.
Either way , take the hint - go away....
M.
PS - Girls 'n' cars eh ? tsk.
I feel the time I spent at school, and a few years at university have served me well. Certainly given me the ability to recognise a sad person when I see one.
Given that you dislike the the RX8 so much and feel your Holden to be so much more superior, why are you on a Mazda RX8 forum, and why dont you spend your valuable time posting on a Holden forum?
PS. What do you expect on a forum for the RX8? You have a name of rxate sucks, and your only posts have been amature bashing of a car you neither own, no probably have even driven. Grow up.
Sexy Rexy 11-07-2003, 10:31 AM If the Holden is far superior than the 8, why are the Americans going crazy over the '8' RX8 Sucks?. I recon you were driving down the road the other day, an 8 pulled up alongside you and the crowd were admiring the beauty of the 8 - YOU SAD PATHETIC MAN.
Sexy Rexy 11-07-2003, 10:33 AM Sorry should have said monroe rather than holden
Rexy, It's a woman (apparently), although it could be a man when it is stalking the children in the chat rooms...
jimbobjoe 11-07-2003, 10:43 AM rxate-sucks has now left us.
now then, about that crappy RX-8..........
jimbobjoe 11-07-2003, 10:45 AM I was going to close this thread straight away, but then I thought some of you might want to say goodbye to our little friend........
I am sure it will appear under a different name. Bets on the name?

I thought that the IP address could be blocked so for the person to get back on they would have to get another connection??
Or am I talking poopoo???

Not poopoo
Depends if they get it assigned dynamically or they are coming through a company firewall etc.
oilman 11-07-2003, 11:04 AM GOODBYE - SHE-DEVIL:eek:
Cheers

Murphy 11-07-2003, 11:15 AM If that was a "female telemetry analyst for a touring car team", I'm a motorsport proctologist!
Jackel 11-07-2003, 11:24 AM Sad, really really sad.
Not rx8sucks, all the guys who get so hyped up so quickly and so easily.
This is a forum to discuss RX-8. Good points AND bad points. We are all very happy comparing it to other cars when it suits us, but get so intolerant as soon as someone says our toy is not the bestest in the whole world.
Calm down guys, it does not matter if she was right or wrong (and pretty much wrong). The point is, she came up with some argument, and you guys just lost all perspective.
And I just cannot work out why she (actually I am not convinced it was a she) was banned. I thought the moderator's job is to moderate, not to pay lip service to intolerant kids.
Apologies if I have offended people here - and go ahead, ban me too. But please, I want to be proud of my car, but not kill anyone who says it is not perfect. I and certainly don't want to be amongst those who do.
whiteco 11-07-2003, 11:37 AM I think your missing the point Jackel. Rx8sucks name and comments were just childish and immature. Anyone is welcome is post in this forum and any constructive arguments can be just that, a constructive argument.
Murphy 11-07-2003, 11:38 AM Jackel,
You would have to have read the "Delivery Date" thread before it was cleaned out to get a true perspective on this.
Rxate-sucks contributions consisted of petty and purile posts and insults, aimed at other forum members, not the car.
Having been all but ignored after a short while on that thread, he/she then started this one, by which time all his/her credibility was lost and sniping from him/her continued.
I visit a few forums on the web and without a doubt this is one of the friendliest and tolerant of "other" opinions as well as one of the most sensibly moderated.
Nobody was "killed", just someone hellbent on trolling prevented from returning.
Goose 11-07-2003, 11:45 AM here here.
Shame he/she never actually returned our arguments, just acknowledged that there were some good points made?! What was that, admission of talking nonsense?
Vauxhall eh? If it's half the car the Lotus Carlton was then it will be a welcome addition to our roads.
R.I.P.
Jackel 11-07-2003, 11:46 AM And who knows, maybe I over-reacted 2!
jimbobjoe 11-07-2003, 12:53 PM Jackel.
Users are never banned simply for disagreeing with the majority. It would be a sad forum indeed if we all just agreed with each other. rx8sucks is the first, and so far only, forum member that I have asked to have removed. Her posts in the Delivery Date thread were childish, uniformed and insulting.
She was send a PM asking her to tone down her attitude and invited to actually contribute to the forum. She chose to continue posting inflaming rubbish. Most of those posts have already been removed, along with others responses.
If you look in the general discussion forums you will see several members who do not own an RX-8 and don't intend buying one because they don't like it. But they contribute positively to the discussions on the subject.
rx8sucks contributed nothing, and antagonised a lot of people in only one day.
Sometimes people join forums just to wind people up. They are trolls and they get removed.
As long as you stick to the T&Cs (which do not require undying loyalty to the RX-8) you are very welcome here.
Pillman 11-07-2003, 01:10 PM Well said..
Harrizone 11-07-2003, 03:07 PM If sucksrx8's was a woman then I am suprised she has the strength to turn the wheel on a Monaro. Sorry I meant rx8sucks!
AnilS 11-07-2003, 03:28 PM Goose, Vauxhall did make half a Lotus Carlton ............. it was the Carlton 3000 GSi 24V.
AnilS.
AnilS 11-07-2003, 03:38 PM RXate-sucks is probably still viewing this forum, and seeing all us getting suitabily wound up, and having a laugh at our expense.
AnilS.
RobDickinson 11-07-2003, 03:45 PM Ahh. He/she/it has convinced me!
I was but 12 hours away from wasting my cash on the car of the year, now I think I'll go buy a huge fat vaxhaull instead....
druck 11-07-2003, 05:17 PM Just remember, Vauxhall managed for the first time in history to put one decent car in their line up (although it was made by Lotus) and they advertise it with Griff Reece Jones in his underpants. Even if the VX220 was solid gold, you could never get that image out of your mind.
Cheers

Alessandro 11-07-2003, 05:27 PM Big deal, this happens all the time at supercars.net nothing new under the sun...
renegade_si 11-08-2003, 06:12 AM ...but maybe she was fit? :)
I've got my car, I love it, I don't care.
The Monaro isn't such a bad car compared to the rest of the stuff built in Australia. But our market offers very poor cars compared to the rest of the world.
Anyone can stuff a big engine in a car.
Holden's are tanks, but they do suit a lot of Australian requirements.
The RX8 is unique and well balanced car. The Monaro is a family sedan with 2 doors deleted and stiffened suspension.
Harrizone 11-08-2003, 03:13 PM What's the Oz leather pack, Kangaroo skin??????? if so with or without the pouch. I would not be suprised if all the leather upholstery in our cars isn't from Oz
monaroCountry 11-28-2003, 05:02 AM Actually Australian cars are pretty good, their quality have dramatically been improved especailly in recent years, look at the BA ford falcon and VY holdens. Quality, durability, ergonomics, and aesthetics of these two cars are nearly on par with Europen cars. Future holdens and fords should narrow the gap or even surpass the Europens (of similar prices).
I dont think the RX8 is on par with the GTO (price, comfort aesthetics) however I have always respected the R (excellent fit and finish, sturdy, and a joy of a car to drive). I also dont believe people buying the RX8 and GTO would look at the other product (different needs). However a true car guy would/should always respect these two quality products.
I have seen the monaro in person (many in Aust) and loved the exterior. The monaro's exterior and interior design is more Euro. For me it doesn't look like a GP, GA or any other American car (people should get their eyes checked).
monaroCountry 11-28-2003, 05:09 AM The monaro in Aust is an icon. It's history and racing pedigree is richer than the GTO. The monaro (old and new) has won numerous races including bathurst in the 70's, bathurst 24 hr (03 and 04), targa tasmania, etc. During its time the monaro raced against the fastest 4 door car in the world, the ford GTHO phase 3.
I know that the GTO is Ameicas original MUSCLE car but it really annoys me when people bag Australias original MUSCLE car just to prove to everyone how great the GTO was.
monaroCountry 11-28-2003, 05:10 AM Yeah holdens have pouches (like the kangaroo) but its at the back of the chair. hahahhahaahahahha good one.
monaroCountry 11-30-2003, 04:07 AM the rxate is a great car rxate, but serves a totally different purpose from that of the RX8. My sig says monaro******* but I like good cars first (probably why I like the BA falcon).
Also on the Vauxhill monaro. The monaro is going to be raced in Leman and N-GT races in Europe as a vauxhill. The team using the monaro is Emotional engineering and should be very quick (N-GT allows changes to boy parts i.e. carbon fibre etc., therefore a drastic weight reduction for the monaro)
People stop attacking her (rx8sucks), its better to have constructive criticism.
Pillman 12-01-2003, 03:15 AM I was in Sydney and Melbourne last Jan...drooled over the Monaro..it does look beautiful...but am glad I have ordered an RX8. I have done the big engine stuff. When I worked in Melbourne in the 90's, I had a reps car (5 litre V8 multipoint fuel injected Ford Fairlaine)..
takahashi 12-01-2003, 04:20 AM There should be a review somewhere about this 2 cars... should be close.
I like both I admit... but I think the Monaro is going to drink more petrol? Someone told me they have done a 30L/100km??? Try that in your 8? (hehe)
labrat 12-02-2003, 06:56 AM I think that Monarocountry has summed up the Monaro pretty well. What it does, it does well. However, it isn't a sports car (at least the way I define it, which has more to do with the shear exhilaration of driving than straight line power). At the end of the day, its heritage is a Holden Commodore (read Chevy Lumina in Middle East markets). Yes, the Holden engineers have done a great fairy godmother job on the Cinderella Commodore, but the haven't built a sports car from the bottom up like Mazda has done with an RX-8.
It's also an image thing , too. I hate to say it, but I'm not really the Monaro type. The RX-8 fits us like a glove.

So stop banging on about it on an RX8 forum then.
