View Full Version : Don't Buy EA Games

I bought a game last night and it doesn't work. I don't know why the box claims that it should work on my computer fine. So I try to contact some support people....there was no support on the game web page so i finally just tried to contact EA general support. I got no response. I'm finally ticked off enough that I just try to uninstall the game it locks up and grinds away, somehow fragmenting 5% of my computers hard drive. Now i'm pissed and wanted to see what their guarantees were on their product. As i'm reading through the license and agreement (who doesn't skip those) i read, "EA WILL NOT PROVIDE SUPPORT FOR THE SOFTWARE. PLEASE DO NOT CALL OR SEND EMAIL TO EA CUSTOMER SUPPORT REGARDING THE SOFTWARE, AS EA WILL NOT BE ABLE TO ANSWER THESE INQUIRIES." "THE SOFTWARE IS PROVIDED “AS IS” WITHOUT ANY WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND.....AT ANY TIME, WITHOUT OBLIGATION TO ANYONE." Basically they don't care about their customers or even making their games run so I hope i've enlightened some people and you won't ever buy games from them!:banghead:

see, crap like this is why i don't buy PC games. i'm perfectly content to grab a PS3 game that i'm sure will work and play that instead.

i'm sure the same disclaimer is on other non-EA games and software in general.

you should get an xbox360 or ps3, lot less hassle that way

it blows, but i kinda feel EA on why they are doing this. Theres god knows how many combinations of factors like OS, driver, other software, registry etc that could cause problems. In a lot of cases even if you called tech support, theres probably not much they could have done anyways. :(

what game is it?

EA is a pretty bad company. They got sued by their employees a while back for requiring mandatory overtime, and then not paying for it. That said, tech support for most games (console or PC) are pretty spartan regardless of who makes them.

What game and what kind of PC do you have? Usually its your video card that keeps games from working, it might be time to upgrade.

I don't like consoles because I've already got a perfectly good computer, why would I want what is essentially the same thing, only in a completely proprietary format that cannot be upgraded a year down the road?

because it doesn't need to be upgraded a year down the road to keep it working ;)

Yea. Same here. I bought the Battlefield collection last year and I still can't get Battlefield: Vietman to work. If anybody can figure it out, it's theirs.

I actually love EA games.. They have all worked perfectly fine for me.. And man, I remember when The Sims came out.. My life revolved around that.. Sims 2 is pretty good too.. And you can't hate the NFS series. But I rarely play any PC games now..

I bought a couple of the SSX series snowboard games for the PS2. Fun at first, but got bored quickly.

All the old games will still work fine on an old PC, latest and greatest games need the latest and greatest hardware. The same is true of consoles (PS3 is dropping PS2 backwards compatibility to cut costs for example.) The advantage to a console is that the product life cycle of it is much longer. You can count on games 4 years down the road being compatible with your PS3. Of course, by that time hardware is now 5 times more powerful then what is in the PS3, and you don't get to see any shiny new lighting effects until you buy a PS4.

A PC is upgradeable, more flexible, more versatile, and can run at resolutions a PS3 can only fantasize about. I can also do other things then play games with my PC, and since I do regular upgrades anyways, it's not hard to keep my PC up to date for all the latest games I want to play.

I actually like maintaining computers though, so I clearly fall outside the target demographic for consoles.

actually, my PS3 (the 60 gig) does play all my PS2 and PS1 games. :) you just had to be smart enough when you got your PS3 to buy the one that was backwards compatible, like my wife did. :lol2:

I spent the $500 for a first gen PS3 on speakers and an LC7 for my 8 instead ;)

Sorry for taking awhile to repost. The game was the new Need For Speed, and although I still never heard back from tech support even with my follow up messages, I was able to fix it myself by removing one of my .dll files from Windows. Basically I just took important looking parts of the error message went to one of those tech forums were the guys like to try to figure out error message found one similar caused by a .dll file. Then went through and trial and errored them out of the windows folder. (As best i can figure my .dll file was to new or not compatible i'm not sure, but now Oblivion doesn't work I guess i'll have to put it back when I want to play that game.)

And in response to someone that said something like because of me their not supposed to buy EA games. I'm not telling you what to do i'm just telling of my experience so that others no they may take a risk that if the game doesn't run that you won't be hearing from them.

I don't like EA for a wide range of reasons (buying out NFL to make their competition worthless, buying out franchises and beating them to death with non-stop shitty rehashes, and treating their employees like trash just to name a few), but this really doesn't seem like a very convincing reason.
