I just got my insurance bill and its about $300 more a year than when i had my old car... the thing that i thought was interesting is that my wife drives a Jetta 2003 GLS and it's about $280 more than my rx8 a year to insure. When we bought the jetta it was like $8000 less than the rx8.
Also i noticed that rx8 in my insurance is labeled as a coupe and not a 4door.
I find it odd that an rx8 costs less to insure than a jetta. thought i'd share this info.

My insurance company (USAA) lists my 8 as a 2-door. Their system won't accept anything else.

Just switched insurance 'cause Nationwide pissed me off by raising our rates when they found out about a ticket my wife got this summer (first one in years).
It's the best thing that could have happened to me, because my insurance with the new company AIG is almost $1000 a year less.
To break it down:
All cars at 300K/300K bodily injury, 100K Property damage, 50K/100K uninsured motorist, $500 deductible for collision/comprehensive.
For 6 months:
2004 Mazda RX-8 GT - $306
2000 Isuzu Trooper Ltd - $254
1987 RX-7 TII (no collision) - $127
Grand total of $687 for three cars in San Antonio - I be one happy camper!
