View Full Version : Factory HIDs on a NON HID CAR WORKS!!!
BigRed 01-27-2008, 03:35 PM I just installed OEM ballasts and bulbs and it works! I bought an adapter for the HID bulb on ebay to fit, but it still needed a little work. Ill get pics when I have more time, but this was a great solution for people who want quality ballasts at a low cost! Woot!
BTW, the lenses work fine. There is a clear horizon...

Great tip for people who has the GS, and not wanting crappy cut-offs on the aftermarket conversion kits out there.
dytrd5 01-27-2008, 03:48 PM I am glad that worked out for you, please post pics when you get a chance and thank you.
BigRed 01-27-2008, 04:12 PM I will probably do that tonight real quick... From my understanding, it has a clear horizon. Not sure what other people want out of it though.

lxlxlxl_saki_lxlxlxl 01-28-2008, 04:02 PM what you need to do this Bigred? how much it costs? how long it takes to install?
BigRed 01-28-2008, 05:17 PM it varies^ all you need are OEM ballasts, bulbs, bulb converters (d2s to h7 if i recall, or something like that), and some creative thinking.

looks good! now you need matching fogs! I bought LED H11's while i saved up enough to do my HID Fogs. But i couldnt stand the yellowness of the fogs with my HID's.
BigRed 01-29-2008, 08:29 PM I like the yellow fogs. it also penetrates through fog better :)
the HID Fogs are great in the fog as well! i have 6000K in the fogs and 6000k in the head lights.
flip702 01-29-2008, 10:29 PM Nice job... i guess "you've seen the light" now eh? ;)

OEM HID light temp is 4500K. Generally 4500k - 5000k. 6000k will look a bit whiter than OEM with a slight hint of blue, 8000K will look VERY blue, 10,000K - 12,000k is purple (more purple as you go up), etc.
You also loose light output higher up you go. Optimal output ranges between 4500k - 6000k. After 6000k it goes down from there.

Thats a misconception, yellow lights don't penetrate fog better. You only illuminate the road a bit better because of extra lights at a different angle. But you will get that effect no matter what color lights you have.
I do agree that yellow does work for fog but not in lights. This is how it works. The yellow color removes the blue color in fog (every color in the world comes down to only yellow, red, blue).
The reason why yellow lights don't work is because you are projecting the light outward. It doesn't filter anything out that way. What will work though is if you have glasses with yellow lenses. The yellow lens will filter out the blue pigments before they reach the rods and cones in your eyes. This will "cut" through the fog better than yellow lights.

i was referring to the actual install. i want something plug and play. no splicing, wiring, etc..
Shadow12one 02-06-2008, 01:16 AM Ah I see
WRXtoRX8 02-06-2008, 06:09 PM the link I posted is a plug and play. as far as the OP i think he had to purchase something extra from ebay to get it to work.
Eight 08-03-2008, 05:30 AM I'm planning on doing this mod with oem ballasts and I was wondering how bad the glare is.
I noticed the clear lines on the wall in the pictures, but there seems to be a slight glare right above the cut line, also, in the pictures from the front seemed to be giving off "some" glare.
I'm wondering if its a camera thing or can you pretty much sit infront of the car "at night" and not be blinded as i can do with my halogen.(dont do it literally) Just want to make sure since I've seen "hid conversion kit" converted car with oem projectors like on an integra or GMC suvs and they give of some eye killing glare.
Also wondering how you sealed the bulb to the headlight and the ballast, since with the oem hid assembly theres a plate that covers all the external parts and connections.
04RX8man 08-07-2008, 07:24 PM Personally I had 8000K and they are alot nicer looking than the OEM but then again i got a conversion kit but i'm glad this is working for ppl....
