Trying to find it but its kinda hard ... yeah I googled.

Found 1 selling on Ebay. Is this thing even out yet? The seller on the listing saids it will be here as soon as ACT is ready ???

1 more thing, It will work with FW thats NOT from ACT right? cuz I already have Fidanza ... I dont want to toss it :)

Huh? All the counterweights are the same.

They are the balancer for the FD automatic transmission.

Well, the balanceweight that mazda sells are couple oz off I think. CW03 is for Rx8, CW02 for Rx7

I mean I already have a Mazda counterweight for my Fidanza, people have no problem using it including myself.

but this time I wanna make everything perfect thats why I want to get this CW.

Call up titanmotorsports.com and ask for Geoff. I bought the prolite and ACT's counterweight from them. I didn't want to risk any issues by saving $10 and getting a rx-7 automatic counterweight instead of the counterweight made for this flywheel.

Yeah but the thing is that the counterweight is balanced to the internal engine balancer, it has nothing to do at all with the flywheel.

It needs to be the same weight for all applications. If one company is shaving weight off then they are making it wrong.

Chances are the scales they used are different if one company is reporting differences in weight.

You can use any counterweight with any flywheel. they are in no way related to each other.

Heck, I'm even using an FD flywheel in my rx8.

If your seeing different part numbers, its because they just choose to change them so that people won't get confused with getting the same part number as an rx7.

What I'm basically trying to say in all this, is that you should look for the cheapest counterweight you can find. They are all physically the same.

If one company is selling a "special rx8 version" or "special xxxx flywheel version" then they are just renaming the old part so they can mark it up in price.

CW03 coming to my home by friday, if not by next monday ~~~

We have used both the ACT counterweight and the stock auto counterweight. Both of them work. Before ACT started selling one I was selling the stock auto weight with the flywheel. Just make sure you are getting the one for the RX-8 and you are fine.

stock one is drilled also.

Each one is cast slightly differently, so they put each one on a balancing machine and subtract weight from the location that will make the balance correct. The location of the drill holes should be different for each piece seeing as casting will not always produce the perfectly balanced piece.

On both the rx7 and the rx8 the rotors are offset 180 degrees so rotor location isn't a factor that would explain the location difference.

For example, mine is drilled with 2 holes more toward the center of the indentation.

This is ACT's CW03 Counterweight.

I checked it with another scale at the post office, it might be on the edge of 3 lbs and 7.10oz, cuz I see the nubmers flipping to 7.09oz and back to 7.10, the electric scale in picture shows 7.10 steady.

Same as the ACT , around 3 lbs. Pretty hefty


To be honest you get more weight savings from a lightweight clutch due to its higher moment of inertia (clutch's mass is father out than a flywheel's).

As an added bonus by just replacing the clutch you don't have to deal with the 56mm (If I remember correctly) nut and removing the flywheel.

Imagine holding a gallon of water to your chest and spinning around. Its pretty hefty but since its close to your body its easy to spin. Now hold the gallon of water at arm's length and try and spin around. MUCH more difficult by simply changing the position of the weight.

In essence the flywheel's mass is located around the friction surface and on the mounting area (center mass), whereas the clutch's main mass is a huge ring at virtually the farthest point from the center. So lightening the clutch will have a much more profound effect than similar lightening of the flywheel

So therefore making the car fastEWR!!!!!!!
