Finally got around to shoot some exhaust videos of our cars.

Deedubbs Setup:

HKS Racing Suction Reloaded Intake
HKS Hi Power Single Side Exhaust
HKS Metal Catalyzer Resonated Mid Pipe

FE3P's Setup:

HKS Racing Suction Reloaded Intake
HKS Hi Power Single Side Exhaust
Stock Mid Pipe (for now LOL)

By watching these videos you can get a good idea of what the HKS Hi Power exhaust sounds like with or without the HKS Metal Catalyzer Mid Pipe.

I love how this exhaust gives a deep, resonating tone. My favorite exhaust there is, plus it looks good and is lightweight. Good stuff.

It will look bad if you don't change to a "single exit design" rear bumper. I considered this myself but I disliked the single tip with stock bumper.

I like the single exhaust (and it's lighter and has more straight flow, too) but not with the stock bumper. Looks like something is missing back there.

Yes I do get flames. But since the tip is titanium it doesnt get as hot as other tips. But it will flame under hard throttle.

With the Metal catalyzer it will be over the legal DB limit for sure, but to be quite honest with you, it's very streetable. It's only loud when your foot wants it to be loud.

the exhaust overtakes the sound of the intake, you can't hear the intake when you are in the cabin with either set up. from my experience.

u will throw a CEL with a midpipe unless you are tuned with it.

With the HKS combination there is no CEL. If you go with a different brand it will need an 02 fooler.

Nicw set up on both cars. Very diff. sounding tastes on both cars. Dee's car is a little too loud for me and FE39's sound's like my exhaust. Nice job on both.

its very driveable. I can still drive pass cops without any issues, you just have to use high gears..hahaha

You won't be able to judge how loud it is due to his intake. It is just as loud or louder.

Exactly. A DB meter can't tell the differance. It will only measure the total loudness of the car.

No, that will only give you idle and rev. No load condition.

Like in the video the car is under load but you hear both intake and exhaust. Therefore point it at the exhaust won't help.

FINE then, it'll give us a comparison of HKS vs Racing Beat as far as DB is concerned. My car up against Xdeedubbx's.

haha, i can already note that the hi-power alone was louder than my supercat+racingbeat setup, because i did the measuring. i need to meet up with bryan and hear this new thing in person.

comparison at the dyno...who kept the order list from our dyno day bak last year? i remember measuring the front (intake) and back (exhaust) of bryan's car and i'm sure the back was louder than the front.

that said, quieter intake will yield lower overall loudness than xdeedubbx's. how much?, little difference because of the difference in dB between intake and exhaust, and...

I'm thinking I might give it a try... Shouldnt loose too much if I decide I dont like it... and I'm thinking I might make a little money if I choose it and sell my RB (maybe). Only real downside is if it's too loud and I'm stuck with the resonator. How much would I expect to spend on a resonator/install? Very intrigued as to how the resonated supercat + single sounds.

that's a very nice focus... unfortunately I'm not a fan of the focus lol. (his is very nice, but I wouldnt buy it).

In car vid of yours is quite loud (bit more than I expected). Assuming windows were up since there was no wind noise. How did you do the filming (the camera looked rather high, just interested in how you mounted it).

It was shot with both windows up and down. I forget which part was which. I'm assuming the louder parts are with the windows down. The camera was suctioned from the glass sun roof. In person it's really not that loud but if your comparing with stock it's definetly louder.

btw that focus makes 460 whp.. it may not be your cup of tea but it caters to many. Keep in mind there are a lot of people out there that think the rx8 looks like ass haha

All I know is with CAI + unresonated RB test pipe + HKS Single = :banghead: :uhh: :yumyum: :eek: :crazy: :Eyecrazy: all at once when you pass 4k rpm. Below that it may be too loud for me for the given driving conditions - I echo off of anything around me. Surprisingly with windows up cruising on the freeway its livable, I kind of just feel bad for everyone else sometimes. Ordering the Apexi active silencer soon, should give back some low end torque and easy enough to take of for ::those:: times.

How does the exhaust note change through time? Within the first 150mi or so of mine it seems to have smoothed out quite a bit...

Haha, if you guys decide to dB test your cars, let me know, we'll see what a clear breathing renesis (short of muffler and header) will make... :D

The exhaust note mellowed out over time. It's a little quieter than the first day it was installed.

Don't have any info on hipermax II's nor do they make them for the rx8. The only ones that are out are the Hipermax II's and the Hipermax RS. Not including the Hipermax III's when and if they come out.

The exhaust note mellowed out over time. It's a little quieter than the first day it was installed.

Don't have any info on hipermax II's nor do they make them for the rx8. The only ones that are out are the Hipermax II's and the Hipermax RS. Not including the Hipermax III's when and if they come out.
