Nismo 350Z is in BS.

306hp and 268lb/ft...with 90% torque at 2000rpm. 18x9 and 19x10 wheels (!!). And, a stiffer spring package than the track model...all sounds good.

But, 3350lbs (so, maybe 3250 prepped?) and almost 2" wider than the '8.

I know, let's give one to Carter and see what happens! :anger:

When we had the vote I said only if Carter is not allowed to drive one.... Somehow that did not make it into FasTrack, I will get a clarification printed next month. :yelrotflm

I'll tell you one thing...if the Nismo becomes "the" car for BS, we've just gone past AS in terms of "pay to play"...$40,000 for the car and $1400/set for tires...might as well go run SS in a C5 Z06 or Elise, it would be cheaper.

How does the Nismo's weight, wheel size, and power compare to, say, a BSP C4 Vette's?

I recognize that there are significant differences between the cars (like, say, a working diff), but I'm curious.

While I disagree with the decision, to play devil's advocate -- even if the Nismo ends up being a bit faster than the RX-8, it'll be a lot harder to get those times out of that big and powerful of a car than it is to get them out of the RX-8.

Well this sets the stage for the '09 RX-8 to be in BS...and possibly the future model with the 16X Renesis. :)

There is little worry re Carter getting a Nizmo Z ( unless as Mike suggests, someone gives him one).
We could be wrong, but still think the Z would make a nice FS car, particularly the Nizmo.

The Z doesn't fit the 'spirit' of the FS class. Carter proved it can compete in BS and it would be a shame if the car is ever moved.

so what class is the regular Z? I'm not familiar with US SCCA classifications.

295? I thought those were the 315/30's you said you were sure were going to fit?:yelrotflm

You guys try the MaxQ, yet?

I thought that the Z's biggest issue was that it couldn't get enough camber on the steer tires to make all that weight want to turn. I wonder if the Nismo version would be any different???

MaxQ not setup yet. My IT man ( Carter ) is a little slow and we may have a problem with my Pocket PC ( Dell Axim X51), haven't been able to download MaxQ program yet. Been concentrating on getting car ready for the Dixie, plenty of time later to crank up the Q.

I would not compare a stock car to an SP car. My AS L98 C4 did 233 hp and 322 tq (about 300 lbs of tq from 1800rpm on) at the wheels, 3210lbs. The C4 is also an A arm car, not a McCrutch car, so the front works better. On top of that the C4 has a working LSD with 9.5" wide wheels front and rear.
Move up to a LT4 vette and you are around 300 hp at the wheels and about the same tq as mine was, but further up the power band. You also get a 11" wide rear wheel. The down side, about 150lbs more weight and softer springs.

Has anyone shown the newer Z to be better than the older one that Carter did so well in?

Glen Austin has gone quickly in his Z...isn't it a newer model?

So Glen is in an '05 Track model?

Jim (tomsn16), will you and Carter be getting down in time to do the T&T on Friday? Looking forward to meeting a bunch on you guys in a few days...

We had a Nismo at our shop for a while....It was pretty impressive. They're special cars. Pulled from the line up and spot welded for rigidity and all that. It's more then just a pretty car. For sure someone is going to buy one, set it up for BS and then stick in a hotshoe for Nationals.

Still, the weight doesn't change and to me that's the RX8's biggest advantage. But yeah, that's definately a contender at the end of year in my book.

The Z's front suspension isn't McStruts.

+1 I saw the thread over on My350Z.com

I guess the main concerns stem from the 'feeling' that former Z models are now obsoleted in BS.

That could happen in 2009 and 2010 to RX-8 owners. :scared:

Exactly! And trust me, I will welcome that with open arms. My RX-8 is great as a daily driver, but I would love another 40-50hp and some more torque.

If they put the 16X in a light-weight 2 seater (next gen RX-7), then I may go that route next and give SS a try.
