View Full Version : What happened to everyone?
English 10-30-2003, 08:02 PM I've noticed that the high numbers of online users I used to see on this forum have dropped. With increased speed in the servers and more cars on the road, I thought the online numbers would go through the roof. Is everyone out driving or are people going away from the site? Any mods with some neato statistics or dynos on the site that would care to share any info?
mikeb 10-30-2003, 08:06 PM I dont have any graphs
but I think some people dont like the rude and quick answers some forum members give out
Shane 10-30-2003, 08:09 PM Maybe most of us gave our cars back.......
klegg 10-30-2003, 08:13 PM Maybe some of us got tired of stalkers and death threats........BUT NOT ME! I have been on vacation to florida for the past 10 days, but now I am back, rested and tan, ready to battle trolls.
P00Man 10-30-2003, 08:16 PM i took a trip to europe for a week

mikeb 10-30-2003, 08:23 PM klegg, ready to battle trolls ---thats a good one
especially because have our members are trolls
I dont think people giving the 8 back has caused members to drop off because only like 5% brought the 8 back
Twin8s_babigirl 10-31-2003, 07:58 AM Another post for Dad... His account is still hosed. (Twin 8s!)
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
Maybe the problem is that some of the folks are having account problems similar to mine.
I have not been able to get on with my normal account (Twin 8s!) since 09-28. The site's page for forgotten passwords has never worked and I had to delete the account that had the data. My daughter's numbers are going up.... but I would like to be able to post under my own name.

Back to normal broadcasting ....
Shocka 10-31-2003, 09:12 AM personally i slowed down here because the same topics are being repeated too much
mpg issue, buyback issue, g35c/350z vs. rx-8,
i see its gettin better now though so i randomly pop in
Magnesium 10-31-2003, 09:22 AM I think that the decrease in numbers is due to most of the chatting was while the car was in limbo and not actually being delivered.
I still look in, but I work through the forums quite quickly now - looking for new stuff mostly or interesting bits.
But I'm still just as enthusiastic about the car and the forum.

i'm in the same boat as twin_8s. I have to log in about 15 times to post a reply.
LesPaul 10-31-2003, 09:47 AM Probably a combination of things. The trolls have been a problem, although the mods have done a great job keeping things to a simmer. I used to check two to three times a day, before delivery. Now I check a couple of times a week and usually just get aggrevated (unfounded criticisms, rehash of old news (use the search function!), "topic lines" that make no sense).
The main reason I check now is to follow canzoomer's progress.
I couldnt post at all for 2 weeks... I think a lot of people were in the same boat. I about gave up on the forum here for a different one, when all the sudden last night I was able to post.
Hopefully everyone is fixed or is being fixed up.

Tell your dad (or do it for him) to delete all cookies and temporary internet files. On windows it's in IE under tools, Internet options. On Mac's it is under Explorer or Safari or whatever preferences. This might help if it worked before and is not now.
Looks like a good number of members became active before the car hit the streets. Pre-order or what-not. A lot of pent-up enthusiasm. So a lot of members probably got their vehicles around the same time and since then have been exploring the issues. By now most of those are well-known and fewer new issues cropping up. Most questions I've had I've found answers by using the search engine.
Add to that the factor that novelty wear off in time even if it is a great car. More drivers as time goes on but maybe not as many new drivers as when delivery started. I think it stands to reason that the rate of new posts would slow over time. But it still looks pretty active to me as a newcomer.
myrx8 11-01-2003, 08:49 PM I think most people are starting to drive their cars alot more before the snows start coming in. Once that first snow hits, my RX8 is in the garage for the winter.
Until then, I am driving everywhere with it.

Fortunately the entire planet doesn't go into hibernation during a north american winter - although it seems certain people must believe that.
Can't imagine what it would be like to live in such climatic conditions. Winter to me generally means putting on a wet suit to go surfing.
myrx8 11-01-2003, 09:29 PM It is going to be getting down to near freezing tonight here in Kansas City..... I hope you get sunburned on the beach (Joke)
:D :D :D :D

Not even all of us here in North America do - some of us are more active discussing winter wheels and tires! Ski season should be opening in about 2 weeks (the local hill with 600 ft vertical, 5 minutes from my house, will open next week, the Banff area of Lake Louise should open in 2), so I need to test fit my skis (in the ski bag) through the pass through! I still ski on "antique" style skis - my newest pair are about 5 years old, length 195, and I have some 201s and 203s that still see regular duty!
Regards,
Gordon

I agree with that.
Sometimes I feel like I have to mentally prepare myself for all of the flaming that I will see when I log onto the site. It makes me not want to get envolved in any discussion on the forum sometimes.
Toadman 11-03-2003, 07:21 AM Ninedeep, can you provide an example of flaming? I think it's kept pretty clean.

*shrug* stick to the tech garage ;)
nah, the flames haven't been that bad IMO (it's just the net, we have to shrug it off) and use the Report button if it really bothers you.
mikeb 11-03-2003, 03:26 PM I would say the tech garage is the best for leaving out flame wars
everyone is really knowledgeable

That's about the same for me! Plus, I've been busy at work with no time to check in ...
;)
I still don't have my own ... yet (I've been waiting - and wanting one since I heard that the RX-Evolve was going to be made ...) I plan on trading in my 2003 MP5 in an other year or so for one ...
:D

I dont need to show any examples, you know what I am trying to say. Plus I will not single anyone out in efforts to keep this thread from going crazy too.;)
mikeb 11-03-2003, 07:42 PM good point ninedeep
if you cant see the flames you arent looking
Elara 11-03-2003, 09:25 PM If you guys think there are flames on here, you need to visit other forums more. This is one of the calmest places I've ever been. And please, if you think something is getting out of hand, why aren't you reporting it? We can't see everything, and we do our best to get rid of stuff when it's obviously bothering people, but we need help from you guys too.
Racer X-8 11-03-2003, 11:30 PM Tech garage is cool alrighty.
There is a bit of a lull in the action lately. That's ok though, cuz the troll wars of August/September was getting kind of rediculous. Now, we just have Ike. :p (Although, I'm positive he really wants an 8 more than anything in this whole wide world.)
Notable MIA's include 3-ROTOR (the fame must have gotten to him) & what's that japanese guy that, last time I read a post from him, he was gonna committ himself to the front steps of Mazda headquarters, until they answered his questions on the lost horsepower issue. Hey! Think he's still there?!?
klegg 11-04-2003, 02:21 PM Yup, without Ike it would be real quiet.........
