How much did you bought your rx-8. I want to know the average price that everyone is getting so I'll back that up to a dealer. Going back again this wednesday to buy... W00t... Hopefully he'll give me a good price.

GT Pkg w/o Nav, plus rear spoiler and spare tire kit, $30754 before tax/title/tags. That's $1140 below MSRP. :D

No real frills just a great motor, suspension, trany, and a need for windy roads.

If you are a CostCo Member, go into any dealer (that has your car) and ask if they honor the "CostCo Discount". If they don't, make up some BS about how another dealer is going to honor the discount, but they won't have the model you want for another week or so.

Just ask if they will match their price, $1200 off the MSRP or something, that you will take the one on their lot.

The thing is, CostCo currently does not have a discount program for the RX8. But hell they don't know that.

This is how I did it.....

I got the discount because of 2 reasons. First, we had just bought a Mazda 6S for my wife (also had at a discount). Secondly, my company is a "Ford Partner" meaning I qualify for the Ford "X plan," or "S Plan" in Mazda's case. Although they wouldn't give me the S Plan price on the 8 (as they did on the 6S) they did give me a decent discount.

Best advice is to see if you qualify for the S Plan. Second best advice is to buy November or December, when car sales are slow and dealers are desperate to move some inventory. Alternatively, you could wait a year or two till the hot-newness of the 8 has worn off and the dealers are no longer demanding MSRP.

I'm thinking of using the S-Plan approach to get the car too but I'm not too excited about waiting that long. In your case, what kind of a discount were you given? How much did you push back on the S-Plan offer? I understand that the dealers are not obligated to honor the plan, but WTF is the plan good for then?

I got $1140 off of MSRP. The S-Plan is basically just invoice price and the dealer makes no money to speak of when they sell a car at this cost. I negotiated this by telling them I wasn't insisting on the S Plan per se, but more like the S-plan plus an adder for dealer profit.
