View Full Version : Photoshop Pinstriping ideas
Ole Spiff 10-24-2003, 11:38 AM I'm trying to figure out a good pinstriping scheme for the RX-8. I've attached some jpegs of ideas I've been working on. One thing I quickly discovered is how difficult the 8 is to pinstripe! The flowing and varying surfaces do not easily lend themselves to being "divided" up with pinstripes. It's almost like trying to pinstripe a moebus strip.
Any suggestions/feedback?
Ole Spiff

pmacwill 10-24-2003, 11:51 AM please put your hands up and step away from the computer :p
the top one doesn't look horrible buy you have to cut it off sooner rather than running it the whole way around the front cover. The one that archs over the wheel wells makes me cringe and don't get me started on front cover one spanning the fogs...
brothervoodoo 10-24-2003, 11:57 AM Just the top pinstripe seems like a possibility, without it wrapping around the nose. All the others seem silly and out of place.
RX8Lover 10-24-2003, 11:57 AM ewwwwwwwwww!
Mutation?
Come on nature, do your bit. KILL! KILL! KILL!
Perhaps pinstripe all over - more zebra?
zoom44 10-24-2003, 12:47 PM my first thought even before i got to the pic and pmac's response was just stop and step away from the computer. like others said maybe the top one but the others.......
desmo996 10-24-2003, 02:22 PM Going for the "Tron" look, eh?
English 10-24-2003, 02:57 PM Thanks for showing me what to NOT do to the car. Very informative.

yea i suggest you don't do it at all, please...pinstriping is illegal on sports cars, didn't you know? i don't even think they really do it anymore on family passenger cars...just a suggestion...
RX-GR8 10-24-2003, 06:47 PM it reminds me of this.

mikeb 10-24-2003, 08:08 PM that is really bad
English 10-24-2003, 08:29 PM Funny how cool the batmobile looked at the time....now it's not so cool. Oh well.
lurcher 10-24-2003, 08:36 PM Ole Spiff... based on that reception, if you add those mods to your car, it will at least be unique. ;)
Do what you think looks best - if we all had the same tastes it would be very boring world. (No doubt we'd all be driving white stock Corollas).
And the batmobile was never cool, get a grip people! The Batman TV series was pure camp. :)

And you didn't even have the vaguest sense that a twenty-years-younger little boy sidekick in a tight costume was a teeny bit suspicious? :D
That said, I did have a little Matchbox Batmobile, bought for me against my will for Christmas I might add. It was destroyed in glorious flames like most of my other toys.
RodsterinFL 10-24-2003, 09:28 PM was the Batmobile a rotary? Fire came out of the back!
brothervoodoo 10-24-2003, 09:30 PM I just love it when we tie in other threads... LOL..

No no, it all burns. Die-cast has a very low melting point, lead and tin. Mmm, fire...

Ole Spiff 10-25-2003, 01:06 AM Okay well since you all were so shy in telling me what you think, I decided to try a revision based on your oh-so-subtle suggestions. (hehe)
BTW, this is not my car; I have a blue one but I used this because it had a nice angle of view.
I did find it interesting though that no one seemed to notice the retouched rims; those are the stock RX-8 rims but I darkened the "spokes". I'm sure now that I've mentioned it everyone will be equally shy at giving me feedback on how they look. :D
Ole Spiff
mod edit - this pic is broken sorry

MyRxBad 10-27-2003, 09:44 AM In the pics, it looks like you are trying to 3d model the car.
In laments terms: It looks like a$$.
RotaryStalker 10-27-2003, 01:51 PM Well it's missing white wall tires to go with that striping....

I like the look of the wheels. It is probably something which could be painted quite effectively. On my titanium 8, the titanium/grey spokes could look nice.
I think it really works with the black.
