i ask cause i never brought oil with me before but i've been reading the forum that i should with the rx8. non of my friends has any rotary engines, and none of them adds oil (aside from regular oil change). thanks for the info, i guess i need to start bringing oil with me.

You should keep a quart of oil in any car you drive, just like you should have a jack, in case you need to change a tire, jumper cables (which I still need to get for the 8) and paper towels to check the oil with. It never hurts to be prepared.

hell yeah it's the best place for it. also i forgot to mention earlier have a zip lock bag on hand. that way once open that quart, you can zip up the bottle in the bag so when you put the left over back in the trunk/pass thru pocket you wont have to worry about it leaking. :)

i check the level often enough that in i dont feel the need to tote a quart around in the car. if i go on a long trip i would probably bring it however.

I always keep coolant, brake fluid, oil, a jack, spare tire, bunjee cords, duct tape, a tool case, a cherry picker, and a rebuild kit wherever I go. The joys of driving an old rotary :)

I keep a case at home and 3qt at work. Icemastr, I know what you mean. My FD was a mobile service station.

i strapped my quart to the fix-a-flat kit...just give it some slack, then tighten the belt up after the quart is in.

TWO quarts will fit in the 'passthru' bin, and still lots of room for cloths, etc.

Here in oz most of the guys i know always keep lubricants rubbers and vegemite , heck you never know when you may get lucky .
And most people in america thought of vegemite as a food spread , used correctly it works better than VIAGRA.

mwa ha ha ha.

I keep a quart or two in my kit bag in the trunk. Also a tire plug kit with added pliers (to pull out the offending object), dikes (diagonal cutters for the non-EE types), and mechanix gloves to keep from burning the crap out of my hands when checking the oil.

And for those not familiar with acronyms..

EE==Electrical Engineer.

Wiring monkeys use them a lot.

Well, of course you can always pick up a quart of grossly-overpriced 10w30 at a service station so it's rarely a survival issue. As long as you check the level frequently you really shouldn't ever be too surprised. If you suddenly find yourself 2 quarts low with 150 miles to a station something is really wrong.

But if you want to stick to the brand and weight of your choice then carry a quart or two. Especially if you're going cross-country.

Wow! I've been driving hard and even did an autox today.

Two quarts in the rear compartment (pass through), and not a sound at all!
