With all this engine replacement talk I just bought a 2005 rx-8 gt used with 17000mi on it. I bought it from a kia dealer and wanted to know how I'd go about checking out if anything could be covered under warrenty or be fixed now instead of waiting till the warrenty runs out...

things i've noticed...

- When parked sometimes in first gear with e-brake on I turn the car on put it into neutral for 60 seconds to warm up then engage reverse drop the e-brake and her a bang under the car then it goes into gear.

- Sometimes I shift from 4th to 6th and even with the clutch in all the way i'll get a grind... although is hasn't happened in a while.

Or can anyone tell me the signs of an engine going or how i can it tested????

Thanksssss

The bang is the ABS self test. Happens once per startup as you start moving. Perfectly normal.

The grind has nothing to do with the engine. Change your tranny fluid and check your clutch bracket (search "clutch pedal" or "clutch bracket") as some have become loose. If it's not one of those either search for threads with your tranny issues and read up or take it to the dealer and let them check it out.

Remember, search is your friend.

Nothing you've posted there has anything to do with the engine going out...You'll notice a loss of power and eratic idle when your engine goes...It's really obvious what it is.

Get a compression test done ...needs a special tool....so you will probably need a Mazda dealer...or a specialty rotary shop

I think he was just asking for future reference and listing his current problems for the hell of it. Id say your have nothing to worry about, get your current problems looked at.
