OK, I've been trying to upload an avatar to my profile for a while now and I have been unsuccesful. It seems I can't get the picture small enough (I am aware of the size limits).

Question #1:
Is there an easy way to compress a picture so that it can be used as an avatar? Also, is an avatar a jpeg?

Question #2:
I've noticed that some people actually use much higher quality pictures in their signature. This is a very nice touch. How do you do this?

actually i prefer the yellow since thats the color of my car but it still doesnt do any good anyway because i cant get the damn thing to work anyway.

I used to own a 91 crx, it was the car that all my money went into and then i turned around and sold it for 2400 bucks just to get my self away from that money pit. Lets just say i put more into the car than i payed for the car and on a honda......what a waste.

my buddy had a 88 crx he dumped like 6k into and it looked sweet
when he was done

i paid 8.5k for this one if that gives you any hint as of to how much money i had dumped into mine. Keep in mind this is with very little engine mods, this was in my stereo and appearance days.

How about this? I cropped, sharpened and re-sized it to the 100 x 100 pixel size limit.

You need to upload your signature picture to webspace that allows picture linking to other websites like this one. Then in your signature space in your user control panel you'll type in
[ img ] http://www.hostname.com/signaturepicture.jpg [ / img ] without the spaces of course

Now how do you compress a picture to the 100x100 pixel format? I took a picture with my digital camera and used a photo manager to shrink the picture but it says it is still to large. What gives?

well even though you might have the size @100x100 there is still a chance that you have a very high resolution setting. this would definatly cause it to be a large file size regardless of actuall dimensions.

I think that may be the problem. My camera is too good I guess. :p I'll try setting the quality to the lowest setting and size...I still think that it will be too big though. I guess there is no way to compress a picture that is of higher quality?

well there is but usually you end up ruining the image quality unless you have some nice software to do the job like photoshop or something.

yeah they are somewere crammed in a box lost in the garage. i have moved twice in 2 years so a lot of things are buried. sometime i will have to dig them up and scan them.

the crx was black with yellow interior

my friends crx had a bodykit, shaved doors, sound system, custom interior, rims, lowered etc etc

the seats of my car rested on the wall that most of my stereo was mounted in. 156 db with 4 12" kicker subs 22 high end speakers and a measly 250watts worth of power.

I think I have it figured out. I just need to turn down my settings on my digital camera. I will take another picture of my car when the sun starts shining again. I'll pm you if I still can't get it.

This is the best I could do:

I am having the same problem.. I tried for over an hour to get images I had to go into my Avitar..--no luck--It states "image too large". I am not much of a computer guy, so I don't really know how to get the image to work. I will keep tabs on this post hoping I can learn the "hows" of getting the image you want. Thanks!
