does anyone know the tribute use the same oil filter as the 8 i was told. so i can buy from after market and cheaper.

I don't know about the Tribute, but the Miata does use the exact same filter as the RX-8. PS, the oil filters sold by Mazda dealers in the US are among the best available, maybe the Purolator Pure One filter is better. Stick with the Mazda ones! Your oil system is not where you want to be saving a few pennies.
