Although in hindsight this looks pretty silly, I would still like some feedback.

After sitting in the sun all day, my 8 was very warm inside. I had left a pack of gum in the car, which was very soft by then, so I decided to turn on the air and set the sticks in the vents. Note- I used to do this all the time in my Integra with no issues. Anyway, I hit a bump and one of the stick of gum fell behind the dash, above the radio. What I am wondering is if anyone thinks this may cause a future problem. I have no idea where it is. Will it mechanically impact the CD changer? Will it eventually melt and destroy something?

Also, does anyone know how to open things up to get back in there?

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

There has been at least one description of how to take apart the front panel. I don't remember exactly what it was in connection with but if you use Search, you can find it.

I don't know whether melting is a problem but I myself wouldn't want any foreign object in that area.

Good luck.

If the gum has sugar in it or a sugary coating I would be worried about ants. I left a couple of lemon drops in console once and came back the next day to a very impressive conga line of ants that came up the rear tire, over the suspension, along the undercarriage, up a body panel to the door and then into the car for their delicious lemon booty. Ants are amazing and if one scout ever finds your hidden treasure there may be a party soon after.

Nubo, you crack me up.:D

norcalrx8, would jdaled's posts and pictures in this thread (http://www.rx8club.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=13233) do you any good? Did it fall into the dash itself, or the vents? Perhaps take the dash off and retrieve the gum.

Thanks for the tips. I pulled the stereo out using the posted instructions on installing a MP3 player. No gum in site. It must have slide down the vent itself. Maybe I will try removing those, given the tip from elara. thanks again.

Maybe put some ant repellant down there... or employ an anteater as a precautionary measure... :D

how about fighting fire with fire..

put a glob of gum on the end of a long thread and draw that down the airvent.. then when it stops at the end, it will stick to the gumstick and you can draw it back out..

j/k of course...

Oh no! Perhaps it got sucked into the engine! You know the intake resonator that sucks hot air out of the cabin to warm the engine when it's cold ;-) Watch out for bubbles out the tail pipes!
