View Full Version : Coming Soon
boowana 12-07-2002, 09:37 PM Four weeks from tomorrow, I will be at the NAias looking at A "REAL LIVE FIANL PRODUCTION MODEL OF THE RX-8".
I have a pass to press days st the NAIAS in Detroit.
If I can hook up with one of the moderators, i will attempt to email pictures as fast as I can from the show with as much info as possible.
Moderators. Let me know how to contact you off line and we can try and establish some kind of communications. You know how to get hold of me.:p
Hercules 12-08-2002, 12:37 AM You better get pictures! :)
wakeech 12-08-2002, 03:18 AM i'm sure i'm not alone in feeling this whole sense of awe in the stuff you know and get to do... i think the phrase "wowee zowee" suits this situation best.
some suggestions: USE SOME LOW ISO # FILM SO WE CAN GET SOME GOOD COLOUR FROM THESE PICS!!! i know it'll be low light, so make sure to use a tripod or brush up on the hand-held skills...
digicam would be a substitute i suppose, but please no +400 speed point-and-shooters... please... ;) hee hee, jk.
WOW!! anything at all would be amazing, i'm so inparticular to the medium in which you inform us of what's coming (especially price, that will be huge, if they can target it by then)... even just in your no-nonsense, simple text way. ;)
BOO!! YOU DA MAN!! :p
Grimace 12-08-2002, 08:20 AM Take a big picture of the window sticker... I'm most interested in price at this point.
Sputnik 12-08-2002, 10:38 AM I sent a PM...

boowana 12-08-2002, 01:21 PM wakeech:
I will be using a Canon PowerShot S40 4 Mega Pixel camera. I am hoping the lighting will be bright enough to capture some good images.
The questions will be what density and what rsolution will work best. The lwoer the settings, the more pictures I can take.
If I can get a good email connection there, I plan to upload pictures to Sputnick as early as Sunday evening, January 5th. If not, I am back here on Tueday the 7th and wil transfer the best shots then.
Finally, anyhting that I can gather on specs, pricing, options, etc. I will post as well.
Just hang in there. I will get what I gather out as fast as I can.:D
Hercules 12-08-2002, 01:25 PM Boowana, my experience has been to take shots at 1024 resolution. They are big enough to see detail but small enough to fit a whole bunch onto a compact flash card.
Mazda man 12-08-2002, 01:53 PM I would like to see a pic of the boot (trunk) if you can get that close.
pmacwill 12-09-2002, 02:20 PM I want a picture that tells me I can get nav.

roachman 12-09-2002, 03:55 PM Yea, options would be very very nice.
Colors, two-tone interior opions, Nav, Sunroof, heated seats, etc, etc,
I am counting down the days, minutes, seconds !

zoom44 12-09-2002, 04:03 PM and make sure you tell us more about this bluetooth key thing!
Quick_lude 12-09-2002, 06:08 PM On my 2.0 MP canon 1600x1200 at the highest quality settings means about 500-900K per pic. Or about 140 on a 128mb CF card. You should have ISO control on that camera Boowana.. so maybe you should practice before you go in low light conditions to see what works best. :)

zoom44 12-09-2002, 07:28 PM Brian? apparently you know something about boowanna that the rest of us dont!
Jerome81 12-10-2002, 01:45 AM Please make the pictures just big enough to easily see without any, or with very little, scrolling on the average computer screen.
I would think 600X800 or the next step up would be about perfect. I hate when you get pictures so big you can't even see anything but chunks because you have to scroll all over the place.
Lastly, I saw something about the LA autoshow. The RX-8 X Car from the X Men movie will be there. I assume that means the real deal is saved for Detroit, as it should be. No sense in releasing such a highly anticipated car anywhere else but the greatest auto show in the world. ;)
Shoot all those pics! If possible, could you record the unveiling? And of course, if Mazda surprises us with something else all new, please photograph that (RX-7.....RX-7......RX-7)

Yes it is!
I realy wish I could make the trip (back to my home town) to see the RX-8 in person, too ... but time, money and family make it a no-show.
So, thanks to you, this is the next best thing! :D
Thanks, again for all of us who live in a galaxy far far away!

Just because he takes pics at 1600x1200, it doesn't mean he has to link them at that size. The reason I take pics at the highest possible resolution and quality is for hard copies. If you ever need to get a "real" picture made, you will be glad.
Btw, I'm going to the Detroit show on Jan19th.. I hope the RX-8 is still there.. :(

Ideally you get 5x7 or 8x10s for hard copies, and 1024 resolution is generally good enough for that.
Quick_lude 12-13-2002, 08:42 AM Har dee har har.. 1600x1200 or 2.1 Mp will make 8x10's. But even for smaller sizes I like to have as much info in the digi pic as possible. Makes for good quality pictures.
bwayout 12-13-2002, 01:10 PM Yes, a higher DPI is better for any size picture quality ... but honestly, whatever boowana is able to do is great by me (and the more the better)! After all in about 5 or 6 months from now we'll all be (hopefuly) able to see, touch and drive a RX-8 in person! :D
Quick_lude 12-13-2002, 01:26 PM I'm hoping to see it and touch it on Jan 19th, 2003.. :D

I am very envious :D You certainly are one of the lucky ones! I really wish I could make the trip too.
There are so many thing that I'm dying to know about - I hope we can find out if it will have some kind of spare tire ...?
BryanH 12-13-2002, 08:39 PM 1600x1200 isn't enough to make a good 8x10. It'll make one but the result will be somewhat grainy.
A 1600x1200 straight off my camera is slightly blurry - just the nature of digital cameras - so I'll resample the image in Photoshop to something smaller, which vastly improves sharpness and clarity of the image. An 800x600 (50% original size) turns out great. Bigger can be done well, too, but you can still see a tad of that slight blur.
