if you are going to install the factory nav in your car expect to spend at least 3k.

its not even worth it. you can trade in your car and get the same car with nav for less.

i dont think thats worth it either though. if it were up to me, i'd just wire in a carputer and wire the screen to display an aftermarket gps.

that $1300 for the screen isnt a rip imo. its motorized and a direct factory replacement. you dont find many (or any other) motorized flip up screens for the 8. so mazda really has the market cornered.

You'll pay a dealer $2000+ for stock navi installation.

they won't even do it unless you ask for it before you buy the car :spank: :spank:

I doubt theres a car dealer in the nation that would pass up the chance to gouge customers.

he's right. they wont. they'll order a car with it for you. but they wont install it themselves. if they did for 2kish, they'd lose money.

My dealership does "after the fact" installations. Nav, moonroofs, and leather. Kinda neat. Still expensive.

I never wanted the base GPS, it sucks from what I hear. I bought a base (sport) 05 and will be installing a carputer with a transflective 7" screen. It won't be motorized but that doesnt bother me.

Look up transflective - it's the wave of the future for outdoor-use LCD's.

i'ts in the Electronics thread. nope, the nav rom only has the boot to load the disc. no app or driver to load mpeg2 or mpeg4 videos. Ultimate hack would be to reflash the eeprom to have it boot, or dual boot prompt(if space is available)... but that would require knowledge on the hardware/firmware :)

best o luck!
