(Didn't find any other posts in the search funtion.)

I was at the dealer earlier this week and noticed a red 8 in the showroom. It stuck out because the interior looked odd. It had light gray on dark gray leather, like the red on black. It looked goofy on the red car, but would look nice on the silver, gray, or black, I bet. I wasn't aware that they planned to release a different leather option.

That's the cloth not leather... it's gray/black.

Or maybe the dealer got itchy and decided to replace the original upholstry, though that might be difficult in an 8, I'd think..

I opened the door and felt it (in disbelief myself). You gotta give me the benefit of the doubt. :) The dark gray was almost a titanium gray, while the lighter gray was almost white.

Must have been a custom jobbie if it was leather in those colors.

I still think it was the cloth... the black on the cloth combo does feel a little like "pleather".. :)

I would be surprised a dealer would go to the effort to do a custom job.

It could be a custom job. Couple of days ago we stopped by the dealer again so my wife could get a look at the car. I mentioned the catch-22 of wanting leather but not a moonroof. They mentioned that they can arrange custom upholstering and had an example on the lot of a 2-tone leather (not rx8). The work looked pretty good. I'll have to call back and see if they can get a yellow; my yellow w/ black/yellow int may get "built" after all.

Would not be surprised if this is a custom job. Re-upholstering has become very popular, and there appear to be several reputable vendors.

I don't really care for the moonroof, so I've considered this "aftermarket leather" an option down the road, should I want leather seating. Cost is usually around $900-1000 for a full interior (F&R) leather job (installed).
