Diamonds are a girls Best friend... I know of an excellent online company if interested...They also have a store in New York city. Bought my 2.10ct Diamond earrings from them. :) Excellent quality.

i'm trying to figure things out here too. my wife of 5+ years caught me quite by surprise because she had always told me in the 3+ years dating and then our marriage that she didn't really want jewelry or bags or anything like that.

well, in celebrating our 5 year not too long ago i came to find out she really does like getting jewelry and/or a handbag. i got her a diamond and sapphire necklace for our 5 year and is the only reason she finally let the cat out of the bag that all these years she really did want the jewelry. so now i'm up a creek without a Coach bag. hmmm.....

When we first started dating, I started giving Mrs. Tull gold charms for Valentine's Day. Sometimes as a little something extra on birthdays and Christmas as well- a stocking stuffer. But it's become a tradition now, our next anniversary will be our 21st and she has quite a collection of gold charms in her jewelry box. It's turned into a family heirloom of sorts and our daughter will inherit the whole shebang one day, when Mrs. Tull and I have departed this mortal coil.

After a few years it becomes a challenge to find something unique & not cheap. Every so often, give her a new gold bracelet or neck chain as well. Earings are in this same category. Valentine's is a "Hallmark holiday", but you still can't ignore it or you could find yourself sleeping on the couch.

Wow...I hate coming into these threads late...all the good stuff is already said.

I personally never have liked V-day as its just another excuse for commercialization. I too believe in the not being a mind reader part, but I can't stand it when anyone says one thing and means another. It pisses me off to no end, especially when I get chewed out because I'm not a mind reader...

But I digress...do something special on V-day, but make sure its an equal gesture. Its all well and good to give a one-sided gift on a b-day, but otherwise both should give something, because its only fair that way...

-Spinach salad and cocoa nib vinagrette
-Skirt steak with chocolate marinade
-Flourless Chocolate Orbit cake
-I was thinking Red Wine but maybe I'll switch to champagne and rasberries. Thoughts?

I'm also thinking I take her out for a drink after dinner if she wants to go out. She came home last night from shopping and said "I picked up something I can wear for valentines day." Which I hope means for my eyes only but if she's thinking to wear out I'm screwed. :uhh:

You wanna know what Im doing for my guy for V-day... Last night I told him I didnt want to see him anymore, he was a tool I was done with him.. I am still babysitting his dog while he is in LA on business though, and Im going to do a B&W pic of his dog and frame it for him.. We can still be friends.

My lady is flying in and we're going to Keystone. And then I'm going to the poor house.

wow, kinda messed up Pink. did you find out why he was being a tool? maybe something was going on. recommend you just give back the dog and make a clean break. very rarely will guys "just be friends" with someone they have dated. and then it is only after a long period. unless of course if you were only dating him less then a couple months, then its all good.

Im celebrating vday one day later...got tickets to the show We Will Rock You (it's like Mamma Mia but with Queen's songs instead of Abba's). Figure go to dinner first then head over to the show.

Mine went great! Jen made me breakfast in bed and the surprise swung by work with lunch.:) She's so great.

Dinner was received very well as were both sets of Jammies. Pictures will be coming...no none of those kind.:nono:

V-day went really well!

I threw a lasagna in the oven, we drank a bottle and a half of White Merlot, and finished it off with some chocolate covered strawberries. :)

I even caved and bought roses.

I'm glad you didn't say ALL women.... I am definitely not that way.

My husband and I were not that much into other holidays, but VD was the big one for us. We equally lavished gifts on each other. Since he died, I've been buying myself roses.

And the ring thing... we weren't into rings either... my "engagement ring" from him was the down-payment on my 2001 SVT Cobra convertible :)

Yeah Jen is the same way. She doesn't need expensive stuff. She likes it when I put in effort to do something nice.

Sometimes just buying something expensive would be easier :) but it really is the thought that counts with her.
