Lets get the ball rolling.
We need a good range, preferably one that is free.
Raahauge's is $15 per person per hour per lane. That would add up really quickly.

If we can get an outdoor range where we can shoot water jugs, I will build a few appropriate bullets. (reloading is fun) And we can all bring some melons, those go up good. :)

where we go is free. its an open place to go shooting. neither of my spots are RX-8 friendly. so we would need some trucks. we have one. we can put up to 6 people in.

the way I owuld work it, is everyone meets up at my house. then we pile up and roll out from there.

I personally like to go "early" meaning leave my house by 7:30 or so. this is to beat the heat, and hopefuly to be one of the first ones. its kinda a first come first claim the teritory type of thing.

shotguns, hand guns, rifles. all a ton of fun.

start stocking up on that ammo. I'm open to set a date, but I can tell you thre will not be a good time for me untill June. (if yall are in a big hurry, then I might be able to squeeze it in sooner)

oh also, the way we usually do it.... since ammo is expensive. if your bringing guns and ammo then cool, feel free to shoot my stuff, I want to shoot yours to. (insert gay joke here). but if your just a shooter then try to do something to contribute. bring some snacks, some drinks, offer to help clean some guns, bring some clayor ammo, something. it doesnt take much.

We got a place that an RX8 can get to, but a lowered RX8 may have trouble. (My car with Tein springs does fine, as long as i drive slow)
But the dirt road is about 1/4 mile. So a truck to use as a shuttle would work out nicely.
I can volunteer my Hyundai as a transport car. (The Hyundai 4 door makes it easily)

I have plenty of guns. But we would need targets and bullets to make it happen.
Everyone start saving your milk containers, water bottles, old shaving cream cantainers . . . etc . . etc . . etc

I will build up some killer bullets to make some serious explosions hapen.
So bring your cameras :)

two liter bottles filled with water and add a drop of food coloring is an awesome target. (also works with smaller bottles. for the closer targets (or scoped rifles)

last time we brought about 15 phone books. those are fun as well. a shotty to a phone book in the air is pretty cool! we also lined up up to stop the bullets. fun to see which guns made it through the most.

They are not really 'exploding' bullets, as much as they are bullets made to do the most damage to a particular target.

Example:
My 300winmag puts out over 3500lb/ft of force at 100 yards.
But it penetrates over 40 inches with a full weight solid bullet.
So if the target is only12 inches thick (milk jug) it will not transfer all the energy to the target. Only about 1/5 of the power is used, the rest is lost.

But a bullet meant to kill a varmint is supposed to completely expand at about 9 inches. This will transfer almost 100% of the power to the target, making a much better explosion.


If we go, I will set up a few different styles and weights of bullets so everyone can see the difference they do. maybe we will have to bring a dozen melons to use as victims :)

OK here we go again. Dead battery, and I have been making sure i drive it at least once each weekend so it doesnt sit for 2 days. Something has to be draining the battery. Would a weak ground on the power to the amps being doing it? I am going to take the fuse out of the power line to the amps next weekend and see what happenes.

Any other suggestions as when it checked the system out all the componets on the car seem to be fine.

Hard to describe but i am running power from the battery down the sill of the doors to the amps in the pocket in my trunk. I believe i am grounding them on the frame behind the rear seats. It also has a remote turn on but maybe that is incorrectly wired?

Maybe go to a stereo shop and see if you can have one of the installers check your wiring. I'm sure you'll pay for their time, but it may be helpful to get another set of trained eyes on your setup to see if they see something you may be overlooking in all the times you've been trying to figure out where the problem is.

A Capacitor can short out. I don't know how comon that is as I'm not into the stereo thing.

You could have a perfect functional system with an internal short in the capacitor.

I like your idea about removing the fuse, that should answer alot of questions except a possible positive wire grounding out in the door sills or other location.

I also had a system with one little portion of exposed copper. Make sure your conduit is in good condition as well while you are trouble shooting your wiring.

Someone has to do this to the 8 for SSXI (12?) It is pretty cheap and would be the bomb (yes I said bomb) of the show. It would be even better if the car had a body kit. I wonder how you would dry it if it rained...and what about the freeway trip there.

MMO = Massively Multiplayer Online

And you're right, if they released Forza 4 so soon after 3, I would be shocked. The level of sophistication in modeling the cars in Forza 3 took ridiculously long, so theres no way Forza 4 could come out so soon.

A few websites got a hold of that story and believed it, until one website got an email from an insider saying that it was fake, backed up by other user's observations that some games were in the wrong categories.

In the past four days they have revealed the SSC Ultimate Aero, Spada Codatronca TS, Mosler MT900S, Gumpert Apollo, Spyker C8 Laviolette, Devon GTX, Joss T1, and the Rossion Q1 with only two more cars still shrouded in mystery. The last two cars fit very well with the phrase "last but not least" as they are nothing to sneeze at. The last two spy shots are tough, but I think they are definitely worth the discovery!

....now, off to Google images to catch a glimpse of some of these cars. I think I remember seeing the Gumpert on top gear...it was blue I think and was amazing.

Still hoping to get the Lexus supercar soon in one of these packs...that car on Top Gear a week or two back was just amazing.

Wowza indeed! I've never heard of half of those cars. Like you, I hope they include the LFA in this pack as that would make a pack even I would buy. I've been kicking around the idea of buying a couple of the older car packs, but it always seems like theres only a couple cars in each that I'd even be remotely interested in. Maybe when summer hits and school is out in a little over a month I'll take the plunge and buy a few packs - the first of which will likely be this supercar pack.

Ever since i was turned over to hardcore i've been doing only that - Hardcore HQ and Hardcore Team Death - iono, i kinda like the fact that when a bullet it's a guy in the chest...he dies - not like in regular when after getting hit w/a FAL bullet w/fmj at close range he'll sprint away eratically and camp some where until he catches some unsuspecting foe walking by - call me crazy :dunno:

I play with a few other locals too - when we get together we sometimes dabble in ground war or HC HQ pro.

Ever since i was turned over to hardcore i've been doing only that - Hardcore HQ and Hardcore Team Death - iono, i kinda like the fact that when a bullet it's a guy in the chest...he dies - not like in regular when after getting hit w/a FAL bullet w/fmj at close range he'll sprint away eratically and camp some where until he catches some unsuspecting foe walking by - call me crazy :dunno:

I play with a few other locals too - when we get together we sometimes dabble in ground war or HC HQ pro.HC TDM about 99% of the time.
My favorite weapons are noobtubes or the Magnum.

jedi: yeah man, iono, i guess i've always been hesitant about hitting a canyon at full pace w/other drivers - ever since my accident a while ago involving me n' some inexperienced asshole i've always been hesitant. :dunno:

First, thanks a ton to NGO for the ride, awesome car.

Also, considering how much I was bracing myself with my legs on alot of these shots, if it wasn't for how high speed the camera was or that I could just hold down the shutter button and it keep snapping so I can pic out the best ones in a series, I wouldnt have anything worth mentioning.

For this pic I was attempting to get a shot of some of the road down below that we had been on, and the camera focused on the guardrail for the shots. It caught this one though, and we were about 70mph, with the guard rail about 4 feet from the camera, zoom at maybe 200-230mm (70-300 is my lens range). And it picked up the detail of the bolt, rust, dirt, without hardly any blurring. I didn't realize how fast the camera was.

And the obligatory fail spotted. Yes, that wing is installed backwards, then tilted forward to the point it isn't generating lift. The trunk is wrinkled, the rear window tint covers the bottom 70% of the window, has wheel gap to challenge a lift kit, plus some other stuff people spotted. Wasn't going to waste much on it.

I cannot believe I didn't get busted by that cop. Someone mentioned there were two close calls but I only saw 1 cop during the whole run. I was in front, coming out of a corner in third gear at WOT and my radar detector went off all of a sudden so I spilled about 10mph before flying by the cop. I thought for sure at least someone was going to get pulled over, probably me. I kept checking my rear view mirror and he didn't even twitch; we sure got lucky.

Great looking shots guys wish i could have been there. I was running mahallond drive on my bicycle (102 miles 6000ft, 6 hr 40 mins) on Saturday went past our overlook vista and then came down a crazy road that i have never been on before, the cars would have a hard time going up it.

Today i went to fawnskin to plant some trees in burn areas (community service). drove up waterman to rim of the world and then over to bear eventually. I came back the same way and must have cought one of your cops because he turned around to give me a ticket for window tinting (i didnt even have current proof of innsurace and my tags are expired (April) and no front plate, but tinting)?! What was your run in like?

Speeddemon and I spent all day on Saturday with the motor swap on the super miata...my fingers and back are very sore. Next week it should be fired up.

you are running it next week in fontana? that is pretty cool to do a motor swap so fast and get it race ready.

Loren: sorry to hear about the ticket, that really sucks. You'll probably have to get the tint removed and then re-applied. :(

I think they swapped in a later model NC Miata engine with some sort of variable valve technology that originally they couldn't run because their standalone they had at the time wouldn't support it.

Next event is the last Sunday in May...so we still have some time to do the tuning portion.

We pulled the '99 engine out, and replaced it with the '01 engine because it has a VVT (Variable Valve Timing) system in it. Horse power gain is only slight. Prior to doing the swap and purchasing the engine, I had thought we would be gaining something like 30 hp...it is actually more like 10 hp...but with the VVT, we should be pulling stronger power and much more torque...which is very helpful with the type of 2nd and 3rd gear driving we do around the autocross courses.

We haven't been able to do this swap before, as you had to have a good engine management system....but now that the car has the AEM unit, we were freed up to make the jump to the '01.

The '99 is the most popular engine swap, as there are parts to allow you to make the conversion and retain stock wiring......so it was an easy engine to sell. Casey actually sold the engine for the same price he originally paid for it....and we found an incredible deal on the "01...and even after having it shipped from Canada, walked away with money in the pocket.

Scotty is going to help in setting the tune for the new engine, and in finding some dyno time to dial in some of the specifics.

Need for Speed on the iPad totally rocks. One of the first cars you can pick is a two-toned red & white RX-8 too! :). Lotsa fun....

Well he probebly turned around becase he thought I was speeding. After he figured out I was not speeding he probabely pulled me over becasue of my expired tags (April, still waiting for the new ones in the mail). Then when he got to my car he said it was becaseu of the window tinting (4.5 years and nothing, not too metnion i didnt have a front plate). He also asked if my tires rub, I said barely at all and then he let me go (not to mention i couldn't find a current proof of innsurance, 2009). My daughter was with me too, we had just finished planting trees in the forest (community service).

This happened about 2-3 miles from the bottom of the hill. This also could have been the same CHP that suddenly appereed behind me at Snow Valley and then followed me all the way to the damn in Big Bear where we went out seperate ways.

It is a fix it ticket and I am working on some ways to get it signed off.

Loren: hopefully you know someone who knows someone because having to get the tint removed and then re-applied would suck.

Lesper I hope it all goes well. I'm still surprised I haven't gotten pulled over. I've been driving a noisy red sports car for five years, one year with window tint, and all five without a front licesne plate and I've never had so much as catching the police's interest for more than 10 seconds. I'm sure I've had close calls and I know my day is coming, but I'm still surprised it hasn't happened yet.

ack.. sorry to hear about the ticket loren... i've heard that most tint shops give u a warranty- ie that if u get ticketed, they'll remove and reapply the tint free of charge. at least that's what i heard.

couldn't wake up for the sat meet, but went driving up tajunga canyon with the 626 guys. and, holy crap were there rocks. i was wincing all the way and down. my car took a beating. hopefully nothing broke underneath. :knock-on-wood:

the weather was great though. but, cuz it was mothers' day i had to split early. lotta bikers on the roads. even saw a guy on a scooter passing sport bikes. that was funny. hopefully one day i'll get proficient enough to go riding up there as well. but, we'll see... i'm only starting to go on the freeway for short spurts to get used to the wind and speed. it is a bit scary to me- but still excitingly fun...

oh, and i think i saw a maroon-colored rx-8 with scissor doors up in the canyons. custom paint job and doors obviously. anyone on the forum that we know?

Gerry i got an idea for you, for the next San Berdo meet drive out the night before and sleep in your car or at one of our houes. Sleeping in at home does not qualify as an excuess anymore.

hahahaha... i know, i know... :P i can wake up if i try really hard... i guess sometimes tho- it's just sheer laziness on the weekends. looks like it was a pretty good turnout though. i'll definitely go next time when everyone can make it... u guys prolly won't believe it... but, i actually went to bed Fri around 2:30/3:00 am and slept all the way thru until 6:15pm Sat... lol

the only reason i woke up was cuz one of my friends cars broke down over the Grape Vine and he kept calling me... <lol> but, i guess that i totally slept thru the intial calls. so, his wife ended up going to go rescue him... lol

Cesar, this would be the perfect time to find that video of me attacking that bee colony at my house. We had honey as well...

It surprised me when I tried calling bee keepers to see if they would like to come out and collect the bees and their queen...they wanted to charge me....I thought that they would have wanted them.

Oh well, bought four cans of wasp spray, got a chair, put on as much clothes as I could, covered my eyes, and went to town.

Do you guys know if it is free to park (for an extended period of time) at the turn outs in the Silverwood Lake area? The Tour of California (bike race) is goign through and I took tomorrow off to go watch.

Last Sunday I went hiking to the top of Cucamonga Peak (when in Rancho look north at it is the tallest viasble peak, Baldy is taller but in back) to prepare for my hike in Yosemite in three weeks.

The peak is 8859ft high and the trail had more snow then we thought but not enough to stop us. Finally near the top the trail was so covered over we had to go straight up (45 degrees). It actually turned out to be a better training trip then we thought because the snow melt in Yosemite is very slow this year with the amount of snow they had.

Well it is supposed to be a 6 hour hike but we took our time at the bottom because Mirna and the dogs were with us. We left them half way up to the mid point and then had lunch at Icehouse Saddle (half way). After that is where we hit the snow. Since we had to cross loose snow on an inline we took our time and then when we got to the peak switch backs it was just slow going since we went vertical instead. We all kept saying are we there yet should we just say we made it? Anyway from when we left the parking lot to when we got back it took just under 10 hours.

super miata is now tuned and running E85 fuel. I've never smelled the stuff. It has a very specific odor in the gas can, but turns interesting when burned and coming out the exhaust...no joke, the stuff smells like tequila...?

I think the super miata started out at about 120hp and 100 tq....and when I left, the last dyuno numbers were 149.6 hp and 125 tq. But what was cool was the torque curve...it was almost flat at 125 tq all the way through the power band....was similar in incline to the hp curve when the day started. Usable torque, increase in hp....should be super miata indeed.

OK so the car has been doign on since I took the main power fuse out for the stereo, so I am guessing it has to do with bad grouding. I will be on vacation next week so maybe I can look into it.

Loren: my guess is that your amp is drawing power. do you have it wired to an on/ off circuit somewhere?

ie; mine goes to the rear cigarette lighter since that only has power when the car key is turned to on.

if you're going straight to the battery and that's all, that might explain why your car is dead in the morning after not driving it a few days.
this could not have surfaced earlier since your battery was in better shape and was holding a charge better then it is now.

just a thought.

Did the super Miat race this weekend?
Super Miata will see some track time this Sunday in Fontana....been awhile since we have been at the speedway, last couple events have been down at El Toro.

This will be the first event with the new engine/tune, and incredible torque numbers. Hope we don't spin the rubber off the tires.

I did an overlay of the 99 engine dyno sheet. although its a nice gain, it shows that the 99 engine was a pretty strong one.
