ok, I know this definately isn't the FIRST rx8, but is it the first RX8 in the USA as this ebay seller states with vin# JM1FE173140100101

Hehehe I doubt it. Only two last digits doesn't matter. His car ends in 101, which more likely means the 101st car made for the US public. Never mind ones reserved for MNAO, Japan, publications, etc.

thats almost exactly what i told him, but he sent me back a snotty "car salesman" response saying it was. i was just wondering if anyone could tell me if their VIN was lower. a simple yes or no would suffice, i don't need anyone's actual VIN.

it's certainly the lowest VIN I've ever seen posted, but honestly, I think that's rather a DISADVANTAGE.
Wouldn't you think that a later built car is of better quality than an early one since the process is being improved?

This thread (http://www.rx8club.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=12965) has a LOT of VINs posted.

Wouldnt' the first one be worth more?

if you like to have problems, then it's worth more. I understand what you say, but in 12 months from now (November 2003), would you rather drive a 2004 RX-8 or a 2005 model?

Newer = better

(I still believe in the good :-) )

The last six numbers are the serial number, 100101, for whatever that is worth.
