Hey guys, new member here, just dropping in to say hi and get some pointers from current owners.

Im in the market for an RX-8 which I plan to purchase sometime this month. I have done some research to get a better idea what I am up for.

I will be looking at the 04-05 GT models with 20k-50k I just wanted some pointers on things to look out for when looking at and test driving the car. Are there things I should ask for? look for? listen for? I plan on having Mazda inspect the car before I make a purchase as well.

One final question is, does anyone now if Mazda offers extended warranty? as I will be looking to purchase a car with at least some warranty left and would look to extend it.

Thanks!

if the car still is under warrenty--- then you will be able to extend that warrenty. I think Mazda only offers the bumper to bumper for either 3 years or 60.000km, whatever comes first. You will have the powertain warrenty for upto 5 years or 100,000km and can extend it through Mazda.

One thing to remember, you warrenty starts from when the car was first put on the road--- ie, a 2005 may have been put on the road in Sept 2004, thus giving you the warrenty until sept 2009.

happy car shopping.... I just got mine a few weeks ago.

aha, thanks, I will probably opt for the extended powertrain warranty.

Also, is it important to buy the car with all the recalls already done? or is it easy enough to do them with the dealer myself?

As for common issues to look out for? leaky lights, leaky trunk? squeeks? rattles? anything specific to look for?

I think the re-calls would have to be done before they sell you the car--- expecially if you are getting it from a dealership. Copy down the VIN number and call mazda and inquire about the car--- they were able to give me service info etc-- so I knew the previous owner took car of the car. They can also tell you how much time you have left on your warrenty.

As for the common problems, take a read through the board, I have not had mine long enough to comment on it.

-Bumper to bumper warranty is 80,000kms or 3 years and powertrain is 100,000kms or 5 years

-Dont bother with an 04, got for an 05 as they are hovering at pretty close to the same price and upon resale, its much harder to sell the first model year of any car (especially an Rx-8)

-You can extend the bumper to bumper warranty up to a maximum of 6-8 years/160,000kms. Its about 2800 dollars +/- depending on our kilometers. Remember that u need to have full warranty for this to be possible

From Mazda's website:

The basic warranty for Mazda vehicles covers all parts found to be factory defective for 36 Months or 80,000 km (60,000 km for the B-Series), whichever comes first. Additional warranties cover Powertrain components for a period of 5 years or 100,000 km whichever comes first, body sheet metal perforation for 5 years and unlimited mileage and specific emission control components for up to 8 years or 128,000 km.

Hope that helps!

Man i feel like a total noob :icon_no2: (no offense to noobs intended or implied). Interesting how the dealer disagrees and told me 60K km.. I read the manual and booklets front to back, apparently I missed this!

Thanks :)
