View Full Version : advise from an EX office about speeding...
well i am 20 years old and I am asian, automatically we are trouble makers. Criminal like and everything... but right...
I just want to know what excuses people have used to get out of speeding tickets.. this will help everyone in the site. No matter how stupid it might sound, type it up and let us be the judge to know if its useful or not. The worse we can get is get the ticket anyways... (of course dun aggrevate the officer.. or else you get charged for stuff liek turning on the fog lamps LIKE I DID)
but I am goin gto
this worked for me, everytime they pull me over (3 times already), I will be super coorperative and just kindly ask him what offense I committed. Well an idiot would say that you are speeding espucally you are driving in an 8, even if you are going 5 mph over the limit.
I learnt these information from a book written by a ex police officer, and as I have said before, this might sound stupid to you but its still words that come from a vetrian officer.
First thing, he said that you should first ask the officer what offense you committed and should not admit to your offense before he says anything. IE, dun say I wasn;t speeding..
Anyhow, he will tell you that you are speeding and all, and you reply is at what speed exactly are you travelling at and ask if you can look at the reading on his device (I thought this sounds stupid but he said you should do so, at least you know that he had you on radar for sure.) if he doesn;t let you, then you should report this to the judge. You have the right to be look at the evdience and if he doesn;t show you, its his fault.
well he said excuse are not welcome, but there are few that made a difference to him.
1) sad that you are having a new born baby and that increase insurance charge will make a difference to you and your family (well driving the 8.... right...)
2) say your past relative passed away
3) you have a terminal disease
I dun think these are great excuses.. but that;s waht he said
this defintely wokred for me, I just cooperate and do whatever he wants.. and when the tension is over I will try to talk to him and sooth the tension.. this works very well... I think
cause lsat time I got a 70 in a 30 zone and a smile on my face made him change it to 60 in a 30 zone and he checked clock not radar...
good luck on the road!!

"Really, I find that interesting, given that my sister has cancer. Here's you ticket, with an additional charge of reckless driving. Also, please step out of the car so I can test you for alcohol, and I'm gonna call for backup and do a full search of your car."
tribal azn2 10-26-2003, 02:33 AM 1. im asian too. i speed like crazy. have never been stoped once, drove a thugged out bmw with clears all around, and now a rx8 with clears and no front plate. never been stopped. asians arent really seen as trouble makers unless your driving some riced out civic with a bumblee bee exhuast
2. if your gonna speed then dont get caught
3. get a radar detector, either a V1 or 8500.
4. http://www.ticketassassin.com/
first, I said that I am just posting excuses for the better of other members. If you have one that works, share it, why not.
19 year old asians are seen as trouble makers? Really? you sure? I am asian myself, you think I will take crap about my own race? ok
If you are an officer, you pull over a car that you think was speeding. If he was 19 year old, there is every reason to issue him a ticket... period. Adults tend to get away more easily...
everyone speeds, I there is not one that owns an 8 and doesn't speed.
2. if your gonna speed then dont get caught
ok I will do that

Yeah, either a gang banger or Yakuza. LMAO
We asians are also supposed to be intelligent. You know, get an asian in your Calculus class and there goes the grade curve.
Here's a few I've been able to use to get me out of some points and fine$.
1. If I get pulled over for speeding and my wife is with me... I have her point her finger at me and shake it vigorously at me while the officer is behind me... when he comes to the window, I roll it down and had the saddest look on my face while my wife is chewing my ass out. Hopefully, the officer can "relate" and let me off with a warning. This has worked 2 out of 3 times.
2. If I am alone in the car, I just make a really distorted face and tell the officer that I have a nasty stomach flu and need to get to a bathroom before I soil myself and my car seat. This has worked once in the 4 times I've used it.... maybe I should get a can of "ASS GAS in a CAN".
3. I was trying to get home in time to catch "Miami Vice". Oh wait... they pulled that show off the air. How about... CSI or Law & Order... maybe RENO 911.
Peace
:D

I don't think being nice is the key, because I think most people try that approach. I am going to try the idea of asking to see the radar. I don't if that will get someone off or not. Otherwise, I have no ideas.
rabinabo 10-26-2003, 01:35 PM Yeah, ticketassassin.com is a pretty good source of info for CA drivers. If I remember correctly you can get three shots at getting your ticket removed by doing submitting your case by mail. They also have a thing that you can print out giving advice about what to do when you're pulled over by a cop.
The last time I got pulled over was in Arizona. I'd just been driving 6 hours from Cali, so I was a bit tired (and speeding a bit). I was curious so I asked him how he measured my speed (he paced me), so I asked him what distance AZ law requires for cops to pace someone. He told me (half block), but he was angry that I'd asked. He even said that I'd raised my voice at him, but I was perfectly calm. He didn't give me a ticket, but it was pretty annoying.
My view is that cops know the laws much better than your average driver and that part of their duty is to inform the public about the law and their rights. Cops always try to get you to admit your violation (don't ever do it), and they give you some bull story that if you fess up they'll just give you a warning. Don't let them intimidate you.
StealthTL 10-26-2003, 02:03 PM I too have never had much luck with cops. I have a face that says "check me good, I just got out of jail!"
Well over 50 years old, I had 13 demerits on my licence for the whole decade of the '80s! So when I tell you I've had good luck with only one 'plea', you can take it for what it is worth....
90 mph in my Legend, saw the cop and braked quick, but not quick enough.....he does his 'cherry topped 180' and the game is on - I pull over when he's still about a block back, wind down window, have the docs in my hand by the time he is at the door,
"Damn, I KNEW I was going too fast, I figured it was better to pass that old truck quickly, it was dropping crap in the road, so I booted it and I KNEW it was a mistake as soon as I saw you there - STOOOPID thing to do, stupid, stupid, etc. etc."
The nice young RCMP cop (you think YOU gots some hard asses, let ME tell ya....!) is 'disarmed' by this.
(I am driving a 'riced out' bright yellow legend, with a 5" fart can on the back, and don't forget, I look like I just got my day-parole pass!)
"Oh, err, O.K., well I clocked you at 79 in a 60, but I'll give you a break....." and brings me back a ticket for '5 over'..... a $50 fine!
It really doesn't matter what you say, if you insist you are not guilty, they feel obliged to stick it to you, and if you admit guilt and say it was all your stupid fault you may have a lot more luck when you go to one of these ex-cop 'ticket fixer' guys to get it reduced (like I did...) they just said, "$50, not worth the time" and dropped the whole ticket, NO FINE, NO POINTS.....
Acting insulted and demanding to see his radar evidence is as good as calling him a liar, and, as a certain 'DR. Phil' would say, "How's that WORKING for ya?" Good luck asking for THAT one to be 'forgotten'!
Enough painful memories...

English 10-26-2003, 02:15 PM 70 in a 30? Automatic ticket....No debate room at all. 53 in a 40....well, let's talk.
I just picked up a radar detector for those in-between type situations....maybe it will give me enough of a heads-up to get to a lower speed. There's just no hope if you're really hauling ass and get busted. Just take your licks, and don't forget to thank the nice officer. Ha!
rxtreme 10-26-2003, 02:54 PM I got a 83 in a 55. Here in Virginia, that's reckless driving. I have yet to go to court for this offense, but I'm a little worried because in VA Beach they go crazy over speeders and other traffic offenders. I was real polite with the officer that pulled me over and admitted to nothing. After asking him how fast he got me for, I replied; "I don't think I was going that fast".
As I said, I was real polite. I could tell the officer was really pissed so I said nothing else. A couple of weeks later, though, I contacted the officer and spoke with him about my ticket and charge of reckless driving and simply stated that I really think the charge is a big mistake(which I was sincere about), how much it could hurt my career, etc. and he said I had nothing to worry about and that I should be "pleasently surprised" when I go to court. I don't know if I should believe him or not, but he seemed sincere and contacting and talking with him one on one may make a difference. Because of the serious of reckless driving, I may still get a lawyer, but I feel a little better talking to the officer.

The advice I have been given is not simply to cooperate, but to make life easy for the officer. Bear in mind that they face danger with every traffic stop. Not being able to see into the vehicle raises their apprehension level. Advise against heavy window-tinting; what are you trying to hide? For all the officer knows - a weapon. Along the same lines, if you get pulled over, once you have the vehicle safely stopped, turn on your interior lights. Be considerate and they may be considerate in return. If you were seriously speeding don't bother with excuses unless you were genuinely in a life or death situation.
As a more remote possibility, I was told that if the trooper is not wearing his hat - ask "where's your hat". Supposedly this constitutes being "out of uniform" and he may let you off with a warning. I have NOT tried this! As far as I'm concerned, if I was the trooper I'd definitely cite you for being a smart ass :)
The 2nd "excuse" anecdote I have is from a relative who was pulled over. She was quite pregnant and without thinking matters through, claimed to the officer that she was in labor and had to get to the hospital. The officer offered to escort her to the hospital. Oops!. As they made their way down the highway she waited until he'd passed the exit ramp and she made a hard exit and lost herself in the side streets. I certainly would not recommend this tactic, but it is funny as hell. :p
MazdaManiac 10-27-2003, 12:55 AM This applies to Maryland. All details may not apply where you live.
As soon as you are stopped, immediately turn on your dome light, turn off the ignition, put the keys up on top the dash where they are visible and put your hands on top of the wheel. Don't go for your license and registration yet.
There is a good possibility that he might ask you why you put your keys on the dash. Tell him you have a cousin "on the job" somewhere and he told you to do that.
Don't say ANYTHING to the cop and keep any answers to any questions down to a minimum. Don't admit to anything but don't argue.
Don't do ANYTING to make yourself remarkable in any way.
If he doesn't let you go because you have a cousin on the force somewhere, take the ticket and be absolutely CERTAIN you know the cop's NAME and can recognize him on site.
When the fine is issued and the due date is past, you get a court date. When it is two weeks or so before the date, go to the court clerk and ask for a continuance. You will get it automatically. Show up at that new court date and see if the cop shows up. If not, sit in court and wait for your name to be called. When it is, your case will be dissmissed because the state lacks a witness (the cop).
If you aren't certain that the cop isn't there, wait for your cop to be called to the stand for his series of tickets. If he comes up, don't go up when they call your name. You will be FTA'ed (Fail To Appear) and your license will be flagged for suspension. Don't worry. Just apply for a new court date at the clerk and you will be given one without the suspension.
Try your luck at that date.
When you get to court this last time (and if the cop is present), approach the state prosecutor BEFORE the trial and try to work out a deal. If you have a clean driving record, you can often get probation before judgement as a recommendation.
If not, try your luck with the judge for the same.
If your license is already FUBAR, just try driving the limit for three years. :(
I have received 7 tickets in the last two years (always in a vehicle that is not mine and my detector was in my car - which was parked somewhere - bad move for me) and this has worked at every trial. I have received 2 PBJs and the rest were dismissed because the cop was FTA.
I have had NO convictions on my license in 7 years because of this.
Use the Escort 8500 unfailingly and you will increase your chances of not being stopped 1000 fold. at LEAST. I go through up to three speed traps per DAY and it has cought ALL of them (including LASER) way before I can even see the trap. Here in Montgomery County, the cops have a LOT of money and almost all of the traps are LASER now.
I speed getting out of my driveway :D and I regularly spend most of my highway miles at speeds over 90 MPH. The city miles are usually at 15 to 25 MPH over the posted limits.
Of course, everyone else on the road is doing the same, so I don't stand out. That is really the key.
desmo996 10-27-2003, 07:16 AM They pulled me over for 145 Mph in a 45 speed limit (Rural roads outside Ocala, Florida 07:30 Sunday) on my bike. Got away for a while, but the road block did not help. Sweet talked the cop into a "not obeying a traffic control device (Speed limit sign)", because he did lose sight of me for 15 min. Hired an attorney and managed to drop the ticket. I didn't even have to pay the fine. I was extremely lucky. Bottom line: If everything else fails, get an attorney.
RotaryStalker 10-27-2003, 07:53 AM Always pull over to an area that is safest for the officer to deal with you. They will appreciate this... Don't take 5 minutes finding the right area... just pick a good spot and pull as far off the road as possible.
Be polite.. accept your guilt if you know you were speeding. Got pulled over for 88 in a 70 in my 928 and told him I knew I was speeding but was late for a meeting.. He let me off with a warning. I also noted his name on his badge and used it when addressing him..
If that fails have the wife show a little cleavage...

o_town_racer 11-05-2003, 02:14 PM Just thought I'd share a recent story of mine. I was going to a Corvette Club mtg. just off Maitland Blvd around 7:15 pm in my '99 C5 a couple of months ago. The exit ramp from I-4 to Maitland Blvd West sucks. It drops you into a turn lane, so you immediately have to go over a lane or two to go straight. As I was in the Vette, I just gave her a little gas as I was coming off of the ramp. I know I was going fast (I believe the speed limit is 45), at least 70. Anyway, I'm stopped at a light a couple traffic signals down and it turns green. I happen to look in my rear view mirror and see a cop turn on his lights. I immediately pulled off of the road (it's 3 lanes each way, so I pulled way off) giving him plenty of room to walk up to the car without danger of him getting tagged by oncoming traffic. I shut off the car, rolled down the window, and had my drivers license and insurance card ready. I had already started the search for my registration (it's always in there somewhere...). He walks up and asks me if I knew how fast I was going. I answered honestly...."not exactly officer....I'm terribly sorry officer...I was probably going too fast....just got going a little fast as I merged into traffic...on my way to a Corvette Club mtg". My Vette has a Corsa Indy exhaust...and it's LOUD. He probably heard me accelerate more than he saw me. Anyway, I give him my documents and tell him I need to dig for the registration. He tells me "no problem" and walks back to his car. I find the registration and wait for him to return. He comes back, I show him the registration, but he says it's OK and hands me back my documents. He steps back to take a better look at the car and asks "Is this a new car? Did you just get it?" and I replied "No sir officer. It's a '99 and I bought it back then." He walks back to the window and says "Just try to keep it under the speed limit in the future. Drive safely." I say "YES SIR. Thank you officer!" BTW, I did have my Escort Passport 8500 turned on and it didn't make a peep. Therefore I deduced that he was probably going the other direction and saw/heard me zoom by, but didn't get a radar reading nor did he pace me (as he caught up to me while I was stopped at a light). Since I didn't incriminate myself and was polite and considerate, I guess he decided to give me a break. This was my first traffic stop in about 10 years, so I was a little shaken. Moral of this story: It pays to be polite to the man who writes the tickets.
mikeb 11-05-2003, 03:11 PM I agree being polite helps but sometimes they just dont care and are ticket happy

So true!
Jhouse 11-05-2003, 06:29 PM i got nailed in my crx doing 78 in a 35. needles to say i was already a target in that town just because of the cars appearance. I was headed down a big hill had 3rd gear pegged and noticed a cop out of the corner of my eye hiding behind a church. i skidded my car to a stop right in middle of the road. the cop pulled up behind me and got on his bull horn and told me to get out of the road. i pulled of the road and the cop said, " well i guess you know why i'm here." i was a smart ass and i said," no could you tell me please i'm late for work and still have to pick up a co-worker. needles to say that pissed him off and he told me that when he is around i need to be driving slower. being the 19 year old i was i just said give me the damn ticket and i will see you in court.
P.S. I lost the judgement.
mikeb 11-05-2003, 06:34 PM I never try to fight them
its pretty tough
only 1 out of 10 will win
