Question Source for spare tire ?

Does anyone have a good source for a spare tire? Is a "donut" compact spare recommended? I prefer saving some money for the spare tire and rim by not buying from the dealer. He quoted $500 including the trunk mounting kit. Tirerack is a good vendor and maybe they have a compatible product.

I have 2 spare oem rims up for grabs that were replaced recently in an insurance claim (I actually have 3 but I am keeping one for myself as a spare). They are mildly scratched (nothing sending them away or taking them somehwhere and spending $70-100 couldn't fix) that I am willing to part with for shipping and mild compensation for my time to box them and drive to ups. less or nothing if you want to arrange a meeting in the dc area. I'll post some pics probably on veterans day when I wash my car and have a chance to clean them up. PM me if you are interested I guess. First come first serve.

most flats occur within 50 miles of the home. handy to have in the garage for the wife (or husband) to drive out to you in an emergency. faster than roadcare.

I had mine dealer fitted... I've taken it out and put it back in since... but I imagine the first hurdle is that it looks like the lining in the trunk has to be cut in the right place...

You'll have to remove the lining, to see what's going on, but there's 2 bolts to remove, place the brackets on and do back up... the lining has to be cut so these bolts can be reached even when the lining is in, becuase you the brackets will hold the lining... hence you can't remove it before the brackets.
