flyingmuffyn 12-23-2007, 01:55 PM Approaching 90K on my 6MT. What should I be doing for servicing besides the usual oil change? Lately...
1. Start ups are alittle hesitant when u turn the ignition on. It sort of stutters into life if u noe wat i mean.
2. Idling on neutral is also alittle vibration-y. In fact, the cars shudders quite a bit.
3. The cooling fan doesn't seem to turn off as soon as u switch off the engine but goes on for another 5mins or so..never had dis happen b4...
4. Brake rotors hve ugly rusted edges...anywhere i can get them cleaned?
5. My front headlight covers have water stains on the inside. Should i get them removed and cleaned or juz change to nice tinted ones. Any reccs? Morrete for the 8?
Car is Stock except for 245/35/R19s

1. Rotaries start like that sometimes. Check spark plugs, coils and wires.
2. Check motor mounts for cracks, check spark plugs, coils and wires.
3. Normal in warm climate. Check/change coolant.
4. Normal for RX8 but you an get them media blasted and painted.
5. Pictures please...

Wow.. Bro.. sorry I cannot chip in to give advice here.. have you tried contacting MG to check out your ride?
Btw, I am curious to know if you had any serious issues with your ride before 90k KM? I am asking coz I am intending to keep mine for quite a while.. so I like to know what I am in for. Anything you can share will be greatly appreciated :)
yeah me too wish to keep this ride for a long time...
Swerve76 12-24-2007, 12:53 AM The only thing I know for certain is 2) which is more than likely your engine mounts.
MG is more than capable to changing them for you and checking out the rest of the stuff as well.

I have hesitant ignition problem too but solve after i change the car battery
Idling problem not too sure
Cooling fan on after you switch off ignition is normal if the engine oil temp gets too high esp after much reving ...function is something like a turbo engine
Brake rotor tends to rust after some times
My headlight have stains too :)

thks Guiness...din hv time to check the spark plugs juz now at the Garage..cos i put in a new RB CAI wif the Duct...so my car ain't stock anymore =)) but will get it checked out on Boxing Day...
yeah i noe its pretty normal for the fan not to shut down...had it on my other previous cars as well...its juz dat wif dis baby, it hasn't happened since i got it (2nd hand) like 8 mths ago..only lately....wuz tinking if its becos my engine oil levels are low (the warning light came on a few times but went off) dats why its overheating...I dun hv a particular heavy foot so hard revving is out...
as for the stains, u noe how condensation gets into the headlight housing and den evaporates, leaving ugly stains? its looks like dat...and i wuz tole not to muck ard wif the housing cos taking it out will destroy the sealant which only means more water going in...=/

yah i suspect its a batt problem too...abit paiseh leh the sound esp when there are ppl in the car.....i mean i dun expect the 8 to roar into life when u turn the key but also dun sound so kooniang leh...=))
is there a date they paste on the batt when they change it so we noe roughly when its gg to die....i haven checked....
my front rotors are ok, its the back rotor edges dat r damn unsightly.....mebbe its a sign for dat new BBK =P
i tot can dismantle the headlight and wipe the insides.....but i tink dat wld cause even more water to go in when u destroy the factory seals and fittings....=/
mkl22 12-25-2007, 04:11 AM the starting could be the battery and starter. i just changed my starter to the new high current and rpm one. starts so much better..
my fan also on when i off my engine for twice...
and my front rotor seems to have marks on them as my ride is onli less then 2 months thinking to ask the appointed agent to change new 1 for me... any1 think is it possible anot huh...??

flyingmuffyn 01-03-2008, 01:43 PM the Mazda Stockist Fong Yat down at Race Course road sells the left and right engine mounts for 110 a pop (cash and carry)....wundering if i should juz buy and install...hmmm....engine bay does the lambada whenever the aircon compressor cuts in....its not so noticeable wif the a/c off and the car idling...
mkl22 01-03-2008, 09:16 PM yup. its the mounts that are gone.
