yeah it was a good day. the to-do list is not all that bad. its all little stuff. compared to what we have done in the past, its really nothing. the biggest headache of that list is going to be the master. other then that its all stuff that can be done in one night.

hello all can anyone tell me if rotory motors need a thicker oil when we get higher in miles. I know its really good for piston motors.

i think it's the same regardless. seeing that the old girl needs to stay lubed
to help keep the engine cool, thats why we burn oil.

well right now I am running 5w30 but I know that like piston motors when they get to about 60k miles they go to something like 10w30

don't move up in grade, 5w20 or 5w30 should be fine.

So Stephs car is now has intake, headers, and exhaust.

And I have a cut on each hand and an elbow gouge. But I think the acetone bath and duct tape wrap will prevent a hospital trip. :)

Keep in mind we have oil injection. the oil injection is designed for a specific weight. if you thicken it up the oil injection will not be injecting the correct amount of oil anymore.

no honestly, the difference between 5-30 and 10-30 is likley not enough to make a problem, but still... I see no need. :)

So a Toyota engine takes VERY well to a couple mods.
That little thing picked up a lot more throttle response. According to the butt dyno, it added a little bit of power, but it kicks in the juice SO much quicker than before

Is Safari turning into Malware?
Users and tech pundits howl in outrage as Cupertino tries to push its Web browser onto Windows users, with Mozilla's CEO sniping that Apple's move "borders on malware distribution practices." Did Apple do wrong?

So here's what happened: Starting early last week, the Windows version of Apple software update application dutifully notified users that a new version of iTunes was available for download. Nothing strange there.

But tempers flared when users noticed that Apple Software Update had also teed up Safari 3.1 for installation, even on systems that didn't already have Safari installed. If you click "Install" without paying attention, you'll get Safari whether you want it or not.

The controversy peaked on Friday, when the CEO of Mozilla—the company that distributes the open-source Firefox Web browser—fired a warning shot at Apple for essentially pushing Safari on Windows users:

Apple has made it incredibly easy—the default, even—for users to install ride along software that they didn't ask for, and maybe didn't want. This is wrong, and borders on mal ware distribution practices.

It's wrong because it undermines the trust that we're all trying to build with users. Because it means that an update isn't just an update, but is maybe something more. Of course, Mozilla CEO John Lilly isn't exactly a neutral observer here. Firefox competes with Safari for browser market share, so any Safari loss due to the controversy would be Firefox's gain.

That said, he's onto something—but not for the reason he thinks he is.

On the one hand, I do think it is up to users to be aware of what they're installing. In this case, the Safari installation is listed right there in the Software Update window, and skipping Safari is a simple matter of clearing the checkbox. Clicking "Install" without a second thought is like signing a contract without reading it—and you're not dumb enough to do something like that, right? (Right?)

Nevertheless, Apple did cross the line here. Its crime? Getting caught acting like a typical tech company, not the friendly, enlightened—and most of all, trustworthy—entity played by Justin Long in those smug, annoying "Apple vs. PC" ads.

I'm sure there was a big debate about the little Safari checkbox at Apple HQ, and it appears that in the end, gaining a bit more market share was deemed worth any loss in user goodwill.

And hey, that's business. But if you mistake Apple for your warm, fuzzy buddy on the basis of those folksy TV commercials, well... get ready for disappointment.

Sad thing is, that 6800 has built-in GPS and high speed internet on Rev.A EVDO, but because that's the Verizon version, I'm willing to bet the guy who own's it doesn't have those features unlocked, and doesn't know you can unlock them already using Sprint software. It's a little tricky, but tons of people have done it already.

Here's a photo comparison of the 6800 and my new phone the 6900.
I went w/ the 6900 because it's smaller and has more memory, but it won't be on Verizon for another month.

So last month was slow. Not too much goin on. So I decided to go out and try to find some new business. And NOTHING happened last month. But it seems everyone hung on to my card, cuz this week has just lit up!!!!
It is nice to be doing a ton of business. It makes for better paychecks, and makes the boss man very happy. But it would be nice if the business was spread out over the month, not piled up on one week. I took this job because it was easy enough that I could take one day per week off, and still have weekends free as well.

The FCC auction was for the 700mhz bandwidth opened up because they are getting rid of analog TV.

They broke up the 700mhz into several blocks. "C" was the largest most coveted block, which would give the owner the largest consumer base to target.
The FCC made a rule, that the winner of the C-block would have to allow their network to be open to any device and any software.

Currently, in the US, companies have their network on lock down. You can't activate phone from other carriers.

Verizon/Sprint use CDMA technology (CMDA800/CDMA1900). ATT/T-Mobile use GSM (GSM850/GSM900/GSM1800/GSM1900). GSM phones can't work on CDMA, and vice-versa.
But, if you have a Sprint phone, you can't use it on Verizon even though it's the same technology because it's not Verizon's phone. Sprint is the same way about Verizon phones. All carriers in the US lock their phones so you can't take it to another network w/o some trouble to unlock it first.
Also, you should be able to buy a CDMA phone from a manufacturer and activate on the appropriate network, as you should w/ a GSM phone.
Problem is, Verizon/Sprint don't let you activate a phone on their network unless its their phone.
ATT/T-mobile are a little more liberal, and you can purchase a SIM card to use in an un-locked GSM phone you bought elsewhere but they have restrictions on software that could possibly run on it.

Basically the rule imposed regarding an Open Network means that I can buy any phone that works on 700mhz, and the C-Block owner has to let me activate it on their network.
BTW - That article is a little old, and the auction is over. As expected, Verizon won the auction for the C-block.

When the 700mhz goes live, the phone signal strength will be unstoppable. 700mhz penetrates obstacles much better, and will reach further than any other frequencies available now.

Cesaralaniz mentioned EVDO Rev.A which is currently the fastest mobile internet you can get at speeds of 600-1400Kbps download/350-500Kbps upload.
On the 700mhz it's probably going to be about the same, but w/ much better reach. People that have bad cell coverage now will have great coverage and high-speed internet.

Bottom line -
700mhz won't be live for a while since that last TV broadcast is scheduled for 2009.
When it does go live, the 2 big companies that bought most of the 700 spectrum (Verizon and ATT) will have better coverage.
As far as the open network thing goes, it's almost pointless, since Verizon already announced a while back they were opening their network up to any phone/software that runs on CDMA.

The good part about all is the Android project that Google is heading.
It's basically a new operating system for mobile devices that will be open license (anti-MS, anti-Apple).
All the major cell phone makers are behind the Android project and they will probably run Intel chips.
Android will produce awesome phones, and Verizon will have to let them run on 700mhz.

Cellular companies in the US are very backwards in their thinking, especially compared to the rest of the world.
It's similar to the thinking the phone company had a long time ago.
Most of you are too young to remember, but up until the 70's when the Gov't stepped in, you could not buy a phone from a store.
You had to rent your equipment from the phone company (AT&T).
Once they changed that law, phone sales went through the roof, and people just paid for the phone service and used whatever phone they wanted.
Cell phone companies are basically doing the same thing to us now.
They provide a service, but force us to use their equipment. It's like DirectTV telling you which TV you're allowed to use, or Chevron telling you which car you can drive. Who says communism is dead, just take a look at the cellphone industry in the US. :)

I've finally settled on the fact that the AFSC was a big waste of my day dreaming time, and I probably won't be going F/I ever.
Other superchargers are way more than I want to spend and I'm not interested in a turbo.
Besides, my wife gets a new Malibu in a couple months for work.
If I need something faster off the line than the 8, I'll just drive that car.

what doesn't it do is a better question. Hand held tuning device. Think of it as similar to an Int-X or E-manage only without all the hardware. You plug it in, load a map, unplug it. (plugs into OBD port)

What Does The Access Port Do?I sent my ecu to Racing Beat to get it re-flashed. They setup new maps for the Air/Fuel mixture and increased the Rev-limiter, and I believe they changed how soon the fans come on.
The AccessPort is a handheld device that does the same thing, but you can design the changes you want.
It's basically one of the greatest tools available for our cars right now.:)

Speed and I successfully ran the Miata at the Pro Solo this weekend. 12 laps of frustration and adrenaline. We definately drove the car to it's limits....now to get some more parts so we can increase that limit :)

So we finally got the exhaust on Stephs car all sorted out. We still need to do a 'custom' hammer job on the cat converter, but we finally diagnosed the rattling sound; Toyota seems to be a big fan of the heat shields, and they like to rattle.
But now her little car sounds ANGRY!!! Not loud and ricey, it actually sounds like the stock sound . . . just pissed off.

He's actually born in the US, and though his parents were from Mexico, he fought for the rights of American farm workers.

I beleive you Jake. I can imagine that it would be hard for someone who works in the car industry to not feel the pull of new cars. I had a friend who went through 13 cars in 8 months. Everytime I saw him he was pulling up in something new....he never could find something that he was happy/content with.
