dothackRAVE 12-31-2007, 03:49 AM Why won't people just provide the answer? :p
I personally don't know what that is. Just wanted to vent.

StealthTL 12-31-2007, 09:59 AM Pumps air into the exhaust at warm-up, to light off the catalyst as quick as possible.
Sounds like one of those Dustbuster vacuums - if you hear it run for more than one minute at startup, there could be a problem.

(trivia - look at the sign on the wiring connector - check out who made the pump?)
The Drunk IT Guy 12-31-2007, 10:21 AM heyarnold69 I knew someone would say it.. BTW, that was the one Nicktoon I hated as a kid, I likes most of the others..
Oh, and my contribution:
You put your weed in there, man...
gregger 01-01-2008, 06:40 PM so does anyone really know what it is or just guessing is there any website i can look this up with a full read out of parts or just going by what i think it is? so far the winner is air pump. lol.
Mazurfer 01-01-2008, 06:49 PM That's what it is....the air pump.
Did you not click on the attachment in the 2nd reply from Spin9k that explained what it was?
And.....StealthTL also told you what it was and what it does.
Spin9k 01-01-2008, 06:49 PM If you don't believe what people tell you and show you, why did you bother to ask in the 1st place? :icon_no2:
whitebeau 01-01-2008, 07:18 PM thanks stealthTL & Spink9k. interesting and good to know

I knew it was an air pump but I had no idea what it was for.
What exactly do you mean by "light off the cat" ?
alnielsen 01-01-2008, 08:17 PM I knew it was an air pump but I had no idea what it was for.
What exactly do you mean by "light off the cat" ?It takes a couple of minutes for the cat to get to operating temperature. Until that time, pollutants flow past. The air pump sends regular air into the exhaust stream. This speeds up the heating process in the cat and cuts the time when it isn't operational.
turborx8 01-01-2008, 08:44 PM Now it makes sense. It speeds up the time it takes for the cat to warm up.
Cool, thanks!
turborx8 01-02-2008, 12:40 AM Is there an advantage to unplug the air pump?
I read somewhere that a guy disconnected it on purpose but never said why.

My guess would be if you had a catless midpipe you would'nt need one.
