Who all has an 8 in STL?

Don't have mine yet, but it rolled out of production on 09-Oct and was scheduled to leave port on 17-Oct.

Question: At what point in the production/delivery process did you receive your VIN from Mazda?

Me Me Me! I have seen one other red, one yellow and one black so far in StL.

When are we all going to get together and do some spirited driving on some of these fun, winding rural roads around here?

I live in St. Charles and have seen a couple other ones on the road around here.

I was positive I was going to buy an Infiniti G35 when it came out. I am so glad I waited for the 8. Jonalan says there are a lot of 8s in St. Louis, but I have now seen 4 total since they were out in July. I see G35s everywhere I look. G35s are great cars, but I would miss the "what kind of car IS that?" I get everywhere I go now.

I agree......I don't see many either.

I think I have seen about 5-6 total myself on the road since I had mine at the beginning of August.

Same here RedJade. I was all set to buy a G35 coupe before they came out. I test drove the sedan, spoke to the sales guy at Plaza at least once a week. Then, all of a sudden I saw the RX-8 at the car show -- and that was it. I KNEW I would have it.

My office overlooks the parking lot at Chesterfield Mall, and I see one or two RX-8s a week driving around or parked at the mall. I've seen red, blue, titanium and black. I have yet to see yellow or silver.

I also drive in from St Charles on 40 about the same time every morning with a blue RX-8 owner.

Sightings are still rare enough to make the car unique. I think it will probably stay that way.

We probably passed each other at Plaza a few times. I feel bad - I really did like their internet sales guy and he thought he had a deal wrapped up.

I drive from O'Fallon (MO) downtown everyday and have only seen one other 8 during my commutes. It was a blue 8 about three weeks ago. Almost missed it, was in the left lane of 70 EB, and jumped in the middle to do a quick pedal stomp to pass the slowbee leading a line of followers in the left lane when I blew by the blue 8 plodding along in the right lane (not being pejoritive, I'm sure that car was still in the break-in period). Saw several (I think 3) other 8s tooling around St. Chuck the next sevaral days, and have not seen one since. I still get many stares (drop jaws) and people that go out of their way to get a good look at my car. Although I hear sales are strong, 8s are still a rarity in St. Louis.

I'm in St. Louis. Just hit the 1k mark on my car.

I've only seen a Yellow one in St. Louis, which is usually parked at Monsanto where I work also- haven't run into this person yet.

Mine is black with appearance package and deep tint. Looks like a little batmobile.

My usual commute is from North county down to Creve Couer area and back. Although I run around in St. Charles and South County a bit as well.

Maybe I'll see you guys around.

i'm not the blue one (see the avatar) but i'd been wondering about the red 8 i always saw coming on 70E every morning. i had the opposite commute (downtown to lake st. louis) and i'd see "the red 8" almost everyday!

I went to meet some friends at the Movies tonight at St. Charles 18. I parked realllllly far away and as I was walking back, there was another car parked out in never-never land. It was a Silver RX-8. If it hadn't turned so cold, I would have walked back to my car and parked my Red nose to nose with the silver. I wonder how much drive-by rubber-necking that would have caused :)

There are a few 8's at Monsanto that I've seen so far. There is a Blue one that parks in the garage of G-building also. Do you park down by F-dock?

I've got 8,500K on the car and it runs great! I just got back from a trip to North Carolina where I got to test the cars handling on Black Mountain - I think I want to go again. :D The car handles beautifully.

I live in O'Fallon, IL and commute to St. Louis via I-64. I've seen a blue RX8 heading on I-64 East towards downtown each day around 7:00 PM'ish.

I'm in B building at the moment and park there. However they are moving all of IT over to G, so starting December 18th I'll be parking in one of the lots over there.

I'll have to find where the other 8's are parking on that side.

Maybe we can start our own area!

Chalk up one for the Metro East! Picked up my blue 8 during lunch and it doesn't matter what number you throw out there for HP, this car hauls @$$........or, at least it will once the break-in period is over :D

Hello, St. Louis (area) RX8 owners. Seriously considering purchase and curious how the car did this weekend with the snow/ice. I've read it does very well with snow tires, but I'm assuming since we get relatively little snow here that most of you are using stock tires.

Also, any strong feelings about who to buy from and who not to?

I took my RX out 'playing' in the snow. We got about 3" or so in Illinois. The snow tires do make a huge difference. I got through the snow with no problems. With stock tires only, the car just doesn't move. Check out the Canadian posts on the topic.

I'd recommend Tirerack.com for tires and rims. I picked up the Bridgestone Blizzak 50's w/ Miglo Migla Evo5 rims for ~$1400. I won't drive without them. To keep the cost down, I went with 225/50/17's. The physical profile is the same as the stock tire, but the tread has a much deeper bite. Since overall width and height are the same, the speedometer is still accurate, and, there is enough clearance in the wheel well to get rid of the snow.

Also, the front brake calipers clear these rims just fine.

Thanks for input, ObjeX. I was unclear about the "who to buy from and who not to." I was talking about the car - dealers in the St. Louis area.

Canadian (and other) posts on the snow tire subject are excellent. I've just never owned a car that required two sets and I wasn't sure what the concensus is around our area relative to the amount of snow we get: a winter set ($$), or just "make due" with the all seasons.

I had my car out in the snow yesterday with the stock tires on it, and it wasn't THAT bad. I got around just fine.

The only time I can see where it might have been a problem was if I would have gotten stopped on hill and had to take off from a dead stop. That might have been a little challenging.

I personally don't feel that the 2....maybe 3 days out of the winter we have here in St. Louis where there is more than a couple of inches of snow on the roads warrants snow tires. If I lived in Canada, I might have a different opinion on it.

Wordchef, I bought my car from Bommarito Mazda St. Peters a while ago. I was a pre-order and paid msrp but have (spent) the $500 debit card and free maintenence for the warrenty period. While I'm happy with my dealer, if I were you I would look into the dealers that are advertising selling at invoice (none in our area) and figure the cost to travel to get it at invoice and then force the local dealers to bid against each other. IMHO, right now in STL you should be able to get an 8 about 1500-1800 under MSRP. Also, IMHO, no dealer is better than another.

Good points. There are 8's sitting on lots and we're approaching end of month / end of year. Hope to put something "reasonable" together. I still can't wrap my head around spending the money on a winter set of tires/wheels (where we live). But I guess that's not a good reason to get a 9-3 aero 6sp over the 8 (don't throw anything at me!). I pretty much know the answer to that since the 8 was the one car that made me grin like a kid each time I shifted!

I HIGHLY recommend winter tires.

For one, the stock tires are NOT all-season; they are summer performance tires. They will NOT work on snow, ice, slush, etc. They also, do not perform as well in cold weather. What many people do not understand, is that summer tires are made with different materials than winters. The traction with the summmer tires in cold weather, is not that good even on dry pavement. Winter tires are not just snow tires, they are designed for winter driving (wet, dry, snow, etc.) in cold weather.

Unless, you have the option of leaving the car in the garage (or parking lot) for a few days when it snows, you DEFINITELY should get winter tires, period. If this would be your every day driver, you should consider winter tires anyway, even if just for the cold weather.

As far as I know, there are no all-season tires available yet for the RX-8.

Having said all that, I do have winter tires on my car - Dunlop Winter Sport M3s, with 17" Kazera KZ-V wheels (from tirerack.com). However, I did not take the car out on Saturday to try them out. Not worried about the handling of the 8 in snow, but more nervous about the idiots that don't know how to drive in it.

BTW, I bought my car from Lou Fusz. Pre-ordered in February; received car in July. Although it was a good experience, I'm sure any other dealer in town would be just as good.

Oh, and one more thing...

wordchef, go buy an RX-8! You will absolutely love it!

I live the the Ofallon, Mo. area. I picked mine up in September and have only seen a few around the area. There is a another black one at Red Lobster in St. Peters I see all the time.

I bought mine at Bommarito St. Peters. Since I used the Mazda S-Plan, I got it below invoice and they didn't care.

With that said, I would imagine you could get a very good deal on it.

Also, we average 12 inches of snow per year in St. Louis. We have had 4 already. Until these stock tires wear out and I can replace with all weather, I'm not worried about snow tires.

I just left my car in the garage during the 'heavy' snow, and took it out the next day when the roads were mostly cleaned (was fine). I figure if I need to take 1-2 days off a year for snow, oh well.

Also, my suggestion would be to take a day and drive to every dealership. Make a list of every car they have that has the minimum amount of options you want.

Then you can look at this list at your liesure and determine who to deal with and who has the 2nd/3rd/4th best car for you...

Welcome to the club Cash. I thought a lot about the winter tire issue and ended up buying cheap 17 inch rims and LM-22 Blizzaks. Before I had my winter setup there were 2 days where the forecast said snow possible. Both days I drove my wife's minivan (it didn't snow either day). So it's not just the couple of days in which it actually snows that you can't drive the 8, it's also the days where it might snow. Unless you're willing to be stuck at work. I live in O'Fallon MO and commute downtown and am not willing to be stuck downtown. Plus after driving the 8 for a couple of months now, I hate driving the minvan. For our area it's a tough decision.

Instead of visiting the dealers in person, one can use the search inventory feature on Mazda's website to locate a car with the right options, and then make the 2nd/3rd/4th list as you suggested. With the current Mazda lease $1500 offer and bargaining for $1500 off MSRP, one should be able to get a car for 3K off MSRP.

You've got to have an executive club card. The spaces are assigned to senior executives. The garage is accessed by their security ID badge with an entrance near the G-Auditorium.

I got to sneak a peek in the garage the other day. That blue RX8 is an automatic. Looked weird.

I'm a consultant - been working with Monsanto as a client since 1996. The last set of projects I ran were the 2 insourcings where we brought back NAIT in-house from IBM. Just finished up Q4'03.

Only one word of caution, if the weather is bad (snow, ice, etc.), leave her parked, unless you get winter tires. The stock tires are completely useless in bad winter weather.

I'm in Maryland Hts and yea, this weather sucks, so I really hope it clears up. Got any recommendations for good tire places locally for all season tires? I know tirerack.com is kinda out of the all-seasons for the RX-8.

I'm not familiar with the local tire shop inventories. I ordered my winters from tire rack a while back.

I went with 17 inch rims and used Plaza tire. It was about $1200 complete. I had called the NTB Chesterfield store and was told that they could get winter tires for the stock rims. I think it was the LM-22s but I could be wrong. I didn't ask about all seasons. BTW, handled great in today's slush.

Anybody out there have any idea when it might be a good idea to put the summer sneakers back on? When does it typically stop snowing in St. Louis?

Florissant RX-8 runner here. Silver simple trim mods...

Soon to be a RX8 owner here if things go right. With that in mind, how much has everyone here been paying for their RX8? Lou Fusz emailed me back saying they were selling 30% above invoice. Seems a bit high considering people are getting deals at or less than invoice. I'd like to get an idea before I go in.

BTW, I know I should be asking this in the Dealer section, but I feel I would get a better answer from people who dealt with the same local dealers.

I paid a tad over $31k, but I also got my accessories through them and had them install it. I went with Lou Fusz mainly for the reason that they are only 10 minutes away from my house if I ever have problems. You may check with Bommarito and see their prices. Also, I used Car Buying Tips (http://www.carbuyingtips.com/carintro.html?x=0tekxgl_eoyyqkz_ttky3&y=0x40x25) and based my price off of that. They have a worksheet to go off of and it worked great for me.

There is no way you will have to pay 30% over invoice. I think Fusz has had their RX-8's on the lot for a while. I bought one off the lot in January and it had a build date of 7-03 is why I think that.

I called the Sales Manager today and he was in awe when I asked about the 30% markup. He talked the sales person I had been dealing with and the sales admittedly made the mistake. He meant 3% NOT 30%. Does this sound right?

I think 3% sounds right. Check out edmunds.com, they list regional prices. At least I think they do based on zip code. The dead of winter is the best time to buy a sports car. Just remember, you will either need to get winter tires or leave it parked whenever there's a chance of snow. For timing of last snow fall in St. Louis, it's not unknown to have snow in early April, but I'm thinking of switching back to summer tires in mid to end March FWIW.

I keep seeing a titanium one driving west from downtown on 40 in the afternoons on my way home from work.

I now drive a Red RX-8 in the Fairview Heights Area. I occasionally see a black and another red RX-8 in the area.

Greetings from Bridgeton. Owner of a brilliant black 6 speed w/ Grand Touring pkg. Have also seen a silver one with a front license plate :mad: in town and occasionally see the silver one driving in Florissant. Last night saw a blue one in Ballwin. I am particularly upset that I wasn't able to meet up with everybody at the get together in July. It looks like I would have had the only black 8 there! When's the next meet? We need to do it next time on a Sunday. I have to work Saturdays.

I am in the process of organizing another get together. The only problem with sundays is if we want to go to a dealership again they most likely will not want to do something on a sunday. I am thinking for the next drive it will be an only rx8 thing since the last time none of the 7 guys would talk to us.

Sunday is when the autox's are, but I'm up for any Sunday that I'm not racing. If we're to get any dealer sponsorship, I agree it needs to be on a Saturday.

They have actually been advertising that for a few weeks. I went to the bommarito dealership to test drive one three weeks ago and said they aren't selling in the midwest but selling on the coast like crazy. Hopefully I will like this car more than my wrx.

You may see me in the St. Peters, O'Fallon, and St. Charles area. I live in unicorporated St. Charles close to "South" O'Fallon, Weldon Springs, and Cottleville. I drive a brillant black GT with black and red leather, appearance package, rear spoiler, polished accents, and most unique fender stakes I just put on a couple of weeks ago.

We can try to identify ourselves with a thumbs up out the window. If you see a black 8 with fender stakes it's probably me...

Thanks for the clarification. I have never seen in person another 8 with strakes, so they are unique.

Plus BUMP, there are a lot of 8 owners in stl that are not posting here. The last autox event had 3 8 owners. Seth I know you post occasionally, but Richard please post (join iin on the sharing of info). And on the way home I saw two other 8s, I passed a silver/tit grey and saw a yellow on the outer road.

Although I have my Titanium one for a year this is the first time posting here. Are there any events in which we all meet together in Stl area?

Nice to meet you. I have been seeing more and more eights on the road. The Bommarito Mazda in St. Peters had a white one someone was test driving and most likely bought up because I didnt even see it parked on there lot out front.

Nice to meet you too, Katie. Yeah, I bought mine at Bommarito. There was one there that I think belonged to one of the employees. It was white and had dark chrome wheels. It was sweet. I'm not sure if that was the one you are referring to. It is always parked on the side of the showroom, and always backed in.

Yup the white one I saw did have chrome wheels on it-I guess I might catch a glimpse of it- I have to drop my car off at Bommarito Monday for some warrenty work.

I don't think that I have seen a blue one on the road yet. I mostly see red and gray. I like the gray. My wife also just told me today that someone in her dept bought a green AT. I took a look at it out the window. It was the 1st geen one that I have seen on the road. Pretty sweet. Dirty wheels thought...yuck! My commute takes me from New Halls Ferry to Dorsett and back each day. I don't see many 8s at all. Maybe 2-3 a week.

Well, I ran across a blue 8 on Manchester heading west at about 5:10 last night. More or less side-by-side in traffic for ten minutes or so. Probably nobody here, but I figured I'd mention it.

Yeah, spring is the logical time for the next meeting. Winter is for planning and making modifications. hehe

Well, yeah, of course rotary revolution but I had in mind something a little smaller and a lot closer. Not erveryone will be able to go to the revolution (I don't mean me, I'm going!) and it's an annual event. I was hoping that some of us can get together locally and talk cars. My names Phil. Just registered here for the club. Just picked up my 04 RX-8 MT November 29th. I thought I loved to look at them, that was nothing compared to how much I love to drive mine. Had an 03 Eclipse GT with tons of mods on it that I traded in. Thought I would miss that one. Now I'm like, "Eclipse who?". I look forward to possibly seeing if there are any get together dates. Hopefully get some mod ideas from everyone else, if willing. Right now just trying to figure out how to install my sound system from the Eclipse into the RX-8. I used to make it there all the time when I was in college. But now I make my way to south county occassionaly and into St. Louis for some drinkin at the bars.

I'm not too far from you. Live down in Shiloh maybe 15 minutes away. Use to play hockey all the time up at Glidden Park in Collinsville. Hopefully I'll see you around sometime. My RX8 is yellow ext, black int. Getting some custom sound system work done to it this coming weekend. Subs, amp, tv/dvd player and screen along with a few other things. Hopefully turns out as well as I'm imaging in it. Wouldn't mind some opinions from other members of the forum once it's done.

The Rotary Revolution event has been working with Ryan Scott (Boosted 7) to try and figure out who is actually in the Mid-America Rotary Club for St Louis so we can extend our club discounts to all of you.

Saw a red rx8 on willott and spencer the other day-tint and clear corners....anyone on here. Really couldn't see inside tried to wave but saw you to late. I was in a stock rx8 grey.

I saw a silver 8 w/ IL Route 66 plates in front of me downtown today... I also see one parking in the garage by where I work (next to Busch Stadium).

Nice to see the STL 8s are out. We just had a meet down here in sunny Florida on Sunday. Maybe 20 cars or so, a dozen or so FDs. I'll be back up this weekend. Can't wait 'til it warms up and we can set something up. Anyway, there are a bunch of pics here:

I bought my Yellow one out in Ellisville, but I only make it to St. Louis on weekends periodically.

I live in DeSoto and drive to Villa Ridge each day on 40 miles of twisting 2 lane highway. The 8 was the perfect car for this commute.

I've got about 4k on it so far.

I don't think I've seen a single 8 on the road since I've been driving mine, but I'm mostly away from the city.

Sunday is when the autox's are, but I'm up for any Sunday that I'm not racing. If we're to get any dealer sponsorship, I agree it needs to be on a Saturday.

Off topic, but did anyone else notice the add for Bommarito listed the sale price for an auto 8 at 22k in the suburban journals today? It seems like a good time to buy.

I've seen quite a few lately on my side of town. I saw a blue @ Chevy's in O'Fallon the other night (it was very dirty btw ;) ) and another one on seven hills road. I don't normally see blue's on the road, so it was odd to see so many of them in a short period of time.

Just got my 8 a month ago. Nordic Green with appearance package and spoiler. Live in Fenton and take 270 to 70 east every morning around 6:30. Getting the windows tinted today :D and will soon have a Marine Corps sticker on it. Just don't know how big of one to get :confused: Honk if you see me,

my advice would have the dealer install it so that if they screw up, it'll be covered on ur warranty. :)

u should post some pics of ur car with all the mods, would love to see em.

we need a get together. I just got back from texas and I don't know anyone else in my area with an 8.
We should get together this weekend or sometime soon.

I'd love to see that REVi intake. As soon as the ram-air unit comes out, I'm going to get both. Which flywheel are you planning on getting (RB, Mazdaspeed, etc.)? Are you planning on autox'ing it? With all that stuff, you definitely should!!! You can still stay in BS w/ your mods.

BTW I pass a yellow rx8 almost everyday he is in the fast lane on east bound 70 near St. Charles Rock Rd exit. I saw it the other day and it has a thick black stripe down the middle now- Anyone here?

I'll save judgement for the 80's bumble-bee look till I see it in person. It has me scared though :)

Well BOOSTD, I did give it some decency of adding a charcoal double pin stripe between the black and the yellow. That alone helps to pull your mind from thinking it's a giant bumble bee. So far it has been all positive reviews. We'll have to make sure to cross paths so I can get your review.

The picture I have in my mind is making my stomach turn ... hope it's better in person :) And I hope you don't mind me being honest. Looks are a very personal thing.

I don't have an RX-8, but I sure wish I did! I have seen a few RX-8's out in the Lake St. Louis area and O'Fallen. I remeber one time before going to school, I saw a red RX-8 and a red 3rd gen. RX-7 at the QT on Byran Road (OFallen). Man was that amazing to see! I have seen a few 8's but still not enough to make it a common car.

If you happen to go by the Mayfest in O'fallon, IL this past weekend for the car show, you probably would have seen my car. I entered it in the show and took 2nd place. Not too shabby I'd say. Paint job can't be too bad I would think.

I'll also be doing the SCCA autocross at UMB Bank Pavilion on the 14th. This'll be my first race in the 8 and my first race in 4 years. It ought to be a good time, but I'm keeping the street tires on it for the remainder of the season, so I won't be too competitive. There are a couple other 8s that show up, according to the previous results from the season.

I'll raise my hand on having a Winning Blue one here in St. Peters Anyone seen me before? I mostly drive on Mexico Rd, in O'Fallon MO, and St Peters MO

New Galaxy Grey Shinka owner. I spend part of the time in Southeastern NM and the rest back here in the St.Louis area. I live in Warrenton, and mostly just frequent areas in West county, St. Charles, St. Peters, and Ofallon. Lots of previous performances cars (R32 golf, Evo VIII, MCoupe, M3, S4(x2), modded WRX and Forester, etc....), and currently still have a GMC Syclone in my collection. I wrench all my own cars and mod everything I own.

Only money spent on the car to date (last three weeks)has been a set of winter rims and snows. I just got back into town this afternoon and enjoyed cutting through some wooded twisty roads on the way from Washington to Warrenton. A little cool temp-wise for the summer treads I am getting ready to change-out, but it still handles great!! Man I miss these twisty roads, and living in Warrenton I am used to having access to a multitude of options for fun driving. NM really sucks unless you head to the mountains and then the altitude impacts performance.

Regardless, the RX8 is a blast and right there at the top of fun cars to drive in my book. Perhaps I will get a chance to meet some of you guys sometime in the future.

My 8 is still sitting somewhere in St. Charles County being repaired. UGH!!!!

Reminds me of the days when I went 3 1/2 weeks without my 8 after being rear ended. I feel you.

The sad thing about all this is that the damage is minor. It's just that between the dealer/auto body place taking their sweet time and the insurance company having their head up their ass it's taking forever (giving an estimate for the wrong side of the car). It'll be a month Friday.
