View Full Version : Another member with the best looking wheels for our cars...
JantzenRX-8 03-08-2008, 12:03 AM So I finally picked myself up a set of RPF1's. I've wanted these since I first saw them on a titanium grey and thanks to Slalom29 I now have them. They are the typical 18x9.5 +45 set up with Bridgestone Potenza RE050A Pole Position 255/40/18 tires.
At first they rubbed real bad on the rear drivers side. I had to raise the back end up about a half inch and it seemed to do the trick.
I must say these are light-years better than stock. I'm not sure if the tires I had were stock (Dunlop SP Sport 8090) but they sure sucked. I never really felt completely comfortable driving fast in the rain with the stockies but I just got back from my first test drive in these and it was pouring! The car felt so planted and if I ever lost traction it was completely predictable and way more natural feeling. I have Tein Basics which are rather bone shaking at times but this wheel/tires combo completely settled them down. It's way more comfortable and the ride is a lot, and I mean, A LOT smoother.
Here are some pics. Thanks again Slalom29, great wheels/tires and great transaction.
Before. Not necessary but I like this pic.

I'll put up some more pics and have a little more feedback tommorrow. The weather is supposed to shape up so hopefully I can get a good drive in and some good pics.
flip702 03-08-2008, 12:05 AM nice wheels. congrats.

I knew that would yank somebody's chain :)
msenzo 03-08-2008, 12:57 AM I wouldn't say "best"
it looks good but definitely not the best, IMO!
bassy 03-08-2008, 07:19 PM Maybe "best looking" to you, but it ain't my cup of tea. The stock rims actually look even better to me...
Anyway, enjoy your rims.
TragicallyHip 03-08-2008, 07:27 PM Pretty soon those RPF1's are going to look like they are the stock rims for our cars! lol (Kidding ofcourse)
Grouch 03-08-2008, 09:14 PM I have these, from goodwin. I got the SBC finish, and I'm not big on the shiny stuff, but they're alright because it's a really dark shine, like gunmetal. And I find the regular silver color kinda like the beige that all computers used to be. it's just too common. Anyways, I have 275's on mine and suprisingly with my coilovers, they don't rub at all. My car is lowered but not so low that i cant stuff two fingers between the tire and the rim. They look pretty decent, but I bought them for 'best bang for the buck'.

what do you mean? i thought they were stock!
yale02 03-08-2008, 09:26 PM I like them, congrats!
midlifer 03-08-2008, 09:27 PM I'm sure this is a stupid question but was your 8 lowered when the rear was rubbing? I was thinking of 255/40/18 myself and I have 18X8.5 with a +44. my 8 is stock hight.

ocrapitzleon 03-08-2008, 09:59 PM looks real good
but i think those Advans and Volks really compliment those JDM cars
bigireland 03-08-2008, 10:14 PM I have these, from goodwin. I got the SBC finish
love these wheels.. ok, they don't look as good as work or volk wheels but i'll bet they're at least every bit as light while costing at least $100 less per wheel.. not to threadjack but grouch, could you please post pics of yours with the sbc finish.. i want to get them but i want to see them on a rx-8 first..
ocrapitzleon 03-08-2008, 10:17 PM i like the these Enkeis on S2Ks SLAMMED, sick..
VarneyMazda 03-08-2008, 10:18 PM looks real good

I totally agree, these are nice wheels but not unique everyone and their mother has them now. Very light though!!
NgoRX8 03-08-2008, 10:23 PM lol, congrats though, they are good autocrossing wheels.
kersh4w 03-08-2008, 11:26 PM I totally agree, these are nice wheels but not unique everyone and their mother has them now. Very light though!!
everyone has them because you cant beat their price/performance.
imagine a full turbo kit with everything you need, including guages, that was good for 350whp and cost only 2 grand. there'd be a lot more turbo 8s.
XDEEDUBBX 03-08-2008, 11:37 PM not the best wheels. the most common wheels...
Grouch 03-08-2008, 11:40 PM love these wheels.. ok, they don't look as good as work or volk wheels but i'll bet they're at least every bit as light while costing at least $100 less per wheel.. not to threadjack but grouch, could you please post pics of yours with the sbc finish.. i want to get them but i want to see them on a rx-8 first..
I liked the way they looked in the rpf1 thread, but those cars just look better than mine. I didn't get the centercaps so you can see a rusty hole. I like them because they're light, strong and race-proven. I'll see if I can get some pics soon and will post them or just send them to you.
JantzenRX-8 03-09-2008, 02:40 PM OK maybe not the BEST looking I agree. But for being lightweight, easy to find 9.5'' that fits, and cheap you cant go wrong. The Volks, Advans, Wed Sport etc look great and serve a purpose but it comes at a price... some at a rediculous price. But these are good all around so I'm happy.
midlifer - yes my car is lowered with Tein Basic coilovers. I can't remember but i think it's a 1.5'' max drop in the rear and i'd say i'm at 1'' now but i'm not really sure. I still rub a little but only in extreme situations. Is it wierd that i only rub on the rear drivers side? The back right didn't rub at all with the car dropped to the max. I'm thinking I may need to roll the ole fenders.
midlifer 03-09-2008, 03:52 PM Thanks man. They look good. I's all about how you like it also.

Lookin real good. And forget all those who says the RPF1 aren't that great performance-wise (for the looks, we can't judge, everybody have their own taste).
RPF1, 18X9.5: 18.6 lbs.
And the acclaimed Volk TE37 (one of my fav with the RPF1 BTW): 18.10 lbs.
Did I mention the Volk cost twice as much?
Great choice dude, and they look terrific on your car!

cool.. thanks.. been trying to catch a set of these in sbc on an 8 for bit now..
I have these wheels on my '05 Ti Gray too, and they are awesome! I love how the offset puts the edge of wheel perfectly flush with the edge of the fender.
thebiggdaddy 03-10-2008, 12:27 AM Looks good.
No the most common wheels are Axis Hiro's on the 8!
Throwdown 03-10-2008, 11:23 PM When I first opened the thread and saw the before picture of you car, I thought it was a goof thread. Anyways, good choice of wheels.
khronus79 03-11-2008, 09:46 PM Great choice of wheels, from a performance/price point of view these can't be beat, as far as looks, to each its own, I personally love how this wheels looks on the 8. There will always be someone with a negative comment regardless of what you do to your car, even if you got volks or bbs some1 will have something negative to say:icon_no2: . The important thing is that YOU love them on YOUR car.
