View Full Version : How Many Speeding Tickets Have You Gotten
There are a few complains I am having with the 8, and I wonder if some of you are having this problem as well. I think this car catches TOO much attension. I feel good when I drive by and some pedestrians give me car a few looks and thumbs up, but ... cops... damn. Look away man, they gave me a ticket for turning on my fog lamps, they said I ran a red light speeding (it was yellow when I passed it along with another car). I got a speeding ticket for traveling at a BLARING 50 mph in a 40 mph zone, and was charged along with unsafe lane change.
I am extremely dissatisfied with these charges and are defniely going to appeal.
right... I only got my car for a month, 3 tickets.... lucky I am driving wiht a international lisence... no insureance surcharge...
MaRX8 10-26-2003, 12:28 AM 1 so far, from driving home from the dealership on the first day I had it.
I fought it, and won though..... Stupid speed trap....
syntrix 10-26-2003, 12:30 AM This thread should probably be moved.
I've never gotten a ticket in this car, not any other flashy car that I've owned in the past.
You probably live in a local area where they crack down pretty hard. Your 8 is candy. Cops like candy.
BTW, I never run a radar detector either, and I regularly speed at pretty crazy rates, too. I just slow down where it looks like it might be trap, especially crossing state/county lines on the freeway. I'm just hyper-aware when driving.
EDIT: BTW there are lawyers that work for free to reduce your tix to parking tix in Vegas ;) I've never had to use that system, but I know of a 21 year old that has used it about 10 times in the last 2 years :D
oh right I am sorry I posted this here, I was just reading Canzoomer's crazy good page.
Anyways, tickets are mad annoying... from where I came from Japanese cars get nailed pretty bad too...
but I think one of the reason why they are so crazy is becaues they wasted so much money fight the war and well I dun know but maybe spending too much money hiring cops.... hire less cops Bush!!
=)

Bush might affect overall state funding, but I'm sure it's either a state (county division), or a local issue.
Depending on which one it was, might want to talk to those congress peoples that work so hard for you [yeah right!].
If there's high crime rate in your areas or other issues, you can use that to lobby against the magnitude of the number of tickets you have received.
Each region is different, so who knows how the inner sanctum of politics works :( :( :(
Omicron 10-26-2003, 06:22 PM x28, I don't suppose your car is red, is it? I've found that red and yellow cars tend to attract a LOT more Law Enforcement attention...
mikeb 10-26-2003, 06:37 PM three months in velocity red and no tickets for me
lefuton 10-26-2003, 08:32 PM nothing in the 8 yet, and i drive a yellow one. the few times i do pass by cops they actually don't pay much mind to me. i guess i look like some conservative dweeb or something.
Tyler Durden 10-26-2003, 08:41 PM 2 tickets since delivery Aug 8th .... cost $285
fuel charges since delivery .....cost ~ $400
Driving this car like a bat out of hell .... PRICELESS !!!!
btw I just knew i was going to get tickets , I've just budgeted them in !
tminus3 10-26-2003, 08:42 PM I haven't been stopped yet. But with this car, I've noticed that I use cruise control more often on roads where the speed limit seems too low for the actual driving conditions.
There is this one road I travel in near Six Flags in NJ, where the road is straight and clear. It seems like the speed limit should be 75 MPH or so, but its 45...so i go on cruise control. Two times I've gone past cops, who would have been so happy to slap me with the old 0-9 over, only to have them nod. :-)
It pays to use cruise in those troublesome areas.
RX-GR8 10-26-2003, 08:46 PM havnt been stopped or gotten any tickets
success07 10-27-2003, 09:15 AM Let me start by saying that I've only had my 8 for 5 days and I'm keeping it around the speed limit for the break in period, so no tix as of yet.
On other note, prior to the 8, I have accumulated 19 moving violations over the course of my 14 year driving career. One of them came last week - 3 days before I picked up the 8. Some of the tix were well deserved others not. Alot of B.S. tix such as 42 in a 35 or 71 in a 65 and so on. Alot of "making their quota" type of tix, IMO. The ever popular rolling stop was my first at 16.
Always have attracted the po-po due to nice rides; '90 300zx (modes), '99 Infiniti G20t (modes), '02 TL Type-S, and now our beloved RX-8 (in Lightning Yellow, HA!) that get that kind of unfortunate attention.
As alot of us know, good attention (the thumbs up and smiles) goes hand in hand with bad attention, i.e. tix or jealousy with door dings or keyed doors. I'll take the good with the bad any day, especially with driving a car like the 8!
P.S. A Solo S2 will be on my X-Mas list this year - LOL!

That could be due to "motorway snooker", a game beloved of bored traffic police: book a red car, then a colour, red, colour... until fifteen reds are 'potted', then yellow, green, brown, blue, pink (can be a long wait) and black. Safest options are therefore white cars (foul stroke) or those not found in the game, e.g. grey, orange.
Genom 10-27-2003, 03:30 PM First ticket 2 weeks ago, crossing a causeway that I THOUGHT was 45, but was 30, AND I was still speeding a bit. He nailed me with a 59, but fined me a 44 in 30. I just say yes officer, no officer, thank you officer.
Thats a golden tip from all my cop buddies. Dont argue the cop. If your gonna fight, do it in court.
QuantumTheory08 10-27-2003, 05:55 PM ...thread search; don't ask.

Squidward 10-28-2003, 03:50 AM 5 in my Audi TT, none so far in my Bright YELLOW RX-8.
o_town_racer 10-28-2003, 09:51 AM None so far (knock on wood). Love my Escort Passport!
Twin8s_babigirl 10-28-2003, 05:45 PM Posted for Dad .... his account is still hosed (Twin 8s!)
======================================
Had car since 09 Sep...
One close encounter. 87 in a 55... Cop said 80... Shut it down so fast, I pulled over in front of him.
He said I was the first 8 he had seen and gave me a warning slip.
I look at it on my office wall every day to make me slooow down.
:D  :D
Eradicator 10-28-2003, 11:26 PM I'm not so lucky. I got arrested in Mississippi for doing 104 in a 70 zone (freeway in the middle of nowhere with barely any traffic). Cop was about to book me and let me bail out instead. I still have to settle the ticket. It's a good thing he didn't get me when I was at 122.
RX-GR8 10-29-2003, 12:23 AM cop was trailing me tonight for about 4 miles. finally passed me. in my lifetime i've only had 4 speeding tickets. the car i had the worst luck with was a 1988 toyota MR2. great little car but i got hit on the driver side by someone who ran a stop sign and i didnt have my seat belt on and i got 6 stitches in my head for that one. a few months later i was driving home from my girlfriends house and i hit a deer lots of danage to the MR2 on that one.
Kamala 10-29-2003, 09:25 AM This doesn't bode well for me. I have 16 tickets lifetime in an '84 Buick Regal, '00 Protege ES, and an '02.5 Pro5. Lifetime being roughly 9 years at this point. Gotta lay off the go juice.
Floyd 10-29-2003, 03:45 PM Well, I wont have an rx-8 for a year or 2 yet but if my '86 RX-7 was any indication i'm going to be in big trouble. I bought my GXL when I was 17 and had 3 +19mph over tix in less than 9 months and lost my lisence for 6 months. But, it gets better. When i got my lisence back, I took her out from under the cover and promply got 2 more +19mph over tix in the first week and lost it again! But truth be told I should have been booked on my last one for doing 75-80mph in a 30 zone( great street with wide shoulders and great visibility and curves!) But the good news is that now I live in Maine and my Colorado infractions didn't transfer(sure helps the insurance).
