I returned my Blue Toy yesterday evening. :(

To recap for the benefit of any newcomers, I totally loved the car, and was all set to take the servicing/$500 offer until I was unexpectly laid off at the end of September. In order to reduce costs while job hunting, I elected to take Mazda's "golden parachute" instead.

The return process was totally painless - the buyback offer paid us back every single penny that we had spent on the car with the exception of gas and insurance, and we were handed the check right there when we returned it.

Basically I've had free use of a wonderful car for a full three months, so I'm not complaining at all. And once I return to regular employment, I'll be lining up at the dealership for another.

Of course, while the car has gone, my love of it remains, and I'll continue to be a regular contributor around here. In fact I probably have more time to spend here than before. Wonder if I can challenge MikeB for the top spot? :p

(Just yankin' yer chain, mike. :))

yes, please stay and voice your thoughts...you've contributed much to this board...

and no one can beat mikeb...unless you make it a habit to respond to every single thread multiple times with replies such as "post pics" or something to that effect :D

Sorry you had to "let go" of your toy. You said Mazda gave you back every cent. Was their sales tax when you bought car, and if so, did they also "refund" sales tax?

thanks..Harwax

harwax, they never screwed anyone on sales tax. Everything people paid for the car, they are getting back. There are other tax benefits some people are not getting because they no longer had a trade-in after they returned the 8.

eccles -
While I always find value in your posts, just make sure to get back into the workforce as soon as possible. Quality, not quantity:)

Sorry to hear you had to return the car - I know what it's like to have to give up things for financial reasons. Good luck finding a new job soon - are you only looking in Austin or also in the Houston area as well?

Mazda refunded our entire downpayment, the full amount of the lease payments we had made, and the full purchase price (including tax) of the MP3 player and Aldehyde filter that I had bought after I bought the car. Every penny we had paid to Mazda or the leasing company, we got back.

I'm so sorry to hear that man. :( Judging by your sig, you're a life long enthusiast and it must just plain suck to let go of your new baby.
Good luck with the job hunt man.

Thanks for the wishes, folks. At least I still have the wife's '02 Miata to play in. :)

Pelucidor: I'm restricting my search to Austin, but if someone was to offer me silly money for a short-term contract elsewhere, I'd consider living out of town for a while. Not about to sell up and move though. Had a nibble for a 6-month engagement in Baltimore, but nothing came of it.
