thinking of buying an 04 w/ 48k miles for $13k

I want to know if I am making a mistake about purchasing a rx8. This price seems right (is it too low should i be worried),

I know its an 04 (the bad year), am i likely to need an engine replacement.

It will be out of warranty in a month. How much is an engine replacement.

Any other stuff I should ask or worry about.

GT, touring, standard? MT or AT? any additions such as rims, cd changer, moonroof/sunroof, etc. not enough info to base decision on.

13K is about the going rate for that car. Take it to a dealer and have them do a pre buy inspection and make sure the recall was already performed.

most I see are between 2400-3700 depending on mileage you want on the motor. so basically a 16k car.

Why the heck are all of you people factoring a new engine into the price? Just because it's an 04 doesn't mean the engine is going to blow up. 3 local friends of mine all have 04's and regularly autocross their cars, all 3 passed the recall with flying colors. 13K is not a fantastic deal but it's not bad. Like I said take it in and get all the recall stuff checked out before the warranty runs out and if everything is in good shape then buy it.

That's a real good deal. About $4g under dealer retail. Make sure it passed the compression test. Your good to go.

because thats the diferrence between a good or bad deal, 13k is great for an 04, 16-17 isn't a good deal at all for an 04.

Run the VIN in carfax and ask a Mazda dealer to print out the warranty service record for that VIN.
