I saw an ad for a 94 3000 gt vr4 138,000 miles on it for 7k.
What do u guys think of the car, and is it worth the price. I asked here and there and few love the car and few think it has alot of mechanical problem. I want to hear you guys opinion.

You get what you pay for!!

138 K on that motor? Get ready to spend a few thousand $$$ to get it back to optimum performance.

It's hard to say, if the car is running well then it's a great deal, though for 7k I have a feeling it needs some work. Mitsubishi isn't known for their reliability though I owned a DSM that was a great car for years. If it's the original turbo I can't imagine it has much life left in it, but it would be a great car for someone that doesn't mind dropping some money into it.

My buddy had a Vr-4.. babied it. Then one day the engine had some bearing problems and he had to replace it for about $5k. His only had 50k miles on it.

i prefer 96 and above as that was when they initiated the body change...the older ones (95 and under) had those flip up lights which break easily and outdated body style...for $7K you could do a lot better...you can probably find a '96 VR-4 with less mileage for that price

The 3000GT VR4 is an overweight cruiser - it's no sports car. If you want a heavy, less responsive (sluggish feeling when cornering), car with lots of power - that's a good one.

Aren't the VR4's twin turbo? Even more worrisome there...

I wouldn't dig it unless you were handy with the wrenches and can take care of labor/troubleshooting yourself.

actually i'm not sure, i'm just making a wild guess...mitsubishi's really don't hold their value much...i bought mine for $19,000 and in 3 years time the highest offer i could sell it for was $9,000...

i agree and disagree with you completely...first off, yes you're right, it's heavy...it's large and VERY heavy...but it IS a sports car in every respect...the VR-4 has 4 wheel drive, 4 wheel STEERING...yes the back tires turn as well...also, at higher speeds, the front AND rear spoilers adjust itself (if you get the aero package)...so handling isn't like an RX-8 but what is? i think it handles just fine for the large heavy beast that it is...

are you gonna say a Dodge Viper isn't a sports car since it's large and heavy?

This is not correct. I believe 1994 was the first year the Mitsubishi company went with fixed headlights and the new body moldings.

I owned a 1994 3000 GT SL, and 1995 3000 GT VR4. I loved both cars. I was most surprise how structurally sound they were. In my 1994, I was rear ended at 60+ mph by an old boat (some 1973 Buick). There was damage to my car, but from the outside it just looked like someone tore up my bumper with a knife. The hatch and quarter panels were all fine too. It really amazed everyone at the scene.

Anyhow, good luck with the purchase.

I am thingking about it

I saw the ad from a private dealer not a private party, and for the asking price I was wowed but with 138000 I agree with mike I don't know if any of the parts have any life left. I also saw a toyota supra tt same mileage but @ 18k asking price.

My Dear Son has TWO '91 Mits 3000s (oh where did I go wrong?), and I must say that I have never before encountered such automotive pigs with virtually no redeeming virtues!

The FWD SL V6 is horridly massive, and can't make good use of the meager power it has. In a straight line it's about the equal of a stock Miata, in a turn it might keep up with a Jeep (I do not exaggerate. On a local corner that I can take in my Wagoneer without spilling my coffee the silly Mits puts me in fear of life & limb at the same speed. That, my friends, is NOT a sports car). Interior layout is draconian, with no apparent ergonomic logic applied to controls. Rear seat room makes an RX-8 feel like a minivan, and visibility is far worse than that of an 8, if you can imagine. Quality of materials and workmanship is by far the worst I've seen, and I've owned Fiats!

The VR4 is a little better in most aspects, but is about as much a sports car as is a Cadillac Escalade. It's power/weight makes it a bit slower than his Mom’s RX-8 (even though, like most kids who subscribe to enough magazines, his makes a "calculated" 450 HP), but the truckish torque of the motor lets it at least feel peppy in traffic. But even with AWD, 4WS, & OBS, twisty roads are definitely not this car’s forte. It’s fine for a freeway cruise, as long as you don’t mind wondering where the broken window switch is.

In case I haven't made it clear, I don't much care for these things. To put a finer point on it, I can't believe that such a piece of unmitigated crap was produced in the modern age.

I still don't think they have AWS... Yes they are a bit heavy and not the greatest handlers, for the time they were nice cars but they were always less less talented version of their cousins the Supra, RX-7, and 300Z TT. If it's stock and beat to hell yes it will be slower than an RX-8, but in good running condition they ran around 14 flat in the 1/4. However get in the turns and the VR4 isn't keeping up without some major things done to it.

THey do have AWS the back wheels only turn a fraction of a degree though,
