Looks like the driver side was not smashed as bad as the passenger side. Must have been the nasty rims.

The Police provided details of this accident, to STOMP today:
"We received a call today at about 1pm, about an accident involving a car that had ran onto the pavement along Yishun Avenue 1 toward Seletar Club Road.

"Four men in their early 20s were conveyed conscious to Changi General Hospital with abrasions and shoulder injuries. Investigations are on-going."

That's amazing. They went to the hospital conscious, with just abrasions and small wounds. I'm reconsidering my desire to sell this car...

Wrong! Drivers door is not usable. Singapore is RHD.

From the comments with the pictures it appears the driver could not handle a very smooth slight bend after a long straight and spun or drove into the median lost control upon hitting the inside curb with the car flipping over the outside guard rail. Missing the tree most likely made for minor instead of fatal injuries.

Impressive and surprising that all 4 men survived. Those airbags damn sure did their job.

The airbags are a very light red color. Fold the bag and give shade it will look like they are bloody.

Anyone know if the doors stayed close during the crash?

Hi guys,/ gals

I am new to the forum and own a Winning Blue RX-8 , When I saw the damage, at first it dawns on me that , how could an RX 8 crashed, Bad driving or bad car??

after reading furhter and giving myself back to some thoughts that i had recalled, i had remembered the RX 8 was overly made safe into the European market due to rear doors making the vast space therein.
Hence the doors hide tubular steel grids that protect the folks inside.
Hence it was not only the airbags but the rx 8 design itself that save those blokes.

Rx 8 is a great and safe car and this reflects better than any crash dummy test as this was the real deal done.

Tks to RX 8, and rotary rocks.

Oh my god that looks horrible. It's almost a miracle they all walked away from it, it looks like it wouldnt even hold 4 people in there anymore. It's either really lucky or the RX-8 is AMAZING.

Interesting. Here may be another reason why they survived and a clear Mazda RX-8 selling point.

The RX-8 did extremely well in "roll-over" accident tests. The Mazda RX-8 is safer than many people know.

From what I know being on a fire company in my town and owning an RX8, every accident is different. Crash tests are simulated conditions, not real life conditions, Many factors play a key role, the weight of passengers, the handing, the gross weight of vehicle, the speed, the quality of the tires, the weather conditions. The most important thing is, that an accident like that, they all are fine.

I bet that was a thrill to flip over like that.

BTW, I'd say the airbags are more of a salmon color up close....

Ugh, I hate it when Asians try to use slang/colloquial English.... it might freak us out to see this happen to an 8, but I'm pretty sure it wasn't a "freak" accident.

true, most people don't know that - but that article is about rollover *avoidance*, not rollover protection. this car rolled over. not to say the 8 doesn't do well IF it rolls over, I don't know, but that article is about how well it handles and it's low center of gravity, making it really hard to flip it. anyway.......

if you flip an rx-8, you deserve to die....

natural selection for a better species of drivers in the future

holy crap! just looked at the pictures.

the 2nd picture shows how well strong the core cabin is in the 8. you can see in the door, and the interior looks almost untouched, as far as intrusion goes. maintained shape/structure very well where it matters.

WOW :Eyecrazy:
It's Amazing that no one was killed in an accident like that.
That car was completely destroyed.
Guess they have to send a huge thank you to Mazda R & D Safety. :)

Thats a car? I thought its some junk yard pics !

Wow, they're alive ... wow ....

I bet its not a direct hit, if they hit a car or something Im pretty sure they're all dead.

at least it didn't catch fire.

Amen to that. That story still freaks me out.

As to this accident.. I know the pics look bad but remember the car is designed to deform in an accident, so forget all the front end damage.. Rollovers always look bad, but as long as the passenger compartment retains enough room for your body you will likely be fine as the actual impacts aren't very hard.

I would really like to see a picture of the driver's side showing the deformation of the roof (looks like the car landed on the drivers side edge of the roof after flipping), and how much space was left in the footwell. And they were damn lucky they didn't flip into that tree, cos it would have cut the car in half....

Airbags come in all sorts of colors. On the WRX they are white, pink, and green; don't ask how I know.

In an RX8, the type of accident I'd be most concerned about is side impact. Consider the door caving in and your hips being crushed between it and the trans tunnel... Ouch  I guess that's what all the reinforcement of the doors is for...

It's a well built car and they were lucky. A good combination.

What surprises me the most is that someone actually used their 8 to haul around 3 adult passengers!

I wonder if they use curbs on all their roads over there? That allows no room for error and would take just a split second of distraction to hit the curb and loose control like that.

Umm.. no :nono:

A split second of distraction would maybe have you run onto the curb and break a wheel and some suspension parts, not flip over the guard rail..

First of all, what business do you have getting distracted at the wheel

hahaha J/K
That really sucks, and i know from experience, I flipped a 05 SE-R Spec V. Very bad decision making on my part. :spank:
